It?s the desire to ?display? - a very basic human instinct - now technologically supercharged so that it functions in ways that weren?t possible until very recently. Facebook (whilst being a trite load of shite on one level) - is totally fascinating in this respect. What people choose to broadcast; what they think it says about them; how it actually gets interpreted - whether it?s a conscious or subconscious decision on their part or not. It?s a people-watching goldmine. You can scoff at those with their pithy-icky tributes to X Y and Z but the truth is that the decision ?not? to comment or ?show anything? can be just as much of a signal.

  5. My spies tell me - the new 'Potager' place on FHR where the diy shop used to be.. So they say anyway

  7. Being called 'Ched' should be a criminal offence. The parents should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
  8. They're passing-up a golden opportunity to make this the most famous exploratory vessel in history (apart from the Starship Enterprise, obvs) Anyway, they'll name it something else like HMS Pompous, or Splendid, or Nelson Mandela - but it will always be known colloquially as 'Boaty - and hopefully every time it makes the news for finding a new shape of snowflake or mincing a dolphin in its propellors, the newsreader will say 'the ship that was nearly called Boaty'.

  10. Come on, Alan - it totally makes sense. Everyone knows that shops with rents in excess of ?50k p/a don't need sales - they can survive simply on the 'good feelings' of people who can't afford them but are glad they're there.
  11. It reminds me of the Caffe Nero thing. 'Nobody' wanted them either. Big noise, lots of smoke. Don't want their sort. Let's vote with our feet. Some years later.. Caffe Nero doing just fine. Personally, I've never been in the place, but there it is, other people do. These place do their research before spunking large sums on such ventures. On the Betty front, these clothes may seem expensive and out of reach to some - I can appreciate that, but let's get realistic here: ?60 or ?70 quid on an item of clothing, whilst not cheap, is not exactly high-end boutique pricing. We're not in Knightsbridge yet, darlings. Go into any bog standard fashion 'name' chain type clothing retailer and the prices are no different.

Congratulations! Where else shouldn't 'we' be spending 'our' money?
  13. 90% of leisurewear never sees a single droplet of sweat anyway. Unless you count the 'food sweat' after overindulging at Chicken Cottage.
  14. A salient lesson in how taking out an injunction to stop people looking at something that they probably weren't that interested in looking at will - sure as eggs - lead to everyone immediately wanting to look.
  15. There was also related fashion-news during their latest 'make or break' holiday, Jeremy. "Strictly host Tess showed off her figure in a sheer white playsuit over a black swimsuit, accompanied by a hat and shades. Meanwhile Vernon, 41, opted for a questionable look - wearing a cap backwards and keeping a towel wrapped round his waist, under a long-sleeved grey top."
  16. Text-sex Vernon humiliating his wife again.
  17. It provided a pleasant ten minute diversion during a recent family get-together, with everyone having a guess at who it was. A couple of clues were required. A Guylian chocolate to the winner.

  19. Property Bladdered Homes Under the Hummer etc There's one in the US called 'Spouse vs House' where hapless husbands with limited DIY and interior design skills are given limited budget to makeover/ruin the marital home. TheWifeTheWife doesn't have a say or see it until the damage is done.
  20. Is there a picture of the neighbour?
  21. That does look nice. I'd love to live in Tenterden, Kent. After spending the morning morning admiring my giant house (alone) for an hour, I could sit in the garden, bored shitless for an hour or two, maybe try and get the ride-on mower going. Then, after a trip to town to admire the hanging baskets and listening to general post-office blue-rinse chatter about immigrants ruining the country, I can return home and spend the day emailing friends in London, pleading with them to come and visit.
  22. Would anyone like a cup of tea?

The floodgates have been open on this for half a century, it's not new. Amongst the few high profile cases that make the news because the tracks are just so famous, there are countless others that are negotiated behind the scenes. The more money involved, the more horse-trading. Uptown Funk is a classic example: starts out with a couple of writers and a couple of publishers. Becomes smash hit. Vultures circle. At one point this track had three dozen publishers making a claim! I think they've settled on ten writers now or something like that. Good going for a basic chord progression.

Anyway, once upon a time there was probably an old blues guy sitting in a bar playing his $10 guitar who can recall when Willie Dixon caught his set and then went on to borrow a few licks.

Dixon got his piece of the pie on WLL in the end though - as well as full credit and remuneration on other Zep tracks.. they weren't exactly trying to hide from him. The fact that the nobody bothered to haul the Faces through the courts tells the story: as long as you don't make too much money you're probably ok. Secret Chord progressions and undiscovered melodies are thin on the ground these days. If all writers fairly credited everyone they 'borrowed from' - before even a deal was signed or a record released - they'd spend more time trying to agree the publishing then they would writing the music. IMO.
