  1. Is there somewhere locally selling fireworks? I've not been out and about much recently and not seen any signs.
  2. There are signs up on Talfourd Road looking for a cat that looks a little like this. If I go out later I will take down the details and post them here.
  3. Not ED but the pub i like most for a good old natter with mates over a pint is The Hope, Peckham. They play excellent music but at a sensible level!
  4. We have an old house with high humidity and run a dehu. It's brilliant. House starts to feel cold simply because it's damp and if we run the dehu it keeps it feeling much warmer for longer.
  5. Probably not until December but we do run dehumidifier from now onwards which helps keep the house from feeling damp which makes a massive difference
  6. All of the dropped kerbs in the recent Talfourd etc CPZ have had double yellow lines painted across them that extend way beyond the width of each drive. So not only is that parking space lost to the whole street, at least 1/2 another space per dropped kerb is lost too. And even if the house holder gives permission, if you park across the drive you'll get a ticket.
  7. They've not even finished the line marking. Amazing how many fewer spaces there are going to be once all of the extended double yellows around e.g. Dropped kerbs have been painted in.
  8. New cocktail bar just opened in premise where Lerryns was on Rye Lane. Called two hundred I think.
  9. I travel in rush hour every day. Coming home I often walk to elephant and castle and pick up the bus from there as it saves all the aldwych/Waterloo traffic. I don't find it too much of a pain though usually? And at least on the bus you can get off and walk if traffic is poo. I hate getting stuck on trains.
  10. Arizona, especially Tucson. Only downside is short days. And - at present - the politics.
  11. All the details in here http://peckhampeculiar.tumblr.com/post/164515015329/new-dining-destinations-open-their-doors
  12. New restaurant opening in old waiting room of Peckham Rye station - Coal Rooms. 'Soft launch' this week. Lots of meat and smokiness by look of it.
  13. Skip lorries - bane of my life. They are in breach of their Southwark licence conditions if they place or remove from highway before 8am. Complain to Highways team and they will follow up with company. Done it several times and has made a difference...! I share all of these irritations I'm afraid. I try not to be cross as it's "all part of living Ina city" but doesn't stop it waking me up. Other annoyances: - the neighbour who needs to be in City v early and has a black cab come for him at 6am which sits with engine running whilst it waits - the neighbour who drives a large diesel, people carrier and leaves for work at 530 only after packing his van, slamming the back doors and side sliding doors as he loads his tools... But all lovely people so guess small price to pay..
  14. Nothing compares to u - Sinead O'Connor. Shudder. Even thinking about it takes me back...
  15. Brilliant, thank you all for these insights and tips. Updates will follow if I take the plunge... Perhaps I could borrow your plusfours Red Devil...?
  16. I've got a bit of an urge to learn to play golf. Is that wrong? It feels wrong. How would I do it? Where would I go? Anyone want to share lessons? Or should I just lie down in a dark room til the moment passes?
  17. Yep. First Direct all the way. Then if you can manage it, move monies around into Santander 123 for interest and cash back. But keep F D for primary banking. Customer service unbeatable..
  18. Agreed. A great place. Particular thanks to them for hosting this local charity art show this week. Get down there if you can. http://ch1889.org/news/19-plus-art-exhibition/
