Any experience of a family move from ED to WD ?
Indiana replied to VALFR59's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hello - I can't comment on Ed vs Wd for your family move but just wanted to point out that this year you wouldn't have got in at Heber being on Beaval as the catchment area was 191m... So you are not necessarily in catchment every year. Good luck with your decision making! -

Hi again, I have just had an email from JAGs and their Pregnant Bums, Tums class with Oriane is back on again on Sundays from 7 - 8pm costing ?8.50 for non-members. I am going to start going - though I can't make this Sunday - will hopefully go on Sunday 20th May. Anyone else want to join? Hope everyone is doing ok -I am almost 17 weeks now - it seems to be speeding along now! Looking forward to meeting some of you later in the year perhaps I -
King's : is Diamorphine available during labour?
Indiana replied to Indiana's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Oh dear - sounds like you had a frustrating time...I wondered whether Diamorphine is now administered as first time round I hadn't heard of it (was told about gas & air, pethidine & epidural but not diamorphine).....and I am under the impression that not all hospitals 'do' diamorphine? I would be interested to hear from anyone who has recently given birth at Kings who was offered and/or had Diamorphine and whether they had a positive experience. Thanks! -
Just come back from a night away at The George in Rye...East Sussex - 1 hr 45 mins from Dulwich. Very lovely boutique hotel in the middle of Rye, lovely old little town with a Castle and not far from the beach at Camber sands. There isn't a Spa as such but we booked an in room massage which was great. Also had dinner at the restaurant which was lovely..and they don't have that two night minimum booking at the weekend policy. http://www.thegeorgeinrye.com/

That must be a mistake..but as for Heber - the furthest non-sibling space this year is 191M (as per the first post) so at the moment you are outside of the current catchment area even at 259M. I hope you are successful on the waiting lists.

Autumn babies club (due Sept/Oct/Nov 2012)
Indiana replied to Family Room Moderator's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think it's ?8.50 for non-members but just checked and it's not back for a few weeks til they finish the re-furb. Used to be Sunday evenings but they don't know the time yet when it comes back! I will check again in a couple of weeks -
Autumn babies club (due Sept/Oct/Nov 2012)

And Willish - re antenatal classes : there are NCT classes run locally which are very popular and also allow you to meet other first time mums due around the same time. I am still very close with my group from 2 1/2 years ago - infact all of us girls are out for dinner tonight. Get registered quickly though (via their website) as they fill up early. Alternatively or additionally you can do the NHS antenatal classes which are pretty informative but less about 'making friends' I guess..those are free obviously. I think there are other privately run classes too but I don't know that much about them I am afraid. -
Autumn babies club (due Sept/Oct/Nov 2012)
Indiana replied to Family Room Moderator's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi all - I am expecting my second on October 21st - my daughter will be almost 3 by then and she is so excited about the 'baby in mummy's tummy'. I am with the Lanes (I wasn't first time round so knew to register asap this time) Would be great to meet some new faces sometime - esp those mums to be who already have toddlers like me! Re Yoga, I think JAGS still do their pregnancy Yoga session on Friday evenings (you don't have to be a member for classes I think). I am not a big Yoga fan but I intend to go to Oriane's Sunday class of Legs Bums and Pregnant Tums at JAGS again as I went to it throughout my first pregnancy and really enjoyed it...I have attached JAGS details below. http://www.jagssportsclub.co.uk/aerobics.asp -
Totally agree ???. We had a similar situation with our wedding and invited children under 3 (i.e babies/toddlers) but older children were not invited for the same reasons - i.e it would have added a further ?2k to our cost whereas Under 3s were free, or it would have meant that a whole raft of our friends would have not been invited. Now that I am a mum myself, I still don't see an issue with kids not being invited to a wedding - it's not a right that they should be there (as expressed by some posters) and as many have pointed out, you don't have to accept. That said, again I agree with ??? re the difference between children and babies and I totally sympathise with the OP dilemma as I don't think it's fair to exclude babies and breastfeeding toddlers, or even those that are still young that the parents have not left overnight. I wouldn't have dreamt about doing that at our wedding but was very comfortable not inviting more grown up kids as I think that's a different ball game entirely.

I know there are hundreds down there but was hoping someone could recommend a toddler friendly holiday cottage in the Padstow/Trevose area of North Cornwall... We are planning on going in Sept so was hoping to find somewhere not too far from beaches but perhaps with shared facilities - i.e an indoor pool, playground and one of those farm cottage places where our little one can feed animals. Thanks!

My daughter started dropping her morning nap at about 14/15 months...then she quite soon needed to sleep for 2 hours from about 12.30/1pm - 3pm....we then let her go down about 7.30pm. She dropped the morning nap quite naturally and I think their lunchtime nap then can extend itself as a consequence. We then got to the point that if she had a busy morning, she could quite easily sleep for 2 1/2 hours at lunch but we have cut it back to 1 hour and half/45 mins so she is happy to go to sleep at 7.30pm/45pm not past 8pm!

What's been the best baby related present you've received?
Indiana replied to klove's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I got a BH bakery basket too - by far the best present! -
I too had the same experience at DMC Crystal Palace Road yesterday - no appt til 7th Feb. I made the point that I cant call at 8am normally as I am on the tube to work. It also took me 17 minutes to get through to find out I couldn't get an appointment for 2 weeks. Ironically, I just moved from DMC Chadwick Road due to location and have never had any problems getting an appointment at Chadwick Road in 7 + years I was there. Wish I hadn't now.

Agree with alot above - we are just off Pellatt Road - maximum 15 minute walk to Dulwich Park and same to Peckham Rye park, but only a few minutes to shops on Lordship Lane - perfect. You can also park.

I like Zara for separates ( good coloured jackets to go with black trousers or skirts) Massimo dutti have decently priced suits But best place recently for me is Banana Republic - I went there a month before my return to work with baby in pram and got a huge changing room with 3 shop assistants helping me ( it was a tues morning ) Managed to kit myself out with 2 new suits and 2 suit dresses, various accessories, tops and jewellery !

I think our little girl did this for a while around that age - we ended up making her bedtime slightly later and decreasing her nap time during the day to an hour and half. If she was still unsettled after being put down we found that singing her a little song over the monitor (usually 'row row your boat') instead of going in all the time helped to settle her. She would often be standing in her cot crying so we would ask over the monitor if she wanted a song, are you lieing down etc and it seemed to calm her without us having to go in. It lasted about a month - now she is alot easier to go down again

Twins to Thailand.... helpful advice needed
Indiana replied to flutterby's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ah yes - candj, that's what I mean by what our 20 month daughter slept in. It wasn't the bassinet but the car-seat type thing strapped to the table. I was getting muddled. The bassinets are for little babies. Also - we used Mamy Poko nappies in Bali and they were fine. -

I think BA must have a much higher limit as our daughter was a healthy 20 months when we flew to Bali w BA and I checked with them and it is fine. I think their bassinets are designed for kids up to 2 (then they need a seat). She was a little long for it but slept for 6 + hours She fell asleep on daddy and then was very carefully transferred to the bassinet. You then have to hope for no turbulence as they must be removed from the bassinet and then strapped to you. -

Deet not great for little ones I think? We took junior insect repellant and then also used plug-in repellants in her room and yes, mosquito net. -

Hello We flew BA to Singapore recently and were able to choose our seats beforehand. Unfortunately the bassinet seats had gone on the way out but when I spoke to them they told me the flight was only half full. So I therefore booked a window seat and an aisle seat hoping noone would then choose the seat in between. We were lucky as this is what happened so we got an extra seat. However, I was able to book the bassinet seat for the flight on the way back (though they cannot totally guarantee that a bassinet will be available to strap to the table). I would recommend you calling BA again and discussing it with them - not sure why they have told you that you can't pre-choose this seat - they are usually pretty good. Re other stuff - new toys, books that the babies haven't seen. Change of clothes for them (and you - just in case)!
