  1. watching "cilit bang" adverts all day...
  2. I do have shelves stuck with books and I love them. I don't see the point of carrying 160 books with you (even if you traveling the world). And there is nothing better to hold a book in your hands. But there are books and books. I would like to see the e-book used for school/university or for work as it will save people carrying all these heavy books. Even for downloading the newspapers every morning before you go to work (although you loose the pleasure of turning those pages). And lets not forget how much paper will be saved. Also studies showed that older people welcomed the introduction of the e-book as they will be able to increase the font size. So I am not ready to dismiss the e-book yet because I think it has potential. I think they advertise it wrongly. It should be aimed for organizations and educational institutions and not for the everyday reader.
  3. Just Google "pasta poetry" :))

  6. Strawbs next time I am going on holiday you are packing my suitcase. It seems you have a system... Yes I think he is a typical fella and its Friday afternoon and I want to go hooome
  7. A colleague of mine puts his shoes with no bag on top of his shirts when he packs his suitcase. I think that is disgusting and unhygienic. He claims is not alone on this...(td)
  8. A & B want to go to Brighton for the weekend A is in a car who weighs 100 stones, travels with 100 miles per hour under 100 F temperature. B is in a car who weighs 635 Kg, travels with 160 Km per hour under 38 C temperature. Which one has better car?? :))
  9. Apparently, there are 3 main systems of measurement : Metric, Imperial system of measurement and the USA system of measurement. The Imperial is different from the USA (For example, the USA pint has 16 ounces whereas the Imperial pint has 20 ounces)....what a mess!!:-S Advantages of Metric System Simplicity. The Metric system has only 7 basic measures, plus a substantial number of measures using various combinations of these base measures. The imperial system and the USA system have over 300 different measures, of which many are ambiguous. For example, there are eight different definitions of ton (including the 'short ton' and the 'long ton'), all of which differ in weight. There are also eight different definitions of barrel, five different definitions of bushel, three different definitions of mile (international, nautical, and US Survey). The USA gallon is smaller than the Imperial gallon, and all measures which are multiples or subdivisions of the gallon (e.g. pint, quart) likewise are inconsistent between the USA and the UK. Not only are the USA and UK pints different in size, but there are also differences between 'dry pints' and 'liquid pints'. Ease of calculation. All the units in the metric system are multiplied by 10 (to make larger units) or divided by 10 (to make smaller units). For example a kilometer is 1000 meters (10 * 10 * 10). It's nearest equivalent is a mile which is 5280 feet (8 * 10 * 22 * 3; based on the calculation that a mile is 8 furlongs, 10 chains to a furlong, 22 yards to a chain, 3 feet to a yard). Although complex calculations can be done using the Imperial or USA system, almost all calculations can be done easier and faster in the metric system. International Standard. With the exception of the USA, all major countries have converted to the metric system (although in some countries, such as the UK, the conversion to metric is not yet complete). Consequently, for any international communication (trade, science, etc.) the metric system is the most widely used and accepted.
  10. he he...its not a competition
  11. Can anyone please clarify which one is the official system that is used today? Metric or Imperial? Temperature: Celsius or Fahrenheit? Road signs: Do they display miles or kilometers? Height: Meters, centimeters or feet, inches? Weight: Stones, pounds or kilograms? Some people are using metric, some imperial and some (like me) both What do they teach at schools these days? None system is wrong or right (both give the same result). Just curious....
  12. Cilit Bang and the dirt is gone.....I just want to pull my eyelashes out!
  13. It is a difficult decision to make but in my opinion your boys should avoid any violence. This boy sounds like a bully (intimidation and "minor" violence) but there is a thin line where a bully turns "really" violent. If he is confronted directly (i.e. violently) he will react like this (and you don't know who will support him - it is getting crazy with all these gangs). Your boys should be able to stand up against intimidation and turn into violence only as a last resort and only to defend themselves. Maybe next time this guy intimidates them they should ask him why he is doing that. I know it sounds silly but when someone is facing their behavior back sometimes "disarms" them. Then again (if the problem continues) they can ignore, avoid (him and common areas) and last fight back. By fighting I mean first inform the parents, then the school (the two "authorities") and last fight for themselves (they are two at the end of the day). In my opinion, people should be able to stand up for themselves no matter what but not violently (again as I said as a last resort). What it matters is to go through their exams so you did well of taking them away. Time plays an important role as the bully needs "victims" to go by and if your boys are out of the picture he will focus somewhere else.
  14. Yes but I don't think he has any chance. He is not Eurovision material
  15. "The public gets what the public wants" as Jam said long time ago. I want Greece, Sweden or Ukraine...For those who've said don't watch it before the final: some of the best performances are in the semi finals (e.g. Dustin the turkey, the pirates, those who sang about vegetables etc). You are missing out
  16. Who do you support now Dustin the turkey is out? The divas (Sweden and Ukraine) or....
  17. It will be nice to compare prices from West End places (bars, restaurants etc) just to see how much they charge a small bottle of water. I still think is very expensive for a cinema
  18. I went last night to see a film at Cineworld Shaftesbury Avenue and I paid ?2 for a small bottle of water. How ridiculous is that (the ticket was ?10, the pop corn ?4.30 so I ended up paying ?16.30 to see a movie)
  19. At the end of the day she will have to play according to the rules. She is dealing with a stingy landlord who argues that because the bed was not part of the inventory will not buy a new one. What she needs to do is to write an email (for proof) and get a reply back saying that the bed is unsuitable and will get rid of it. The bed officially doesn't exist (as it doesn't belong to anyone) so she can do whatever she likes with it. I know it will be a hassle for a tenant to buy a bed and then have to think about what will do with it when she moves out (which I think with a landlord like this will be soon) but it is the only solution I can think of. There are several free beds in this Forum
