Running out of options...Controlled Crying
rougepamplemousse replied to Ellie78's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My little one is 19 m now and I did the controlled crying when she was 3 months. I was really desperate and I did lots of research and there are two things you have to keep in mind: the baby has enough food during the day and that you don't use anything that the baby can associate with going to sleep. I give my daughter more food during the day - so more often - I never put her to sleep while breastfeeding or with a bottle, I used the E.A.S.Y formula - eat, activity, sleep, you time. I must admit it took about 3 weeks and writing down times, quantities etc, a bit of a military operation... but it paid off. At 4 months we went of holiday and she was sleeping from 7.30 pm to 7.30 am with only a dream feed at 11pm She now sleeps for 12h every night and only wakes up when she has a cold/coughing etc I don't often give advice about this as I know people have different views about the whole controlled crying thing but it worked for me whatever you choose, have a clear plan and stick to it, it is not easy and you have to be very strong. Good luck! -

RachC, I agree with Simonethebeaver in terms of hospitals. I had my first at Kings and chose it because I needed a c section. I was however disappointed with the antenatal care and the level of care in the hospital was terrible, it was extremely busy and the midwives were and looked extremely tired and unfortunately not doing their job properly. My daughter had jaundice and the midwife missed doing a test to detect that. Therefore 2-3 days after arriving home I had to go to emergency with her. I chose Lewisham this time and I was impressed with how well I was looked after. Lots of people on this forum have all sorts of different stories so you might end up being more confused after reading everything. What I would say is if you think it will be a straightforward natural birth the midwifes at Lewisham are better and the birth centre is great.

Asthma diagnosis in young babies?
rougepamplemousse replied to midivydale's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My daughter had her first episode when she was one and we were on holiday in France... we were in hospital for 3 days and they have taken it very seriously. When we got back nobody, including GP, A&E in both lewisham and kings have taken it seriously. What I have done is replaced cow's milk with alternatives - dairy produces too much mucus which is what I noticed she had too much of - and I bought a room humidifier. She is 18 months now and we finally got some blood tests etc booked so we'll take it from there :) -

Any stay at home mums around?
rougepamplemousse replied to mcgowankim's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I am busy tomorrow as well :( Wednesday I usually go to The Forester in Forest Hill - just behind the train station - for a freelance/working from home mums meet up. A few work shifts and some are stay at home mums so I guess it is open to anyone :) The place is very spacious, they have nice food if anyone wants lunch and there is enough place for kids to crawl/run around. They open at 11. If not happy t meet Thu if anyone is free. -

more breast feeding advice
rougepamplemousse replied to kamath's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I would recommand Eliot Bank breast feeding cafe. Sue there is amazing and so are all the other midwives. It is on Wed from 1 to 3 and the group was probably what kept me sane for the first 4 months with the baby! Plus I made some great friends! You can also weight your baby there! -
Any mums are looking for second hand clothes? I have about 4 bundles - I know, I went completely over board with the shopping!!! - my little one had so many that most of them she only wore once. She was born beginning of May so suitable for babies born April-June. PM me for pictures and details :) Oh, congratulations on the new arrivals! I hope they will bring you as much joy and my little one does to me! :) x
