  1. Hi there I am looking for someone to build a den/tree house type thing - design and build it. I live in Gipsy Hill and need someone with availability relatively soon. Thanks!!
  2. Hi there, I am looking for a local ukulele teacher to come to my house to teach two children aged 5 and a half and 8 the ukulele (at the same time). I would be looking for someone either at 4:30 or 5pm on a Monday or Friday or on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Thanks!
  3. Hi there Can anyone recommend a good maths tutor for a struggling/low-on-confidence 8 year old boy, summer birthday just turned 8 (just started year 4 - private system). We are not looking to drill him, we are looking for someone fun and kind who gets young children who struggle with maths concepts and can help boost his confidence. Looking for someone to come to our home in West Dulwich/Gipsy Hill area twice a week after school (ideally Monday - Thursday, 4:30/5pm ish) No need to suggestions around maths games online and so on....he won't do them, totally refuses to do anything like that with us. Kumon is definitely not for us, either, and school have discouraged us from Kumon. Thanks!
  4. If you are moving house you can apply to have a parking suspension, via th council Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > BikeChick Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > I disagree. 5. I disagree. I feel like it is arrogant to assume you can reserve a spot. I have moved house multiple times in London and each time reserved a parking suspension in the normal way. For a skip I don?t think anyone is entitled to a skip outside their house! First come first served. If there were a polite note on the bins explaining the need, maybe... but otherwise sorrynotsorry !
  6. Just move the bins. I see this all the time, often in Dulwich Village. I just move the bins back onto the pavement and park. I am just as entitled to park there as anyone else!
  7. I have a bin bag full of them...in good condition. Does anyone know of anywhere I can recycle or donate? Thanks!
  8. It is obviously possible to do it yourself, but I have been using a nannypaye company for over 3 years now because for the sale of ?160 a year it takes a massive PITA off your hands. They do everything, including SSP or SMP if your nanny is sick long term or goes on mat leave. Dont forget you need to do the employers' NIC too. Our nanny had a second job so we had to split tax codes, etc etc and nannypaye dealt with all of it. They also helped me deal with a redundancy situation/payment correctly and calculated all the payments due etc. Honestly I would never do it myself...not for the cheap annual fees they charge. They are so helpful, too. I use nannypaye.co.uk
  9. Does anyone have an example of an au pair or live-in nanny "handbook" or "manual" they would be happy to share with me? Thank you!
  10. The extra scans at Kings are to do with the research they are doing there, I believe.
  11. Sorry the link to the word document didn't work....I found it by googling "Birch Tree Midwives" and it was called "Improving Services for Pregnant Women at Kings College Hospital"
  12. I am SE21 had a home birth with the Brierley Midwives (now know as Birch Tree). The Home Birth/Community Midwives Teams have changed a lot over the last year or so, and I am still in touch with my midwife who gave me some info on the changes. There are now four teams covering the whole Kings area and I think, based on the info I received from her and this info I just located online, you would be the Denmark Hill team:http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwibirKRwJDLAhVBbhQKHbBMAxUQFgglMAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lambethccg.nhs.uk%2FPractice-Portal%2Fnews%2Fgp-bulletin%2FDocuments%2F06.11.2015%2F1.%2520Improving%2520services%2520for%2520pregnant%2520women%2520at%2520Kings%2520College%2520Hospital.doc&usg=AFQjCNG1nGSRydUHskazZR4mnh3yA-j3Zw&sig2=kBeLAhIkhZ-GmXw980kLxw
  13. I can't recommend a professional but I just wanted to post that this sounds a lot like our house at the weekends...we have a 2 year old and a 5 year old (both boys). It is relentless and noisy and they have started squabbling a lot. Does not help that our two year old has very slow speech so he can't make himself understood...so he screams and shouts. I think it is a phase....and will get easier. However, one thing I have noticed really helps is doing things individually with the two of them. So, I might take the older one to swimming and then for brunch or coffee on his own, for a treat and abit of solo time and attention. 2 year old stays with my husband. 2 year old is much calmer when on his own and plays happily. Obviously this isn't ideal as weekends are ideal family time...but we find if we mix it up a bit like this, the weekends are much more bearable. Also....consider getting a babysitter in for a few hours during the day at the weekend, to perhaps take one of the kids. There are lots of fab local au pairs who love extra babysitting.
  14. Hi - did you leave a Gieves & Hawkes suit carrier on the platform at Peckham Rye this morning? It was hanging on the back of a seat on platform 1 (direction London Bridge/Highbury and Islington). If so, it has been handed in...really hope it finds its way back to its rightful owner!
  15. I would advise you to persevere as there are definitely home birth teams at Kings. I had mine with Brierley Midwives. You could try and call them directly, or write to them. Keep asking until you get to speak to the right person. You could even call in as the community midwives centre is based right behind midwives house. There are a LOT of other issues involved with using a private midwife...insurance, etc etc. I don't know the details but I would honestly recommend trying to speak to someone in the community midwives team at Kings before you go down the private route. Kings has an INCREDIBLE homebirth team.

  17. Health Hub in Herne Hill do the vaccination - mine have been done there (and also recently had their Men B there, too). The vaccination is routine in other countries (US, Canada, Australia) but not here (cost I believe). Would really recommend Health Hub - the doctor there is so lovely with the kids. http://www.healthhub.london/vaccines/
  18. I have a HUGE bag of baby clothes - around 150 items - to donate. They are mostly for age newborn to 3-6 months. All kinds of clothes - onesies (short and long), t shirts, trousers, socks, hats, jumpers and jackets, vests, bibs, dungarees. I would like to be able to donate them to charity or to a women's and children's refuge. Does anyone know of anything local? Thank you
  19. My new baby never woke my toddler. Can you do sleep training with toddler? Tricky with newborn, I know. Can you get someone in to help you at night? Night nanny? Sleep trainer? I know people who have nailed sleep issues in 5 days with a sleep trainer.
  20. Chicken pox vaccine is for 12 months plus - I thin you just need to wait a couple of weeks after MMR (or get it done before). Mine got their chicken pox vaccinations at http://www.ja-medical.co.uk/ it is right next to Bromley South station and very handy. Also cheaper than the places on Harley St. They are a private medical clinic.
  21. I think the reason I did not understand the problem is that Southwark's approach is ENTIRELY different to Lambeth's! Sorry.
  22. I am not sure if this is any help but we live in West Dulwich, so Lambeth. We just had a dropped kerb done last week. It was a simple process, cost ?1700. The council were very efficient and we didn't even have to have a line painted on the road if we didn't want to. We did (this cost ?100) and it just covers our dropped kerb area plus a very small distance either side. Southwark's approach sounds very odd. I don't understand why people think creating a driveway and dropped kerb creates parking problems for others. It simply takes a car off the road and onto a driveway, so the net result is the same as the car being parked on the road! I also think it makes crossing residential streets a lot safer if there are large gaps to cross in. I can't tell you how many times I have been crossing our road with a buggy and 3 year old walking next to me and not been able to see cars coming up and down the street as I edged out between parked cars.
  23. I spoke with the new owners and also heard from others who had similar problems. They are having trouble transitioning the business but I think it should all be sorted with time. Just wanted to make people aware in case they have similar issues to me.
  24. I wanted to post some information about www.simplychildcare.com because I have recently had problems with them - I signed up, created an advert, paid a ?35 subscription but even though my money was taken, my ad never went live. I tried contacting them by phone but the number is disconnected, and there are no replies to emails. Anyway, I eventually found (via BT phonebook) the home phone number of the owner of the company, and after ringing it I found out that, very sadly, the owner has recently passed away and sold the business. Clearly there should be information notifying potential customers of this on the website, but there is not. The new owners are Eden Private Staffing and you can find the right phone number by googling them. They were helpful when I eventually got hold of them.
  25. We got ours within the last year and went through ShuttersUp. They were excellent and the shutters are great quality. In our previous property we had bought them through JL, Hilary's and Thomas Sanderson. ShuttersUp were by far the best and very reasonable price. Excellent to deal with, efficient, friendly and beautifully fitted.
