  1. No one would argue that ED exists in a vacuum, but at the same time one has to consider the fact that ED is filled with desirable housing stock and green spaces that lie just a few miles from the centre of a major global capital. Good times will come and go, businesses will thrive or fail, but fundamentally ED has a huge amount going for it. 2. "The person would have to be Very ill to produce pee that colour." Urine changes to a dark colour in sunlight.

Why do you insist on it being cooking oil? It looks nothing like cooking oil to me. Plus the idea of someone going to the trouble of cooling, filtering and bottling used oil into drinks bottles so that they could then place it on the street is a bit of a stretch. Cabbies and truckers leaving urine in drink bottles is a known practice, on the other hand.
  4. Nice pub. Much friendlier vibe now that the sport has been toned down. Have popped in for a quick drink after work a couple of times and will continue to do so.

Err, doesn't it say 10:30 for the outside area? Sounds fair to me.
  6. I'm not sure if I have got this right, but isn't the ultimate aim to increase through traffic from London bridge to North London? That would likely benefit more people, I guess. It would certainly take alot of pressure off the Northern Line. I've always been amazed at how poor the service from London Bridge to Farringdon is, for example. It should be linked up like Charing X - every 5 mins or so.

In fact, the amount of heat leaking out of a pub building in winter will utterly dwarf the output of a few patio heaters.

"There's a distinct lack of sky sports around the area now" That's surely not an accident. It tends to attract groups of older blokes. These pubs want trendy young couples and families.

  10. Agree with those who argue that it would be better to push for the Camberwell extension to the Bakerloo Line that has been talked about for the last 60 years. They even statrted work on it before the war.
  11. ComputedShorty: Lovely pic. Thanks!
  12. Does anyone hve any info about (or old pictures of) the converted Victorian shops on Crystal Palace road just further up the hill from what is now The Actress?
  13. The council should keep an eye out for some spiv attempting to demolish this and build a complex of tiny flats. It's a fine old building.
  14. "Please ignore this if it annoys you or offends in any way. But if you see the van don't go out until they leave. Simple" Nothing to do with being offended, but a vague warning from you asking folk not to go out if they see a white van isn't practical for anyone to act upon. People usually have to leave their houses at some point! If you have any proper info then please go to the police. Thanks.
  15. "A White Van Parked in our road containing 4 White Males is suspected of casing our houses for theft." Suspected by whom?
  16. I'm not sure why they are bothering with this again. It'll never, ever fly with the locals. Needles aside, the middle of a residential street isn't a particularly good place for a long-hours pharmacy.

Self defense classes can give a false sense of security, as under stress situations even experienced people will go to pieces trying to remember some sequence of movements. Fighting is, of course, chaotic so there is limited value in teaching responses to very specific scenarios. I do, however, agree that it is best to run, shout, gouge or scratch. Anyway, my thoughts are with the poor lady in question.
  18. The phantom bottle-pisser strikes again! More bottles left in a row on the corner of CP Road and Crawthew Grove this morning.....
  19. When one considers the leafy surroundings with the reasonable (for London) housing costs then East Dulwich is a brilliant place to live. It's far more pleasant than many super-expensive parts of North London like Crouch End thanks to the more limited transport. As I am your achetypal "nappy valley" thirty-something with a baby on the way, this suits me just fine. ;-) I used to live in East Dulwich in my 20s before moving to Bethnal Green (Globe road, Brick Lane etc) for a few years with my then girlfriend (now wife). I liked living in both areas, but made a mental note of ED as a good place to return to with a family when I was older. Given you are both Event Managers I guess you'll already have alot of nights out as part of work, so ED might just be the ticket to escape from all that. However, there is another option you might seriously consider - Brockley. This area still has reasonable prices and is now on the East London line which takes you into Shoreditch.
  20. Bsand, Or promote cremation. Burial grounds are a waste of space.
  21. Inside 72 was great. If you wanted to write about a mixture of young student types caught up in the Libetines indie scene and old beardy hippies supping ale then that would be your place. Nothing like it in ED now. The Adventure Bar that replaced it is a TOWIE freakshow. I guess that's a bit snobby... ;-)
