  1. I do believe Champion Hill to be a much wider street (road to house frontage)than most other streets now bearing the brunt of the re-routed traffic. It was always free flowing and did shorten our journey by around 50%, I can still use it coming home, but outbound it is shut to us. It does feel like people are reporting a growing number of traffic problems - to some degree this is the inevitable consequence of the additional volumes of traffic re-routed via these streets either exacerbating or causing some of these issues. After all, it's clear that the impact of this change will be exactly the sum of those journeys, less the people shifted to walking / cycling / foregoing their journey. In my case, we still drive and and have to drive twice as far, at two thirds of the speed to get to the same end goal. As an observation, reading this thread, this does feel like CH versus the rest of the world. That I suppose is inevitable if public roads are allowed to be treated as private roads - with locally advertised consultations with wide-reaching consequences. If I were in Lordship Lane, Melbourne Grove or Adys Road, I would feel a strong motivation to have my street closed to traffic too. I wonder where that would leave us.
  2. We drove to the village every day and the drive was around 10 miutes, versus the route via other roads which is around 20-25 minutes. That?s a lot of additional demand on already stressed routes, and a huge amount of additional fumes. The loss of additional route out and reduced capacity will create disproportionately more traffic jams (the is how networks operate at high stress) and fail more dramatically when there are other road works/ traffic issues on the few remaining routes. No sane person can think this has broad positive impacts for society.
  3. Bagpipes.. It strikes me that there simply hasn't been enough thought given to the consequences of the closure for surrounding streets. What residents deserve is some actual data on key issues: -Officers should give residents of each road where traffic will be displaced an idea of the likely increase in traffic. -Officers should notify the governing bodies of DKH primary and Lyndhurst primary of the likely effect of increased traffic/ pollution on children -pollution levels should be tested on Grove Lane, Dog Kennel Hill before and during the trial period -traffic volumes should be monitored on Grove Lane, DKH and compared before and during the trial period -Officers should publish robust impact assessments of the trial. I could not agree more. Southwark seem to approach traffic management without the faintest idea what makes a properly managed, transparently run experiment, let alone understanding the connectivity of roads and neighbourhoods. I am even more annoyed that there are no clear grounds for how and why they are spending our precious money on nor what are their (our) long term objectives. These ad-hoc ideas must cost hundreds of thousands, if not millions of pounds and are often so idiotic. I totally get that we need to reduce pollution and road use, but a rag tag campaign of road closures just makes traffic far worse and networks more overstressed. Electric charging points and lanes would do the opposite. Can't we start a local party to run against Labour with local objectives rather than politically motivated ones?
  4. Dear all, Southwark have initiated a 6-9 month 'experiment' turning Champion Hill into a one-way street. Unfortunately this is diverting all traffic headed South West, to Dulwich Village and Herne Hill, from North of Goose Green towards your streets. You may not be aware of this upstream change to traffic routing but I believe it to be of significant importance to you. Champion Hill was a wide, sparsely populated and free flowing route towards Denmark Hill, which allowed us a fast, reliable way to bypass your streets. Unfortunately, following the decision to shut this off, we have no choice but to drive the longer, slower route through your neighbourhoods. In keeping with usual Southwark traffic/parking changes there was no consultation outside of the local residents, but I believe this wide-reaching change will force significant amounts of traffic towards you and you may wish to object on the southwark consultation link attached. https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/champion-hill-no-entry-trial-monitoring-form/
  5. guys, has everyone seen the link and taken the time to voice their views on the Southwark feedback link, shown earlier in the thread. I think this change is the worst idea ever and I?m thinking of doing a letter drop through some letter boxes so everyone (including Dulwich residents) can see why their already highly congested traffic has increased so markedly. I?m struggling to see why Southwark want to force these idiotic detours and journey extensions unequivocally raising pollution so much further. We have an electric car and there is bugger all charging or incentives to support this no brainier policy, surely that would be better than endless local plebiscites which people unilaterally declaring their streets as private rather than public domains.
  6. CRANK is now open and it has two new studios offering HIIT and CYCLE. HIIT comprises floor work and cardio and the CYCLE studio offers RIDE and PERFORM classes. It is amazing, a really great way to workout and get sweaty. Brand new showers with towels etc., you just need to turn up. I think they might still be offering introductory taster sessions or discounts on blocks bought. Located at Unit 1, 133 Copeland Road in Peckham, just behind the Bussey building. Definitely worth checking out.
  7. "What's in a name? that which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet". Either whichway, it's nice to see that as per usual this thread is turning into a turf war. It's interesting that despite Lozzyloz's comments, Dulwichites spend so much time discussing adjoining areas. I think some of you might secretly hang around in SE15 for some excitement - Chantelle, were any of the dealers wearing SE22 forum badges?
  8. actually it is in my back garden according to the ordinance surveys - we are still SE15
  9. I know this debate has featured a few times, with people clearly divided between peckham-philes and phobes, and I always find it strange that there are so many dissenters. Mrs Talfourdite and I were very sceptical about moving here because of the Peckham association, but are absolutely in love it having lived here two years. Obviously it is London, so it comes with a health warning, but every night I walk down holly grove, through warwick gardens and down my road I feel overwhelmed with the beauty of the houses and the charm of the area. there is a good feel to the entire area and we have been made to feel enourmously welcome by our neighbours. I like East Dulwich a lot, but wouldn't give up living here for there in a million years. good luck with whatever you do. Spangles, I'm sure you are just playing the pantomime baddy for this website, but it's good to see you are still being as militantly opinionated and generally as unpleasant as ever. p.s. I know you'll be glad to know our IVF twins turned up healthy and happy
  10. thanks for the advice - we had a hot date there last night and it wasn't bad. I'm amazed I haven't heard more about it, the grounds are amazing and it's got a really nice feel about it. food was ok, Mrs T had the dover sole with tempura, which was basically an assorted plate of deep fried stuff which was, truth be told, pretty grim but my steak was fantastic. I'd definitely recommend it for a visit though.
  11. Guys, has anyone been here? I'm thinking about braving it with mrs talfourdite tonight.
  12. Alan, You weren't just crying at getting flummoxed by the samurai were you, you old softy? Mighty Talfourdite
  13. Resilient little guys eh, well they're messing with the wrong guy
  14. We've suddenly been infested with them in two of our rooms' window frames - Derwent, can you let me know if you get any decent info from the pest control, they're sending me nuts! thanks.
