  1. Could anyone recommend an educational psychologist for a private assessment (in a nursery setting).
  2. Just thought I would say that I went to the Gardens yesterday (with some trepidation after reading this thread) with my NCT group, who are all just about to pop. Although we haven't had our babies yet (so buggies etc aren't an issue) staff were very welcoming and helpful about moving tables to accommodate us. There were loads of parents and grandparents in there with babies / young children who all appeared to be being treated fine. Like Pickle, we arrived at 10:30 and the cafe was very quiet. Maybe it just depends on how busy / fraught they are when you get there?
  3. Thanks for all your advice on jabs. It seems that my surgery was just a bit disorganised and now has them in, so I am going for the double whammy tomorrow morning :-S Re books, CharDale my brother & sister in law just gave me "Your Baby Week By Week: The ultimate guide to caring for your new baby" by Caroline Fertleman and Simone Cave and from reading the first couple of chapters, this seems practical and non-scary. One of the alpha-mums at work also recommended Gina Ford's "The New Contented Little Baby Book" but I have to say that although this provides routines on when to feed / sleep / wash (for both yourself and your baby) I found it genuinely terrifying - very strict. Also, although it's not quite on topic, quite a few people recommended that I read Juju Sundin's "Birth Skills" which is about ways to cope with labour. I found it informative and reassuring (although time will tell whether it actually helps on the day...!)
  4. Hi everyone, Hope you are all well. Just wondering if anyone has faced any difficulties getting the whooping cough vaccine? It may just be that I need to speak to my GP directly but the receptionist and nurse at my surgery have said that at the moment the surgery (St Giles) is only offering to children. I find this weird because I thought this was a new national guideline that pregnant women should have it and my obstetrician has recommended it (although said I had to get it from my GP). Can I demand it even if the surgery isn't offering? Looking forward to meeting you in a couple of weeks!
  5. Ramble, I have found asos and seraphine (which you can get online or at John Lewis) good for not-too-expensive maternity stuff. I had a look in pretty pregnant on north cross road but couldn't find much there I liked. Tried to find out baby bursty's sex at the last scan but they couldn't see because of the baby's position. Anyone else have this problem? I have another scan on Tuesday so hoping to find out then.
  6. Love the holo-lilo! Unfortunately I won't be able to make it on the 12th (taking a final holiday before Baby Bursty's arrival) but I hope to meet you all another time.
  7. Hi all, I am strictly an Autumn mum-to-be (my due date is November 27th) but, as most of the Autumn club seem to be expecting quite a lot earlier than me and as this is my first baby (so liable to be late), I was wondering whether you'd all mind me joining the winter babies club? I also live closer to Camberwell/Denmark Hill than East Dulwich, but hoping that's not out of the catchment area for this group... I'm the first of my friends to get pregnant so won't have a clue what I'm doing. Very glad to know that there's a few others locally going through the same thing. I'm also having the baby at King's. I decided to sign up for NCT classes because these seemed to be universally recommended by anyone I do know who's had a baby. I was quite shocked by how much they cost though. I suppose that this is just the start of the expensive business that is childrearing. My classes start in October and are being held near Nunhead. Not sure yet if I'll also do the free NHS ones - my midwife seemed to indicate that I could sign up for them through her. Hope you are all feeling well! Would be nice to meet up at some point before the babies arrive if anyone is up for that?
