  1. alice, the school's fields are classed as Metropolitan Open Land and are not allowed to be used for parking. It is a really bad problem, I agree, but how much worse would the traffic be if the Dulwich schools didn't have their coach services? 50 odd children on each coach - how many cars would that be? The coach drivers need more policing for sure.
  2. KidKruger said "This school has enough space to create their own coach park, off the street and on their own land." The playing fields are apparently Metropolitan Open Land and can't be changed into parking. I believe the school has tried to obtain more parking spaces but to no avail for this reason.
  3. Becca said "were debating getting gas put to kitchen for a gas hob when had kitchen redone but as builder pointed out gas isn't going to get any cheaper." Neither is electricity! That's a non-argument :-)
  4. Google maps gives three options, not much to choose....
  5. May I suggest you have a look at the alumni site which you can access via the school's website? there is also a facebook site called Alleyn's 1970s which has loads of pictures etc
  6. not really an indian dish, though, is it in this case? Cypriot??
  7. Well, Loz our legal system is so biased in favour of drivers, as maybe this incident reflects: "Driver fined ?180 for defective tyres after killing four cyclists" see this Telegraph article from 2006: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/1525561/Driver-fined-180-for-defective-tyres-after-killing-four-cyclists.html
  8. do you mean prostitutes?
  9. Teachers at our schools....
  10. "If you have a tile floor, then underfloor heating is really effective." Yes I agree, this would be the best solution. BUT you'd have to have your floor tiles removed, the underfloor electric wiring laid and connected, and then new tiles laid on top. So not a cheap option, but the best long term solution. Lovely and warm on the feet, of course and the air above. Ideal. You can also control the timings individually, so - if wished - just have it on in the morning when you're all using the room.
  11. Only in the sense that you can't buy a new one, Foxy. Nothing to stop you using it!
  12. I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Best wishes!
  13. Foxy said "247 Mtres" (I said "a couple of hundred") Foxy, you're splitting hairs there, man!
  14. Dulwich was a hamlet in the parish of Camberwell. Probably till the mid 19th C or thereabouts, which is where the name comes from. I suppose you could argue that the name Dulwich Village comes from the street which runs through it? St B is only a couple of hundred meters (if that) from there, not unusual for a church in a country village, that sort of distance?
  15. Strangely, my insurer, Esure, doesn't raise it's rates hugely each year. I always check with go compare etc but can't seem to ever beat their renewal premium. Might be worth a try?
  16. Sydenham library will take them with pleasure - they sell them to raise funds to pay their running costs. They are not open every day though: Mon and Sat 0930-1700 Tue and Thur 0930-1900
  17. https://youtu.be/U5bUmx-hk-c Summer in the city. Lovin' Spoonful. A smash
  18. I am afraid that charity is no longer able to take old PCs as it would cost them money nowadays. They do accept working laptops though. Shops that sell PCs are obliged by the government to take them though - PC World?
  19. I DIY-ed a new element and sourced the fitting from an online video - there were several I think. It was a doddle.
  20. GinaG3 said "It finishes at 9, I just checked. Normally fireworks right at the end. Just had to check out their auction as they've been drivelling on about it all day. I live right next to JAGS so I too can hear every word, infact they're almost in my garden." Nonsense! There are NO fireworks and it finishes by 5 apart from the cricket which is silent basically. Or are you talking about JAGS ??
  21. I never had bad service there; I'm really sad to see it go.
  22. I don't think there are fireworks. It should be all quiet by 5 at the latest. Bear in mind it's also F day at JAGs and DC too today.
