London attractions - heads up to parents
Strawbs replied to Crokes's topic in The Family Room Discussion
This is honestly beyond belief, what are they thinking not calling the police and then letting them go?! This is my worst nightmare as a mother that my child could be taken. Your BIL must be still so shaken up by this and also be mystified at the behaviour of the security staff. I am glad he found his son, thank god he did. X -
Lets hear it for Gestational Diabetes....!
Strawbs replied to buggie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks Mivy you are so kind! This on top of the OH having emergency back surgery a month back and still not able to help with mini Strawbs has not allowed for the restful end of pregnancy I was hoping for! I am just grateful the GD is so late as if they induce me I have less than 3 weeks to go so won't be injecting and feeling horrid for too long. Let me know if you fancy a coffee one day (no cake hehe) as I am off on mat leave now x -

Lets hear it for Gestational Diabetes....!
Strawbs replied to buggie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Am resurrecting this thread as it seems my GD has finally hit with this pregnancy, at 35+5 I thought I'd missed it and was so looking forward to going in to labour naturally with this pregnancy as was insulin dependent with my last so induced at 38+3 but my readings have been quite high since yesterday so the diabetic clinic has advised if no change on the weekend then I will be put on insulin on Monday. Totally bummed. I will be shopping off the list above! X -
Facebook group for local breastfeeding caf?s / milk spots ?
Strawbs replied to Strawbs's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you to everyone for your responses. I caught up with my health visitor yesterday whilst getting the two year check and she told me about the albrighton centre and I am liking the sound of the Peckham cafe. I am now wondering if I do actually need someone to come to my home on top of those two places but I think I will do a quick ring around. Thanks again! X -
Facebook group for local breastfeeding caf?s / milk spots ?
Strawbs replied to Strawbs's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks Gina that is really good advice, would you mind explaining how a cafe works? Do I just turn up and try to feed and one of the experts will come and help me or do you turn up and get to see someone one on one? Thank you! X -
Facebook group for local breastfeeding caf?s / milk spots ?
Strawbs replied to Strawbs's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks both. Cornelia - more just an up to date list of where local things are happening. I am due in 4 weeks with my second and breastfeeding didn't go easily nor well last time so I am looking in to private lactation consultants who can come to my house once the baby is born but also local groups I can visit to get some support when needed. Thanks x -
Hi Julie, I am picking one up tomorrow but thank you for thinking of me! X

I kept the below from when my son had it : > >> 1. Vira soothe cream. It's amazing! It's a clear gel, soaks in mega fast and it lasts a few hours (3 and counting so far) >> 2. Eurax cream. Last 3 hours. >> 3. Callamine. Haven't seen much use out of this other than you can reapply as often as you like and he seems to like it being applied. >> 4. Nurofen for the temp. >> 5. Warm baths with half a container of bi carb soda (he loves these, hysterically crying out of bath, as soon as he hits the water he is happily playing. >> 6. Bi carb soda and a little water to form a paste and apply liberally. This will help dry up the blisters. As soon as blisters have dried up the itchiness reduces dramatically. >> 7. Heating on and baby just in a nappy during the day. >> 8. 100% cotton pjs >> 9. Plenty of fluids even if it's a bottle as Toby is properly off his food as he has them in his mouth. >> 10. No soap or shampoo if in their hair. >> >> Hope that helps x Sent from my iPhone

Recommended nurseries in East Dulwich?
Strawbs replied to NigelG's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Unfortunately the waiting lists are long in ED generally. My son attends 'my favourite nursery' and is very happy there. Good luck! -
Rugby Classes for little boy - advice needed
Strawbs replied to liz.e.jones's topic in The Family Room Discussion
we tried mini strawbs with try time on the weekend (he is 27m) and I felt it was too old for him so am going to try him again in the summer. Mini strawbs hasnt quite grasped listening and following directions as yet that well so i ended up running all over the park with him at 34w pregnant in the rain and mud (hadnt counted on that!) so we ended up going an playing in the puddles instead which he was just as happy with. I am going to put him in to little kickers indoor football until I feel he is a bit more ready for the rugby which I am guessing will be more like 3. -
Very suspicious man at my front door...
Strawbs replied to Toddinator's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I would say definitely yes! -
Shaunag - that sounds horrendous!! You poor thing. Glad you have a handle on it but two babies with dietary issues is tough going, I am due in 6 weeks and praying this one doesn't have allergies / reflux. Jenny - we stopped it when mini Strawbs was put on Neocate x

Thanks everyone ! I am sold! Pickle - great idea will do. I did message someone a week or so back but didn't hear back so I think ill do as you say and post my own ad. Mivy - good thinking re another refluxer - I am hoping not but best to be prepared! X

Hi. Just a quick one, before I part with my hard earned cash on an expensive bouncy chair are they worth the price tag? I have found one on sale for ?80 but that's still a fair whack of cash when I could get a regular one for half that. Calling on the wisdom of folks who may have bought one of these already. Thanks! X

supper snack advice please! I need more sleep!!!
Strawbs replied to SE22mum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Could you have a snack at 5 instead and then push dinner to say 7 or 7.30? My 2 year old is a late dinner eater for some reason so I give him a little snack at 6 when he gets home from nursery and then he eats his dinner about 7.30. I have tried dinner before this a thousand times and he just leaves it to get stone cold til about 7.45 and digs in so I have flexed to him now. Egg and soldiers (protein in the egg will help fill her up) the humus and pita is a good one with some ham also so carb and protein All of EmilyPie's suggestions are good! x -
Yes mini strawbs used to scream from 5 - 8 daily and the colief really did help. I remember it well and I feel for you as you feel entirely helpless to help them. Is he too young for gripe water? I always found that helped with really deep wind with mini strawbs. x

I tried the aptamil and cow and gate (meant to be kinder on them apparently but dont quote me on that) but we ended up on Neocate prescribed by the GP for a dairy intolerance which he grew out of at 2. Dr Brown bottles helped a lot also. x

I just put it in too and it worked fine x

Chicken pox vaccine: have you done it recently?
Strawbs replied to Convex's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I enquired about it actually with the immunisation nurse at my GP and she said the same as devsdev said, that it would require a booster and as the country doesnt vaccinate as a rule (unlike Australia where I am from) that the child then wont be protected later on in life as there is no 'herd immunity' so I would imagine it would a case of getting regular boosters and hoping it isnt contracted in between. Other than that sorry i have no idea, I think you can google private places in town somewhere that will do it for you. x -
best type of paint use in painting a toddler's bedroom
Strawbs replied to Strawbs's topic in The Family Room Discussion
thanks everyone this is a great help! I will pop down to colour me happy and see what he can set me up with. x -
Hi, I am wanting to get my son's bedroom repainted but am mindful of fumes etc with him being only little and me being heavily pregnant. Is it realistic to have a painter paint the room in the morning with the windows / doors being open til say 8pm that night (bedtime) and it be ok for my son to sleep in that room that night? It is just a lick of paint not a big job so I would imagine he could do it in a morning. He wont sleep anywhere except his cot which I would have to dismantle to remove from the bedroom so am trying to avoid that. Also do I go for something like a water based paint? i.e. no toxic fumes etc. Any advice would be great. thanks Jules x

Moving abroad - where would you go?
Strawbs replied to KattyKit's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I am Australian and from Sydney so can vouch personally for that city. It is a fantastic place to raise children, it is expensive though but this really does depend on your earning capacity, if you can earn 'well' then it is totally fine as not outrageously expesive. We are just about to have number 2 and are in discussions in going back for a few years. You get a standard 20 days holiday a year. Personally I would love to live in the US but my OH isnt keen unfortunately. I wanted to live in NY but with kids I think this is a bit difficult now. In the US i believe you only get 2 weeks holiday but then about 10 'personal days' which I think work the same as holiday but dont quote me on that. Apparently you only get 6w maternity leave as well! Someone from nyc told me this the other night and I was shocked. good luck! x -
