  1. House in Oglander Road burgled last night as occupants were asleep. I think I'm going to do a few all-night vigils, in the absence of the local plod doing anything so pro-active. Although, to be fair, a few years ago they always came within 5 minutes of being called when we had a spate of crooks calling late at night with elaborate excuses as to why they needed money. One lovely man was found by the police, who turned up so fast they actually caught him, to be carrying a knife! I know I'm only saying this as it's now on my patch, but things are getting ridiculous. It does look like it's one highly 'professional' gang involved.
  2. Yes, had a lovely surprise at ED station yesterday when I saw the hanging baskets. Flowers look amazing. Who thought of that? Really thoughtful. Looks like a train station in some country village! Maybe the name sign could be changed to Adlestrop!
  3. Forgive me, but are you a trawling journalist?
  4. please ignore!

  6. I was taking a friend home in the car from ED to Streatham late one night a few years ago. As we were going down Gallery Road out of Dulwich Village I thought, as it was so dark, it would be a jolly jape to stop the car and turn off my lights to scare her (we'd been watching a ghost film earlier). It was summer, and the windows were down, and we'd just passed Belair. As I switched the engine off we suddenly heard the plaintive, lonely sound of a ship's foghorn - you know, like in those b&w films where a ship is heard calling out through the mist. It was very loud and deep. My friend, who's from a port - Barcelona - said: 'It's only a ship.' So I had to tell her: 'It can't be. We're too far from the Thames and they don't make that noise on the river anyway.' She didn't believe me. I quickly drove off and, needless to say, didn't return that way!
  7. Hi - I've been had by this one. It was near Old Street tube a few months ago. As he approached I began to do the 'avoid beggar shimmy', but was stopped in my tracks when he showed me the gaping wound. When I asked what he'd done, he said he'd just fallen off his bike and needed a taxi to get to hospital. I was really shocked as it's quite big and looks dreadful. I gave him a ?10 note as that's the only cash I had! Needless to say he didn't hail a cab there and then. Later I wondered if it was a scam, but came to the conclusion no one could be that desperate, and if they were then good luck to them. Opening the wound constantly, if that's what he does, can't be doing him any good either.
  8. Oh no! I live in Oglander, but I'm at work. Have police arrived yet?
  9. He was just a boor. It was a small, very unpleasant incident. Let go of it, or he's won. What if, like my sister, you'd just learnt you had breast cancer. Peace of mind is all about letting go of these petty irritations we all suffer from time to time. They're horrible, but in the scheme of things, they're nothing, are they, really? Yes, you were in the right, and he was in the wrong. So what? Do you know why? He has to live with himself, you don't. Find peace from that. And believe me, what comes around goes around. You don't have to do anything.
