Brendan for me definitely needs a mention.. Too many to cut and paste but more often than not he has me giggling at my desk..
  3. Hi Jam-Log for all the rainbow flag fliers that there are in ED the Rainbow drinks thread I put up in the What's on section didnt get any legs so I called it off.. Why dont you come along to the next forum drinks on the 1st and meet some peeps that way.. Oh and im a girl/lady ;-)
  4. I can totally see what he is trying to do, he is trying to run the shop with the help of the community particularly in the financial sense and on the surface I dont think its a bad thing.. I think if it worked it could be a really good thing so long as everyone felt involved and a sense of ownership (and I dont mean in terms of shares in the business).. I think what is missing here though is the shop needs to be generally something that impacts each person in the community and that we couldnt do without and probably a lot more people would put down their cash (or not I guess).. I put my name down to help but didnt hear back, went down on the weekend to take a look and unfortunately it was closed.. It seems most people think its a great little store (when its opened) and are happy to help man the store but not necessarily to bear the financial cost to keep it open.

This reminds me of a when I went to a pub in Bethnal green not long after arriving and it had a sign on the door 'no travellers allowed' and I thought it was directed at people like me i.e. foreigners not from the UK so we went in and just kept to ourselves in the corner trying to act all 'local' thinking they wouldnt serve me if they knew I was australian.. :-$

  9. I must also add that I guess I am a little worried that we would be the only gays in the village aswell.. I have images of sleepy little villages where everyone knows everyone and it would take us possibly years to be accepted.. We once went to Westbury (near Stonehenge somewhere) as friends own a farm down there and we went to a house party there and ended up leaving as the 'locals' didnt want to speak with us even upon introduction so our friends and I left.. Anyhoo its just another reason I keep pumping in to Mrs Strawbs to keep us very firmly here! We did have the discussion though as to whether when we were 60 - 70 if we would feel too intimidated to live in London from a safety perspective.. Her Nan is currently still scooting around Bermondsey at the ripe old age of 73 so I figure we can do it too!
  10. I moved to the bright shining lights of London 3 years ago and haven?t looked back since, from the moment I arrived in this country and I knew I would never live in my homeland of Australia again (well at least not long term i.e. I had to go back for a short while last year due to Father's ill health).. Obviously over time I have established good and solid friendships with peeps who I love dearly.. Almost all of those people are either moving out of London or planning to in the future i.e. in the next 5 or 10 years. I have noticed many Londoners do this - is this migration out of London inevitable? Do you have a plan to do that? I have said to Mrs Strawbs that if we moved out of London that the country may lose its appeal to me.. Thankfully she is Bermondsey born and bred so quite happy to be a city girl for the foreseeable future but I can see the glint of wide open spaces in her eye..
  11. I wish someone would steal my spare tyre!! ;-) I saw a dude on my street stealing petrol from a car the other day, I was shocked as I havent seen that for the longest time.. As for the word Gippo I use it, I certainly dont say it to anyone directly but I sometimes use it to describe people and its not purely meant to describe Gipsys as I always thought Gipsys were called something else.
  12. It seems to me that you are assuming and expecting everyone that you asked will actually sponsor you, I guess in a nutshell its their choice if they decide to sponsor you or not and you have no right to then get uppity about it if they dont.. It could have been for many reasons which are all private to the individual.. Do you really want people to sponsor only because they are worried how you will react when you dont see their name with an amount next to it!!?? What a hollow sponsorship drive that would be. I think you have done a great thing for charity, dont spoil it by getting all hectic afterwards..
  13. I just remembered 'Alf' you know the show with the brown alien guy in it..? Alf
  14. I am in Tyrell which is right near 'the gardens', your local pub is the clockhouse which is a bit of an old mans pub if you ask me but they seem to do a great little bbq and have a nice outside area.. The local chinese and Indian takeaways right opposite the clockhouse are the nuts! Great tasting food..
  15. oooh good thread.. I loved care bears, smurfs, fraggle rock (big favourite), degrassi junior high, scooby doo, I think it was called Teddy Ruxpin (but I think that was more my sister), my brother used to love Thunderbirds or cats (you know the puppet dudes) so I had to watch that alot and definitely He man and Shera.. As for movies - the dark crystal, Emmet Otters Jugband christmas, Annie, Wizard of Oz and the little mermaid...
  16. Indi - you can take mine but Im not going to be there til probably Gowlett o'clock so if that suits you can have it otherwise maybe grab someone who will be there from the start..
  17. desoizal Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > hi Strawbs, what do you need a nutritionist, > dietician for? Hey there TBH I didnt really want to post in here because it all got a little hectic.. I wanted a dietician / nutritionist (admittedly I dont really know the difference) for weight management. I have a condition called exercise stimulated anaphylaxis which in a nutshell I have the same anaphylactic reaction to exercise that people do to nuts so it makes it quite difficult. I can do some i.e. cycle indoors on an exercise bike but it cant be too hard core blah blah blah.. I am a vegetarian (almost vegan so no cheese, egg, chocolate) which has been a major lifestyle change for the last 8 months and it hasnt made a scrap of difference... The Docs have checked my thyroid etc and its fine so I was just asking so that someone could take a look at my food journal that I have kept for the last week and for them to make any suggestions etc etc.. thanks to everyone who responded but any chance I can have my thread back? Regardless of people's opinions on each of the difference professions I just wanted to know if anyone had a rec of someone I could go and see..

Brendan I really do fear this to be true!! ;-) I know it will be one of those things that will niggle at me until I hand over the cold hard cash so I think youre right ignorance is richer bliss.. *makes mental note to not track thread*
  20. We definitely wont make it for 1.30.. @H6_6 - we shall call you on our way back to see which watering hole you are in and we will meet you there!

what exactly is an HD box and is it worth getting one? Ive seen them advertised for around ?200 but without knowing exactly what they do and if its worth getting one Im not sure if its a good investment.. Does anyone have one they can tell me about? thanks
  22. Jaws and I are definitely coming along! Got some stuff we need to do in the morning so will probably meet up with you guys somewhere along the line start time depending.. Woop woop cant wait!
  23. Only in Australia.... Kangaroo line up!
  24. I agree dont use an agent if you can get away with it, in my view all of the 'admin' charges they charge are a complete and utter rip off... We have privately rented our last two places and it really is so much better.. Oh and we got our flat off the forum so its definitely worth taking a look, could save yourself some serious coin..
