  1. The Hogwart's Bed is progressing slowly but surely. After months of searching, we think we finally found the appropriate herbs at an obscure garden centre in Scotland, will try to order them this week. In the meantime, we've installed the centre piece, a cuddly sculpture whom we've christened Eric O'Phiuchus (long story!). Special thanks to Anna at the North Dulwich Pot and Plant Garden, Peter for the lifting and magic mastic, and Royston for the logistics. Community Action Rocks, yay!
  2. My initial concern, when councillors were notified of this project by council officers, was also about the possible impact of "copycat" graffiti in the area. But, having met Stik last Saturday, I'm greatly reassured by his responsible, pro-community stance. And, as Ingrid stresses, this isn't just a random, opportunistic operation... it's a specific community "performance art" project, uniquely based on renditions of the works in the Dulwich Picture Gallery in tandem with the timing of the Dulwich Festival, executed with the permission of the owners of the sites. If there is an increase in graffiti in the area, I will personally ask Arf, our amazing street-cleaning manager, to send his graffiti-busters down here... or, if anyone wants to report graffiti in general, call our Environment Call Centre on 020 7525 2000.
  3. I caught Stik in action, just half an hour ago!

Where are the Suburban Pirates when you need them?? Anyway, the lorries are parked up on Colwell Road and the sun is shining... I think I'll go out there and expand my skill set by learning about sewer-hoovering.
  5. Just a heads-up to let residents know that Thames Water will be implementing urgent works to clear the sewers on Melbourne Grove from Lordship Lane to East Dulwich Grove beginning at 6pm until approx 10pm tonight (01/05/12). They're starting on the Lordship Lane end first and it's possible that the works could take up to three nights, depending on how it goes. The sewers and overflow are badly silted, which could cause flooding with all this rain, so the problem was caught in the nick of time. The lorries are astonishing large and the work will be disruptive, but it needs to be done and the contractors are trying their best to keep the inconvenience to a minimum. As I live on Melbourne Grove, I've offered to be a central contact so call me on 020 8613 6046 if there are any issues that need addressing. I met the crew last night... they are really lovely and respond well to tea! I suppose we could try to make the best of it and hold a spontaneous May Day Sewer Celebration?? 6. Actually, I'm also a Liberal Democrat councillor and I voted against the introduction of the CPZ at the Jan 24th DCC meeting, so I think it's unhelpful to make this into a political issue. At the meeting, I explained in a nutshell exactly why these issues keep arising and gave my advice of what the public needed to do to address them longterm, but it seems that nothing I said has registered, which is a bit worrying.
