Or maybe, it's actually got nothing to do with politics or Michael Gove and the school actually does require improvement!

My child used to attend Tiger Sharks but their current timetable is rather unwieldy and a tad inconvenient. Does anyone have any experience of Dulwich Dolphins? I've heard they can be a little strict and a little grumpy. My child would like after-school swimming to be an enjoyable experience, so I'm hoping this is not the case. Otherwise, can anyone recommend some nearby swim clubs that are not too "up themselves". My child is a very competent swimmer, but alas has no olympic ambitions, which frankly is just fine!

Year 5 and 6 parents- secondary schools
albert replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I love the spin on these results from kingsdale supporters. They're awful results and the value added is shocking. I hope the school turns it round. They have many many inspired and bright pupils and keen parents so hopefully it will. Equally, I hope the head's attempt to spin the results at future open days does not make the presentation any longer because that really would be interminable. The Harris schools, especially the girls school and the academy at Peckham have done brilliantly. Waverley was a failing girls school, which the local authority could not turn round. Under Harris leadership it has done amazingly well. As for other schools, such as charter, bacons college and st saviours; the results speak for themselves. Well done most southwark schools. -
Edinburgh. Stirling. Cardiff.

Can anyone recommend a Spanish villa/apartment?

Try rustical travel website. Mountains to north of Malaga. Or try vejer de la frontera. Fabulous place. -
Well said flywheel. Heber lighten up. The atmosphere is odd and my daughter now hates the place.

I have nearly been hit on numerous occasions on the crossing by the constitutional club. Once, i was even touched by a heavily breaking car who appeared not to see me. He then swore and sped off. The kids hate crossing the road which is for some reason a nightmare. Raise the zebra crossings or do something, and for the record, I use the number 37 bus too!

can you take micro scooters on the plan
albert replied to madmum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I was allowed to take scooter on plane from heathrow but it was confiscated in Paris en route to inter connecting flight. Moral of story, if you want to avoid tears and massive fight with airport staff, pack it. The regulations for scooters appear a tad confused. -
Is it standard to pay a childminder for her holidays?
albert replied to ladyruskin's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Fundamentally, it comes down to how mean you are and how much you value the person who looks after your children. If you don't look after them, well ........ -
Empty house on corner Elsie Rd/East Dulwich Grove
albert replied to TarahC's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Apparently the community council rejected this. Great for the neighbors and residents of Elsie Road. Good for the community council to let sense prevail. Err who do Southwark planning work for? The people of Southwark or developers? -
I too think the crossing will be a big improvement. Long overdue.

Southwark planning department have passed the plans and they are due to be discussed at the community council meeting tonight at 7oc, Herne Hill Baptist Church, Half Moon Lane. It appears the council had passed the plans before the consultation period had ended because it was due to go before the community council committee before some residents had even replied to "ammended plans". So much for the consultation process. It's odd that the report from the council states a petition only received 10 signatures, I know of a petition which had nearly 80 names on it. This development will be a blight to the area and make our parking nightmare worse. Lets hope the Community Council show more sense than the planning department. -
Charter School admissions change
albert replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Father Jack, My daughter is at Charter and it would be a route home. However, being flashed at once was enough for her. The police might think it safe. I would dispute that. -

Just to throw cat among the pigeons. I wont let my daughter walk along Wanley Road path on her own in daylight, or with anyone else at night. -

Yes but such a shame such a fine building might be knocked down. You would think the council might do something about it. Apparently a lot of local residents are up in arms over the proposal. -

Noquestion, Prendergast a much better school.

Depending on the number of flats, he would need planning permission for that.

The old Woolwich is soon to be another estate agent --- kfh apparently. -
The Gardens surgery is fantastic. All the doctors are excellent. The baby clinic is great, and when I last had a health visitor they were great too. Only problem is there may be a waiting list to get in.

I'll miss Threshers (the three for two deals were worth having for some bottles) and I'll especially miss the people who run it. They were friendly, helpful and nice to have around Lordship lane. Some of the snotty comments on this site remind me of what's wrong with living here and it seems what is increasingly wrong with this forum. Decent people, such as those in Threshers who find themselves moving on, can at least celebrate the fact they are being relieved of the company of such bores.

Think you might be right. G and F woman joining up with woman who runs Le Chandelier. Apparently they want to make it girly! Would rather have the Mag circa 1970 back.

Why don't you try getting in touch with Simply Childcare - they're a magazine based in Camberwell that put people in touch with each other - like nannies in the area, other parents who want a nanny-share, child-minders etc etc. I found my child-minder/nanny through them 6 and a half years ago and she is still with us. They're very helpful and offer an advice service as well. Just google them.
