primary school visits/tours for prospective parents
Indiana replied to oimissus's topic in The Family Room Discussion
But top end of Barry Road is about 400 metres to Heber so probably not an option....walkjogrun.net is a good website to look at crow fly distances... -

Hmm Heber catchment has shrunk so much in recent years that top of Barry road would no longer be in it.... -
Washer dryers (sorry, boring thread)
Indiana replied to Polly D's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I had the same issue when number 2 was born but no room for separate machines I did look at a condenser which you can put in a cupboard? However I came to the conclusion after much research including on Which that washer dryers are very unreliable and you need to spend c ?1000 for a good one Instead can you do big service drys at your local? I do 3 big kids washes in the morning then leave at my launderette for a couple of hours.... All dry and folded and I worked out much cheaper than a washer/dryer! -
Asquith Peckham Rye: most expensive local nursery?
Indiana replied to muppet19's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Think gumboots is about ?50 for over 2s but is a community nursery ( and outstanding at recent inspection) That new ish one at The Elms on Peckham rye is about ?85 for under 2s I think... Big disparities but I guess they. An charge what they like due to lack of spaces vs kids in the area -
SelfCatering in Cronwall - near the beach?
Indiana replied to Susan's topic in The Family Room Discussion
http://www.mawganporth.co.uk/ We stayed here last Sept, in one of the 3 bedroomed Eco lodges with our 3 year old, grandparents and I was heavily pregnant. It was fab - outdoor and indoor pool on site, 10 minute walk to the beach and near all the lovely spots like Watergate Bay, Padstow etc. The Eco lodges are all fairly new and really well equipped. there's also a great cafe on site. We loved it. Hope that helps -
How soon should I start looking for a nanny
Indiana replied to j-mo's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Both times I have started looking 4 months in advance and secured one within a month or two. This was partly due to the fact that it has been a Sept/Oct start and lots of Nannies know in advance if their role is coming to an end at the start of the school year. I guess with a January start it may be a bit trickier but I would definitely start looking in Sept/October as December is a write off with Chistmas so ideally you want to find the right nanny by November. -
Just to add to the thread - an au pair is not an option as the baby will be too young. They generally only do about 25-30 hours per week too. They are not permitted to have sole charge of a child under 3.

Nanny payroll services suggestions.
Indiana replied to Bluedark's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Always been pleased with nannypaye.co.uk - they price match their annual fee too - knocked about ?40 off the fee for me -
You must be exhausted! We have had similar issues lately with our eldest... (Who you know!) A friend recommended a button jar (you can use pasta or similar but she loves things like buttons). Anyway - each night she stays in her bed and doesn't wander into our room she gets a button in the jar. After 7 buttons she gets a new magazine - holy grail in our house. It seems to have worked for now resetting her pattern. She is still coming in once a week or so but it went through a phase of every night which was driving me mad. I am sure they are still adjusting to the arrival of the little ones still. My old nanny said they may be craving our attention without baby in tow and another suggestion was you and him writing out a load of activities on different cards - things he would like to do with just one of you ( and without baby) ie cafe with mummy, swings with daddy. He then chooses a card and has to stay in bed for 3/4/5 nights to be rewarded with the treat. Hope it gets better soon

Southwark Primary School Admissions for Sept 2013
Indiana replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
PS This previous thread provides more info : http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,668055 You need to know which main gate they use as it can also make quite a difference it seems... -
Southwark Primary School Admissions for Sept 2013
Indiana replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
http://www.walkjogrun.net/ Pickle/Emski : last place distance means non-sibling offers. I use the above website to plot rough distances. If you click on 'create route' you can plot the distance from your house to the school gate (my understanding is they use school gate on their GIS software). It will do it as the crow flies. It won't be exactly the same as the results from their GIS software but is pretty accurate. -

Kings or Tommys for giving birth - first baby
Indiana replied to CocoC's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Lanes are excellent - massively oversubscribed. I have given birth at Kings twice (second with the Lanes) - Kings is fine, Lanes make it great. -
Southwark Primary School Admissions for Sept 2013
Indiana replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
GinaG - I hope you get a place somewhere within reasonable distance. It all sounds very stressful. I guess Heber was always going to be a non-starter given that the catchment last year was under 200m and you live probably over 1000m away. However in previous years you would have just about made it into Goodrich. Good luck. -

Thanks Verds - you are pretty close then so I imagine Heber's catchment this year is probably similar to last year. What did you get offered? My understanding of Bessemer is that it has not had a catchment area in previous years. Honey-b did not get offered Bessemer from her choices this year so has Bessemer become suddenly popular and has a catchment area this year? -

Can I ask what road you are Verds...? We are Landcroft Road and looking at Sept 14 admission - if Heber and Goodrich are out then I need to go on every school tour going! -
ED SME that makes brightly coloured chests of drawers?
Indiana replied to nikki73's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Its the fabulous Pistachio Giraffe : http://www.pistachiogiraffe.co.uk/ Laura made the lovely blue chest of drawers with owls for my daughters bedroom (featured under chest of drawers on her website). Her contact details are on the site... -
http://www.justsardinia.co.uk/accommodation/20/ We are going here in Sardinia in mid June with our 3 year old and 7 month old. I don't think it's quite a swish as Martinhal but my husband didn't fancy a 'resort' as such and we have always wanted to go to Sardinia. Beaches are supposed to be fabulous for children and we love Italian food.

My 3 year old got it a few weeks ago - my 4 month old got spots pretty much exactly 2 weeks after the first spots appeared on my 3 year old. My baby is still breastfed but only 1 feed a day so not enough for immunity I guess. I treated my baby as infectious for the last few weeks and avoided mixing him with other babies who hadn't had it as didn't want him to spread it. As it happens he has been relatively ok. Good luck

holiday cottages in Yorkshire - recommendations
Indiana replied to lucyA1308's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Don't know of any cottage companies per se but we go to the Dales in North Yorkshire all the time as my husband's family live in Skipton. I can highly recommend the villages round there....in the beautiful dales - like Grassington, Gargrave, Threshfield, Linton etc...really beautiful, lovely walks, not too far from Harrogate/Leeds/York etc...think the Tour de France is going through the villages next year. -
http://www.justsardinia.co.uk/accommodation/37/Residence-Lantana/ This is the place we are thinking of Emza - that made me laugh! Once when we were away our 18 month old slept in a cot in the bathroom!

I am looking at Lantana in the south - small family run place with self catering apts using hotel facilities... Near a beach and town... Flying easy jet 2 1/2 hours then its 20 miles from the airport Anyone been? Looks perfect
