stroller ideas for "big" toddler
Strawbs replied to midivydale's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Convex I went for the baby jogger city select in the end as was really attracted to the idea of using it in single mode on the days my eldest will be at nursery. I do fear I have a bun fight on my hands getting him away from the Maclaren though! X -
stroller ideas for "big" toddler

Bb - I'm sure mine is the xt techno but I can check. Toby still naps in it if we are out and about and I have even had him fall asleep in it in front of the tv. They are nowhere near as light as a bugaboo but great and robust for a toddler and have a good recline. We have just bought a separate double but won't be getting rid of the Maclaren. -

Definitely a maclaren. We had a bugaboo which my son hated so got the maclaren as a 'back up' and honestly he wont get out of it, he watches tv in it!! He is, as you know, over 2 now x -
Hey Mivi, we made one for mini strawbs on his first bday which was dairy and soya free - shall i get Nic to send you the recipe? (if we can still find it that is). x

Wanted! Night nurse who can help with bottle feeds
Strawbs replied to Mrs Nicklin's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Oh this is amazing news, brilliant to read. X -
I was thinking maybe 6 weeks ago that my son might have needed to see someone as whilst he had some words they were few and far in between. Then over the last two weeks he has started saying a lot more, I'd say 10 times what he used to say but I do notice most of the words he doesn't articulate properly for example a fox is fo / drink is gink / please is peas / thanks is sanks and I can tell when he says open this please or broken but an outsider wouldn't. At 27m should I be getting this looked at or given he has started talking a lot more in just two weeks leave it longer to see? He also pronounces bath and mouth (again two new words in the last week) with an f at the end instead of th and i am very much not wanting him to fall in to the habit of not pronouncing his ths thanks! X

Ps mivy - the book 'toddler taming' is a good read to get an insight in to behaviour x

Biggie I shall wait for that update, please have me be the first person you to hehe!! Mivydale - mini strawbs was regularly tantruming at 14m and proper throwing himself around and bashing his head on the floor type tantrums so yes it can start early! Now at 27m he still tantrums but after working with him for months and months now just throws himself to the floor and lies still which is so much easier. X

Wanted! Night nurse who can help with bottle feeds
Strawbs replied to Mrs Nicklin's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ps a friend of mine had this exact problem and found the nuk bottle was the only one that worked. Also can your partner try to do it as you still probably smell of milk so baby may take it easier from someone without any milk. X -
Wanted! Night nurse who can help with bottle feeds
Strawbs replied to Mrs Nicklin's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Have you tried all different kinds of bottles? When I was transitioning my son from breast to bottle we had to try a few - Madela (he did like these), Avent anti colic (hated these) and then we settled on doctor brown which are excellent. Sometimes I think the teat can make a big difference. I know it is hard especially with not sleeping (my son has only just started selling through at 2) but persistence is key. If you are worried though she isn't getting enough can you call your health visitor and get them to pop around to see if they can help or know the details of someone who can? X -
Well sainsburys cardboard recycle centre is full but I had a glimmer of false hope when I saw the recycling truck come down my street this morning, I took out all my boxes but actually they just emptied the block of flats recycling directly opposite me and then drove away!! Now I am perplexed. Am going to give the council a ring on Monday and see when it is scheduled for.

I am glad you posted this as we are the same, we were full before Xmas. I am going to pop up to sainburys tomorrow and use their recycling centre but I am hoping our bins will be emptied pronto!

Toddler coughs - is medicine worthwhile? Vaporiser?
Strawbs replied to pilsbury's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I swear by the vicks steam vaporiser for coughs and then the boots electric vaporiser for colds, honestly couldnt live without them! the vicks steam vaporiser can make things damp so the following day I just run the dehumidifier and suck the moisture back out. Oh and I know it sounds strange but vicks on the feet with socks on seems to help too! -
Need Thomas the tank wrapping paper ASAP - anyone know?
Strawbs replied to colababe's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I got some in October from Clinton cards. I still have half a roll left if you are desperate otherwise I'd check clinton cards as they were doing Thomas, Peppa etc. x -
I havent heard that boys are lazy but am often reminded that girls are ahead of boys. My son is very active and was early to crawl and walk (ok run from sun up to sun down) but he is slow on his talking, honestly I am just going with it as I am sure he will pick it up soon..

we had the same thought for our 2 year old but I went with the Robo fish in the end just to see how many times it ends up on the floor! got is off amazon for ?24 and santa shall be delivering it this year. x

Nanny versus nursery - what are your thoughts???
Strawbs replied to 2nd time mummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My son has been in a nursery since he was 1 and has thrived. I really do think it is down to the individual child though and you need to do what is right for their personality. My son is very active and much to my horror I felt he was quite bored with me by the end of my mat leave so with all the activities they do during the day he was in heaven when he went to nursery. I would say you need to find the right childcare whichever option you go for, I was lucky that I found a great nursery that really do love my son to pieces and have been excellent with dealing with his tantrums / food allergies etc. He had a fabulous keyworker for 12-20m who gave him lots of cuddles etc and really doted on him, he now has a different keyworker who is just as excellent but a male and they do loads of running around and activities together so different butn equally great. The power of peers I also thing is very strong like shaunag said so eating / going to the loo / development can be assisted by the power of peers. The first part when putting a child in to nursery can be difficult to juggle as they do pick up all types of bugs and we dont have any help in terms of family so it can be a juggle but he now at 2 is very rarely off nursery. Good luck in what you decide. x -

Toddlers Haircut - ED recommendations?
Strawbs replied to frankie77's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Carly will come to your house and do it for ?7 or little clippers x -
Vez - there are loads on amazon. When my son was born we got the slumber bears and I thought they were useless and we went through three that broke randomly but other people said they were great. You can get a white noise cd but I dont own a cd player any more now I have phones / itunes etc. It is the equivalent I guess to having a fan going in the background all the time which muffles loud noises a bit. x
-
My son who is now 2 was a dreadfully light sleeper, any noise at all woke him up until about a month ago and now he sleeps much more soundly. When on mat leave I would rage about the amount of people coming to the door and waking him up. Am due to have another in March and was wondering would a white noise machine encourage or discourage them from being a light sleeper do you think? x

PlayPen - did you use it? was it worth it?
Strawbs replied to mrcee's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We had one and it was huge but we used it for a period and it was really useful, that period can be quite short though so next time I will probably get a smaller one. Easy enough to sell on here on e finished with, I would just advise getting a used one rather than an expensive new one. X -
