I am going to Calais in December with a van load of stuff. The charities there have told me that they particularly need tarpaulins to provide extra shelter. Can anyone suggest where I might be able to get a good deal on tarpaulins- i wondered aout builders merchants etc who might give a discount. Any suggestions welcome Thanks

I don't think the living wage thing is resolved. Workers at the Brixton picturehouse have got it but does anyone know if the workers at east Dulwich will? Other picturehouse workers haven't been awarded the same settlement. J

I agree we need new secondary school but I gather that there are other interested parties that have not been mentioned The charter school is also putting in a bid and although it has now formed a trust to do so,it is not really a brand in the way that Harris and possibly haberdashers are .However, their bid might answer some of the questions being raised here- it stands for a consistently co educational structure,secular, with a broad curriculum,no selection-a truly comprehensive and community based school. I agree we don't want brand wars so surely our local councillor should at least mention the different bids in this discussion rather be seen to be campaigning for one particular "brand". I agree with others that this unplanned free for all is not really the way this should be done but that is because of government policy. Locally we just have to make the best we can of it and try to get what we want. Our councillor should help us do that.

I have been with this dentist for 25 years and they have been great. They we're let down by the last owner of the practice but seemed to be making a comeback which is why it's so strange that they have not kept patients better informed. I tried to phone today and still got no answer- anyone else got any updates?

This is great news about the cinema - I hope that the workers are going to be paid the London Living wage , as Cineworld have finally agreed to do at the Ritzy Picturehouse in Brixton after a long struggle

Great- I think we really need one. They are showing films at the EDT but it would be so nice to see up to date films. I never go to the Ritzy becasue its too crowded and is now relly a cafe with a cinema at the back.Peckhamplex is good value but doesnt show arty films. Would that be the idea?(as well as kiddy fims obviously!?)

Dear James, I thought I would take this opportunity to say how much I hope that the proposals for the Controlled Parking Zone will not go through. I live just behind Lordship Lane. Occasionally I cannot park my car outside my house- but I just park somewhere else. This does not worry me in the slightest and it is a small price to pay for living in a vibrant area full of independent businesses. I believe that a Controlled Park zone will destroy this- so please dont do it. Thanks and good luck!
