Indeed. If you google map it you can see the building site. Wonder if anyone on here knows the couple building the house?

^ Completely agree. The whole of the station will need a complete re-think if they're going to put in barriers. I'm guessing it's probably too late now to take back the rest of the old station building that used to be the garden centre, what with the new development? Unless of course that's part of the plan and I've just missed it...

If they want to keep me by offering a good deal that's fine, I'd happily stay. But if not, then given the encouraging words here and in other places I've asked, I think I'll be happy to make the move. Though I would be a bit sad to lose orange wednesdays.

I still do it sometimes when the overground is out, but it a.) takes a little longer b.) means changing at london bridge c.) costs more as I use oyster pay as you go. The way I use costs me ?1.60 each way as I mostly travel off peak. Via LB is at least double that I think...

The "official" timings are Act 1 - 7.30 Interval - 8.30 Act 2 - 8.50 Finish - 9.50 (approx) But as help-ma-boab said, it has been finishing considerably later on some nights, so I would plan for it to finish at around 10.30. Transport is dead easy - tube to canada water, over ground to peckham rye, national rail to east dulwich. You can drive, but pre-booked parking is ?21 and on the day is ?30 so it's not cheap, and it can take a while to get out afterwards. I work at The O2 and do the train journey every working day and have it down to a fine art. It takes around 30 minutes if you get on the right trains!

Excellent - thanks so much to you all for the feedback so far. I think I'm going to go for it unless my current carrier makes me an offer I can't refuse when I tell them I'm leaving!

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I hope so. Also, sorry that it's an incredibly dull topic for anyone other than me - however, any help would be greatly appreciated! Basically I was wondering if anyone on here is with Tesco Mobile? I am upgrading my current handset and have seen a great deal with them that provides the phone I want, all the mins/texts/data I could need etc at by far the best price of any provider I've seen. But I figure that there's got to be a catch right? Non-existent customer service? Restrictive T&Cs? Poor coverage? I know they piggyback on O2's signal, which I found to be serviceable when I was with O2 a few years back so I don't worry too much about that. But...there must be something, the deals must be too good to be true? Anyway, anyone willing to share any personal experiences of Tesco Mobile both good and bad would be greatly appreciated!

Dulwich Medical Centre - Any good?
ednewmy replied to Juliette&Rich's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
More often than not I struggle to string even a vaguely positive sentence together regarding DMC, so I feel I should at least describe my experience of dealing with them this week which was positive. I rang up at 8am, didn't get through a few times as the line was busy, so was expecting to not get through at all, but by around 8.05 I got connected and was delighted when the message came up saying I was only 2nd in the queue. I got through to reception after about 1 minute waiting and was given an appointment for 10.10. I was seen pretty much bang on time too. It is sad that I was actually totally shocked about a.) getting through at all and b.) being given a same-day appointment. Whilst it would have been nice to have seen my regular gp, that wasn't particularly a problem in this instance (I expect if I'd wanted to see her I'd have had to wait a lifetime as usual) I also appreciate this is no good for people who work normal Mon-Fri hours, but it felt like it could be a step in the right direction...maybe? Unless I was just extraordinarily lucky of course. Anyway, just thought I'd share this as I've shared negative views about DMC in the past, so thought it only fair to share a positive experience now that I've had one... -
No prebook appointments at DMC until end of March
ednewmy replied to midivydale's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
For the last year or so I've been seeing the same GP at DMC, and she's great - sympathetic, understanding, and she actually LISTENS. She's also not been too reluctant to run tests or make referrals, as others have been in the past. It's for this reason I'm really hesitant to change surgeries and risk going back to the same old "stop complaining" attitude of so many GPs I've seen in the past, some of whom have become almost combative when I've simply run an idea past them searching for answers as to what's causing symptom x or y. It's when I ring up and am told I can't see her for a month (or more) where I start having major issues with DMC. They need to stop taking on any more patients starting immediately, then put in place a proper appointment management system. Sure, it must be hard work managing a busy London surgery, but others do it, so why can't DMC. -
Squatters resident in east dulwich police stn

I have to say, living as I do just round the corner from the former new hope christian academy (building next to the constitutional club), it's actually nice to see some lights back on in that place and to see the building actually being used instead of just being left abandoned and unused. -
Whilst this is very sad, call me naive, but would there not be scope to incorporate (perhaps on a smaller scale) the fruit and veg business into the cafe next door? Either by using a little space inside the cafe, or more practically, by having fruit and veg racks out front. As I said, I'm probably naive when it comes to these things and I'm sure it's been thought about as a possibility, but it would just be nice if they could keep some sort of green grocery going even if it's smaller.

The Demolition of 34 East Dulwich Grove
ednewmy replied to Marcus's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This is very sad. I've only lived in ED for 2 years, but I've walked past this house countless times as it's on my way to the station watching it slowly crumble. Though I'm not surprised, we're rather good in this country of completely disregarding our architectural heritage all in the name of money and so called 'progress'. Shame. -
Save the kids collectors outside Dulwich station
ednewmy replied to jennyh's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I saw them there on Wednesday too. Think there were three of them, none had any kind of name badge or I.D, no uniform or anything, and their collection tins/buckets almost looked to me like they'd had stickers ripped off them and then something else stuck over the top. They were being enormously over-earnest to the point of verging on intimidating. As far as I'm concerned it would have been clear to anyone that these guys were not genuine charity collectors, so I didn't give them anything. -
I also live just off Lordship Lane and one of the many Indian restaurants has its "back end" (so to speak) opening onto my road, and there always seems to be a lot of rubbish around. It's certainly a worry that this will attract rats but (touch wood) fortunately the only encounter I've had with them was catching a train in the early evening a few weeks ago - the overgrown area around the path to ED station seemed to be absolutely crawling with them, and when a massive one ran across the path in front of me I nearly jumped out of my skin. They seemed quite keen on the area around the back of dominos pizza...

I'm afraid I cannot muster any positive feelings towards wasps given my mother's life threatening allergy to them. It is therefore pretty much hard wired in me that wasps = risk of death, and thus are to be avoided and gotten rid of as quickly and safely as possible. My parents have had 3 nests in the eaves of their house dealt with already this summer. This is away in Shropshire however, so I can't recommend anyone locally, but I know they use the local council service which has always been very good. Not sure if Southwark offer something similar.

Bumble (I guess!) bees have taken up residence in our compost hopper at the end of the garden. Just going to leave them to it I think, are you actually even allowed to have bees nests removed like with wasps?

Suspicious behaviour on Matham Grove
ednewmy replied to ednewmy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Not at my house, she was just trying to look through the frosted glass in the front door. I can't say for sure if she looked through letterboxes on other houses or not either. -
Hi all. Just in case this is happening elsewhere too, I thought I'd let you know. I witnessed a lady following the postmen as they went up Matham Grove today looking through all the doors, presumably to see if people were then coming to collect their post. I know this because I picked up my mail and saw a face peering in through the frosted glass. I opened the door to see who this was and she turned and walked away as quickly as she could. I asked "Can I help?" and she replied "Sorry wrong door". I then watched her do the same thing to about 5 or 6 more houses. Black lady with shoulder length black curly-ish hair, probably early 30s, wearing a peaked cap, shiny black jacket, light blue jeans and a backpack. I've already reported it to the non emergency 101 police line, so they are aware of this behaviour. If anyone witnesses her or anyone else doing the same it's probably worth reporting it as well.

New 'banksy' style mural, Blackwater street

Call me cynical, could this be clever marketing for the new Hitchcock film perhaps...?! -
Dulwich Supermarket & Off License on LL (Mentioned above, opposite ED Deli) Does a big bag of onions for about a quid. I always get them from there. Iceland on LL do cheap veg and the quality is fine, as good as any other cheap veg option. Their frozen veg is cheap too and decent, particularly the spinach which is cheaper and MUCH nicer than the equivalent from Sainsbury's, which tasted of fish and was disgusting. My housemate tells me the greengrocers on North Cross Road is good, and reasonably priced too.

Within a month of being elected Harvey Milk enacted an ordinance requiring owners to clean up after their pets. If it wasn't beneath him to do something about it, then it's certainly not beneath our local council to do something about it either.

I've been bitterly disappointed with DMC in the past. However, I have recently found a GP there who I like, who is sympathetic, thorough and actually seems bothered to listen to and do something about what I'm saying, rather than the usual "don't make a fuss" attitude I've come to expect of GPs. I've also managed to ring up and have an appointment within a couple of days (which is virtually unheard of at that place) and had some very prompt callbacks from the GP too. If they keep this up I'll stay with them but otherwise will look elsewhere!

I've now used this a few times to go to and from work at The O2. Generally pretty pleased (though it was down when I wanted to get home after finishing work early today, so had to go the old route via LB...a good second day for the service then...) - hop on at ED then change at one of the Peckhams to Canada Water and then across to North Gren. On way back the same, or go to Denmark Hill and get a short bus back home. 2 changes instead of the previous one at London Bridge, but what a change that used to be, especially when it's busy - yuck. I will miss picking up the Standard at LB on the way through though - as far as I'm aware this doesn't appear at any stage on my new journey. I will also miss the service from LB to DH when I'm in town rather than at work, as I did sometimes use that then get a bus from DH instead of waiting for the next ED service at LB. Though I'm sure it will generally be good for the surrounding area - am I the only one worried about its making the area more desirable and pushing up rents and house prices further?
