Hi Hannah. From our experience of dealing with Piplings, I would stay well clear. Whilst the day care is supposed to be pretty good, the overall management team/owners are truly shocking. We placed a ?1,400 deposit with them to take our son, only to find out a week later that we were pregnant, and could not afford the fees on one salary. 3 months out and with a waiting list as long as your arm, they refused to refund us any monies from our deposit, and I would go so far as to say they were very arrogant about the fact that they could do so. It seems they have a separate income stream from ?deposit payments?, as we were one of several, we later found out..... Would not recommend for sure! Plenty of other good nursery?s in ED, so best of luck.

Really nice touch, and glad to see they will be charging the man responsible. Our thoughts are with his family x -

P.s. worth noting that this was 9 weeks before our little boy was due to stay with them. -
Piplings Nursery - feedback request

STAY WELL CLEAR off this nursery!!!!! We registered our little boy with them, only to find out several days later that we were expecting again. We foolishly thought such a reputable nursery, with an extensive ?waiting list? to get in, would be understanding. How silly were we...Just an arrogant owner referencing contract terms to us. Yes we lost the full deposit of ?1,400, but a close shave for us I think. Has to be better places to place your children in the area. We have since gone on to find that we are one of many families who have been treated the same way....... -
LOST Rain Cape - Brooks John Boultbee (Grey/Silver)
george74 posted a topic in Lost, Found or Stolen
Long shot I know, but it seems as though my "Brooks John Boultbee Oxford Rain Cape" in Grey/Silver piping has fallen off the back of my Brompton saddle. It is extra large and covers the whole body, with pockets for your arms and straps to attach to handle bars. It neatly folds up to strap to saddle via leather straps. If anyone has picked it up around the East Dulwich/Peckham/Herne Hill area please let me know. 07860 113750 Many thanks -
This is a great idea and I hope it comes to fruition. I for one use the Rockwell & Charlton (heated) Lido's year round so this would be a fantastic addition to the area. Ok, you might only get the hard core swimmers throughout the winter, but for anyone that has been to Rockwell Lido in the summer months to witness the hour+ long queues, I'm sure you could see why this would be popular. With the addition of a gym/cafe etc. it should also work financially. As an aside, Triathlon is still one of the fastest growing sports in the UK, so people like myself are crying out for 50m pools, indoors or out! Best of luck! I will certainly be supporting.

A great addition to FHR. Very cool place with a decent garden section for those sunny days and some nice seating at the front. Coffee is good and they do some mean cakes, sandwiches and homemade goods. Definitely worth a visit if you haven't already been.

What a fantastic idea! Where is the location? For sure it would be packed during the summer months and I for one would be in there year round instead of Brockwell Lido. Petition signed.

Good food; great decor and nice enough guys. A welcome addition to this side of East Dulwich. Hoping once they get settled they can extend their menu as quite limited right now. Best of luck!! -
Just to throw a warning out there, that there seems to be another spree of car break in's around the Forest Hill Rd/Mundania Rd area. No idea when it happened, but must have been over last couple of nights...this also follows several incidents of petrol syphoning; I can only assume for those hair dryer scooters the youths fly around on!

Not sure we need another creche that doubles up as cafe.....ED has way to many of these; to the point that you really do struggle to fine somewhere to sit with a coffee in relative silence... Thought it would have made a great fine dining restaurant myself.

Kandassamy & Curtis, your stuff is dumped in my street

Shocking to see what some people think is normal behaviour. Can you report them to Southwark Council? There must be a division for this type of offence. -
We live in one of the busiest cities in the world, and yet we are complaining about a few flights?? How else are people supposed to travel here? I suggest moving to the country would solve any issues with noise.

I have to say, I really don't see what's cultural about throwing balls of hair the size of tumbleweed into the streets around near PR station! Unless of course it's 'Canang Sari' (Balinese street offerings). Or are we saying hair is biodegradable and best we do this instead of using rubbish bins?!?!? Not the most pleasant journey home, but at least I get to stand on the 363 with the empty fried chicken boxes.

Hi Annie. Great idea. I would be keen to get involved. Have lived in ED for circa 9 years, enjoy cooking and always good to meet new people. Just not sure I could squeeze more then 6 around my dinner table..... Regards Graham

If they are coming to ED that is great news!

I would have, but he wouldn't even let us put food on.... caught us just as we got it fired up!!

Has anyone tried to have a BBQ in Peckham Rye Park? If not, I wouldn't bother. I took my parents there last night for a pleasant evening in the sun with a small 'webber' BBQ that is specifically designed to use in outdoor parks etc, and we were asked by the Park Warden to put it out. Not only does this particular BBQ not harm the grass/park etc, but the Park Warden suggested we head down to Burgess Park as they have a specific BBQ area to use......I can understand that they are looking after the park, but really? we are not likely to litter or dispose of anything that would cause damage to the facilities. Do we not think Dulwich/Peckham Rye Park should have such an area? Or, should Southwark not just put a ban on disposable BBQ's? with such a high percentage of people in London living in flats with no gardens, I think it a little crazy that we are not allowed to use the parks/commons for such events. Not quite the same using your grill!!!

There is a specific 'code of practice' for dealing with Japanese Knotweed so would recommend you speak to the Council and Environmental agency before removing, as it needs to be taken away and contained; usually by specialist companies. Good luck!

advice re: morning trains to canary wharf pls
george74 replied to seemster's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I quite often get the 7:45am-8:30am trains from Peckham Rye to Canada Water and they are completely fine. You'll be lucky to get a seat, but even when they are quite busy you are only talking 3 stops, so no hassle at all. The change onto the Jubilee Line can be quite hectic (for a few mins) as only one escalator, but again, just take a deep breath and go with the flow.... I used to head the other way via Honor Oak Park and that is tens times worse! Good luck. -

Does anyone know where I can purchase large storage boxes for moving house? Thanks -
The local supermarket on Forest Hill Road next to The Rose pub is great. The fruit and veg is reasonably priced and is very good quality. I have now stopped using Sainsbury's for all my fruit and veg and now pop across the road. The guys who work there are also very polite and helpful!
-
Fantastic idea!! Just what we need and will save me heading to Brixton, Clapham or indeed Westfield. Good Luck.

A motor cyclist came of his bike around 3:15am this morning just outside The Rose pub. Not sure what happened exactly as only heard the crash, but it didn't seem as though any other vehicle was involved. Hopefully he is ok! This is now the 3 crash on this stretch of road within as many months. Shouldn't Southwark be thinking about installing some kind of speed prevention system (as much as I hate speed bumps)?
