We have engineered wood with underfloor heating. It is so lovely walking on a warm floor :). I love the wood too. Why don't you think it is practical? Ours is oak, but one thing that did surprise me is that our pale oak has developed an orange tinge in the sunlight. I don't know if you can find out, but it might be worth finding out what will happen when the sun hits your wood (engineered or otherwise).

What do you want to know? If you are looking to move to Beckenham, and have or are planning to have children, then you'd be best looking at schools, and then looking at roads after you have worked out schools. The Drive, The Crescent and Church Avenue are not traditionally in the catchment of any 'good' school. Durban road is normally in Balgowan's catchment. Although, they have a bulge class this year so it might be worth making sure you are not at the far end in case the bulge class shrinks the catchment. Having said that, there is also the new Harris free school, which might mean the Balgowan catchment post bulge isn't stupidly small. If you aren't interested in schools, then it'll depend on what style houses you like, how close you want to be to the train station etc.

I'm really hoping that any current parents at Judith Kerr can answer a load of questions I have about a new bilingual school. Basically, we are considering sending our monolingual daughter to the Bromley Bilingual School opening in September. She would be entering year 1. So, I was really hoping that any current parents at Judith Kerr could tell me how they have found it. Are you happy with it? What are the positives and negatives? One of my concerns is that my monolingual daughter will very much be in the minority, so if anyone can tell me how they integrated monolingual children I'd be really interested to hear. Basically, I would massive appreciate anything you can tell me! Thanks!!

My daughter is there, she started in September 2011. I have to say, I'm really pleased with it. She loves going, and she is learning without noticing and doing really well. My daughter settled in really easily - it took her a term to find her voice a little, but she was only 2 and a half when she started so she was the youngest one in the room. The only thing I find a little frustrating is the lack of daily information about how she is doing. But that problem partly stems from the fact that it is our childminder who picks my daughter up. Consequently, I don't get to look at her work book to see what she has been doing, or to have informal chats with the teachers. However, I do get to attend termly parents evenings, and so do get to catch up then. And I get the piles of artwork she has been producing. I would strongly recommend it.
