I know this won't help Daniel84 with the noise problem, but as you seem to have been taking an interest in the aircraft movements, I was wondering whether you are aware of a free app for iPhone/Android/PC called "FlightRadar24". This app uses the data transmitted from each aircraft passing overhead. It shows that the majority of them heading for Heathrow pass over an area between the top end of LL in the south and Burgess Park to the north. Also you can see what height and speed they are flying at, also their origin, time since departure, distance flown, etc. (There is a "Pro" version which isn't expensive.) With regard to the noise it seems surprising how far away the planes can be when the noise can be heard from ED - they can often be out over Greenwich, Lewisham, etc.
  2. Just seen Police in La Avril boutique and white van outside being loaded with goods from the shop - another victim of this wonderful "government"'s policies no doubt.
  3. Elizabeth Sharp Physical Health - used to be in a house in Grove Lane www.yell.com/biz/e-s-physical-health-london-2528901/
  4. I worked at Heathrow for about 5 years in the 1990's and arrivals from the far east and Australasia always started arriving around 04:30 am. There were very few takeoffs between 10:40 pm (BA to Tel Aviv) and about 06:30 am apart from an occasional mail plane to Europe. Contrast the Heathrow terminals overnight - where you could almost hear a pin drop - to Gatwick which is busy almost around the clock with all night flights, especially in summer, taking off over a rural area. At least we in South London don't have low flying aircraft taking off over us,because they're many 1000's of feet up before they reach here.
  5. ok we're all surviving but most of us would like to live a little as well.
  6. You should contact the Police in any incident of this sort as it could turn out to be connected with a crime having taken place.
  7. I'd really, really like to see a non-stop train from ED to Shoreham by Sea because my mum lives there and I visit her usually a couple of times a month. It would also be very nice if the only other passengers could be nice clean well behaved ones who wouldn't mind me knocking back a few cans of Kronenbourg during the journey (and subsequently snoring rather loudly)
  8. As the originator of this thread I have to confess that I inadvertenty referred to "ED pub", when I think the billboard actually said "Dulwich pub". Any confusion is my fault.Sorry :(
  9. This was on a billboard for the South London Press today, but so far I haven't been able to get a copy. Does anyone know which place they're referring to?

  11. It's owners who should be licensed, not dogs.
  12. We're in Landcroft Road and it woke us up 3:22am - bloomin' racket - it seemed to be hovering a lot higher than they often do, and no searchlight - probably using the thermal imaging gear(?).
  13. Dr Anu Bhatia is to replace Dr Johnson at Melbourne Grove medical practice in May 2011. (Dr Johnson retires on March 3rd)

Pedantic I may be but I recognized the confrontation location as Radstock Street just off Battersea Bridge road.

Most of the betting in boxing centres on which round the result will occur rather than on the winner/loser, therefore storing up the win for a particular round is definitely dodgy!
  16. David Haye claimed in a post fight interview that he didn't try to win until the 3rd round because his family and other connections had large bets on him winning in the 3rd. Whilst this could obviously just be an excuse for taking so long (!!!) the comment does seem rather unwise in view of all the recent betting scandals in other sports.
  17. Message moved to "One for the Boxing fans!" thread
  18. According to LBC radio - accident
  19. Just took a walk down to the off-licence and was amazed to see that the Lordship Lane illumination (note the singular!) is up already (outside number 191). No sign of any more down the road so this must be it for Christmas 2010. Thanks Scrooge-Wark Council, good to see you're being careful with our money.
  20. From my kitchen window the "Rainbow's End" falls very close to the Crystal Palace Tavern!:)-D
  21. I often travel from ED to the south coast and I've found this website easily the best :- http://www.southernrailway.com/. Also if you register with them you can often pick up tickets in advance for a lot less than paying on the day. e.g. ?3.75 single - you normally need to reserve a place on a specific train for the best discounts. Also when you pay by card online you get a reference number and can collect the tickets from Southern Railways ticket machines. P.S!!! I should add that it seems best to start your journey to Brighton (BTN) from Victoria (VIC) or possibly East Croydon (ECR) to get the cheapest fares. If you start from Forest Hill (FOH) or East Dulwich (EDW) the prices generally seem higher.
  22. Louisa's original post contained the line : "we may be able to get a few PCSO's on the lookout for the phantom puker" Well they needn't look far because some ghastly oik chucks up frequently inside the bus shelter right outside ED nick! Why oh why do people use a bus shelter when there's a perfectly good gutter about two feet away??? Actually, considering the location, maybe it IS the PCSOs who are the culprits? After all they don't seem to be above getting take-aways from the nearest chicken shop which looks pretty revolting.
  23. I don't know if she's still around but there used to be a young woman who would show you a ghastly looking swelling (about golf ball size) on the palm of one of her hands and ask for money so she could have it removed. It was probably some type of prosthetic, and the obvious question that arises was why she didn't just see an NHS doctor about it,but I have seen people being fooled by it.
  24. Over the last year or so I have noticed many motorists getting ticketed - by the roving (maurauding?!)scooter riders with council logos on their backs. This seems to be for parking adjacent to the dropped kerbs which were installed for prams, wheelchairs etc.. As we have just had our road resurfaced and new white lines painted to mark the road junction, I was hoping the council might also have had some warning lines painted to indicate the extent of the dropped kerbs and thus save motorists falling foul of this. It just seems to be a "nice little earner" for the council and somewhat unfair. (By the way I have no axe to grind as I do not own a vehicle.) Incidentally, I've just had a Victor Meldrew "I do NOT believe it!" moment - the road (Pellatt) which was newly resurfaced yesterday is already being dug up a few doors away from us!!
  25. According to Kirsty this is "FUNKY" East Dulwich!!??
