Fireworks at 10.30 pm - Dulwich Village area?
Metallic replied to Metallic's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I don't know what time your march is, I would like to support you on here at least - there is a big Southwark meeting at Alleyn's on 12 October, all morning, and many locals are planning to have their say at it, so sorry I can't join. Sorry - wrong place! -

Notice could be on this Forum and in the local Society e -newsletters. By the way - the only people who knew about the fireworks were the people at the party, the golf club and the fireworks techies. Until the booms started that is. I am not against fireworks. I couldn't give a toss about parties where they are let off at 10.30 to 1040 pm. Just saying a bit of neighbourly consideration to SE22, SE21 and SE23 wouldn't have gone amiss. -

The people I know make a point of being in with the dog in the firework season rather than leaving it alone. -

We should all complain if we were affected. There is no reason why an organisation, club or school can't make an effort to tell people in advance. All it takes is a few quid to leaflet or post leaflets up in a diameter of a mile. -
My poor dog went in to a complete tizz because the fireworks disturbed him so badly - I bet I'm not alone in that. It is only about three weeks ago we had another late display which was at Alleyn's School. Was this one at the College? Anyone know? It is time these organisations actually warned residents so they can prepare for the noise and so we can be with our terrified animals.

Just a bit of neighbourly warning would have been nice. Even if they did send notes out to neighbours - loud noise and bangs do travel a bit further than they clearly believe! Very enjoyable so no complaints about the actual display, just about not expecting it.

Felling of oak trees in Sydenham Hill Wood

The good news is that Cllr Simmons has re-opened discussions about this unnecessary piece of treework. -

Probably you missed the BBC news film on it? Whereas I didn't. -

Nxjen - As you are asking - I saw it! I appreciate this is not totally on topic but as Southwark is the base of both issues I reckon it is relevant. I was not a campaigner. -

It is Southwark's attitude to trees which is also important. Especially as they are jokingly having a consultation on trees! https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/parks-leisure/ -

Actually you are not totally factually correct but as you are so high handed and a bit too aggressive for me, I would just tell people to look for themselves, and try and find some photos of what these cemeteries looked like before Southwark cleared them. Additionally, as the new burial plots are mostly for Jewish and Muslim burials, they have ignored the fact that those religions do not allow for a burial to take place in such old plots. If you love the way Nunhead Cemetery has been conserved, then you should mourn what Southwark Council have done. Incidentally, they failed to get permission from the Diocese, who should have been consulted before, not during, clearance. And you may want to ask just how that worker got away with selling space for toxic waste to be dumped at the end of Ryedale gardens. Principally the trees in our Borough help fight the pollution we all breathe, and provide an ecological oasis for species of plants, animals and insects. What is wrong with that? -

Of course Southwark are also cutting down every tree in the cemeteries they use that are owned by the Diocese of Southwark - who don't care, incidentally. -

Thank you. I also have the direct phone number to the BT complaints. -
We have no BT - up to 500 lines affected according to their supervisor. Been going on for weeks!
-
Sorry to hear this - it is intimidating and worrying. Keep that car reg. on hand in case you see him somewhere else locally, at someone's door. Then dial 999 - he did threaten your property which is an offence. Without being too specific, could you say where you live?
-
In my area of Dul Vill we have been told by BT that there are about 500 lines affected by an unknown problem. The line gets restored, then it breaks again, and so on. Broadband also affected. The BT guys open all the cabinets in Half Moon Lane, Burbage Road, Dulwich Village etc., fiddle about for a couple of hours, open a conduit near Gail's Bakery - but nothing has been repaired permanently. And a couple of times they don't even replace the cabinet cover so it is open to any individual to mess about with it. BT will pay compensation as long as you deduct weekends from the time your service is off. Big deal if it is Thursday! Every BT techie has a different story and none of them one knows what is happening here. This last 47 days I have had minimal service. Don't they realise that older people with help bracelets (not me) if they fall, the call needs a land line to get through to the registered helper. Or lines that go direct to burglar alarm companies, calls which are immediately passed to police. At this time of year many are on holiday and if they had this service and were burgled - forget it!

Dulwich Estate - fit to run conservation?
Metallic replied to DulvilleRes's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes - pluck up the courage to go through and avoid the odd group of boys on bikes. Even if they are mostly robbing young people, you would feel you would have to intervene and help if it happened near to you. -

Brown bin collection - Council starting to charge?

What a waste of plastic. You order a larger food caddy and they deliver it with the small one inside even though we already have those. This week a couple of my neighbours couldn't find where the dustmen had chucked their food caddy once it was emptied. Who knows?!! -

At least you have somewhere to buy basic provisions!
