I think the southern network is being deliberately run into the ground before being sold to the lowest bidder (tfl?) There's no good reason to cancel as many trains as they do on the whole network. A station at Camberwell is a great idea for train and road passengers and could be implemented easily. Haven't heard anything since this though... https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.standard.co.uk/news/transport/abandoned-camberwell-station-could-be-reopened-after-100-years-to-solve-travel-misery-a3492246.html%3famp

Trains just about ran on time from ED 10 years ago. Now there's a million extra people in London. The development of London bridge station didn't give any extra platforms. There's 3 separate train companies running into it with no extra capacity and Southern are the least priority. Our narrow roads won't get any quieter. Options? Reinstated line from Crystal Palace high level towards Nunhead (narrowly avoiding flats built on the site!); Trams running up arteries, Brixton hill, Peckham rye, Denmark hill, into London; Train line connecting directly ED to Thameslink at Loughborough Junc. Theres already much development on that line and as it runs north south without many junctions has the potential to run a very frequent, almost constant service (like the 2 min Victoria line). The last one is most achievable. Now who has ?2bil?!

The library is in Collingdale and I seem to remember bags are not allowed to be taken in. Have fun! -

National newspaper archives. Part of the British library. All local papers from across the country stored and available to view/copy. -
As a health worker myself its really lovely to read a post like this. I used to work in Kings and saw nothing but brilliant, dedicated people. So glad you had a good experience and are ok/on the mend.

I'm a light sleeper and these morning flights wake me up most days. They seem so much louder than the daytime ones! Without all the daytime background noise. If these flights are scheduled to land later I guess they have something like an open road ahead of them, an uninterrupted route into london and can probably take shortcuts from their flightpath. As people have said on this thread, if its legal to land planes at 4.30am, then companies will do it.

New to East Dulwich - General advice / sports

Think there's a gym right by you, in dulwich hamlet football club. Never been but a colleague says it good value. Welcome to the area! -
Extra vigilance without being paranoid now everyone. I am concerned that recent attempted attacks I have read about on the forum are related to this hideous event. Report sinister behaviour to the police. I want to string this bastard up.

ED house prices: sanity check please
iceicebaby replied to Wanhope's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Average income families will struggle to afford a 3-bed house anywhere in London. That's the reality of this city. East Dulwich is an extremely nice neighbourhood and so justifies being 200K + above the average London property. -
Someone offering a lift to a kid sounds a bit dodgy to me. If I was a parent I'd want to know this had occurred so I could reiterate the meaning of "stranger danger" to my kids. I don't care if it was a kind gesture or not.

Lovely restaurants in Crystal Palace (another thread perhaps?) Anyway, LL needs a Mexican, and another decent Thai or even Vietnamese. -
Fastest way to drive to Surrey
iceicebaby replied to Sam Toucan's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Dulwich college, Crystal Palace, down church road, past Crystal palace FC, skim Thornton heath, croydon, then left right or further south depending on which bit of surrey you need. -
God knows! I have a friend who recently married her neighbour though, now they live in the same house boo-yah! Good luck.

I use this bus fairly regularly during off-peak and weekends. From Underhill to Streatham and back. Have alway found it to be very reliable, almost always exactly on time, if anything it goes a couple of minutes' early from my stop.

Stealing daffodils from Piermont green
iceicebaby replied to Mrs Y's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I was merely remarking how pointless the theft of the daffs was given their low monetary value. Am surprised some read it the other way. No matter who steals the daffs, ruining a perfectly good community display is remarkably selfish. It shows what value some have placed on others' hard work. -

?1 a bunch in Sainsbury's the other day.. and penny sweets aren't as cheap as they used to be! I wish to add to my previous comment; stealing these daffs is like stealing penny sweets and then leaving half of the spoils on the floor and the shop in a bit of a mess. It's bang out of order! -

The price of daffs this time of year is practically free! It's like stealing penny sweets. -
Driving schools/instructors that teach in an (automatic) KA or Mini?
iceicebaby replied to zeban's topic in The Lounge
Get a proper licence then buy an automatic. You will be a better driver in the long run. I've seen a learner car that does lessons in the fiat 500. It was driving in the tulse hill area but I didn't catch the school name.
