  1. Look forward to seeing Reception starters tomorrow - bring whatever you think you need for an hour or so in the park! Drink, snacks, rug as possible suggestions😉
  2. Don't forget the Heber get together - as stated it is informal, parent led and not in any way part of the official settling in, so don't worry if you can't make it. Due to family circumstances the organiser of the event may not now be able to be there - but will try her best! Let's hope it stays dry.....
  3. As announced at the Reception meeting in early July, Heber's new starter picnic will be on Friday 5 September between 1 and 3, in the dog free part - officially the Arboretum - (picnic tables, trees, fence round!) of Peckham Rye Park. This is an informal, volunteer led and also voluntary event so the children can see the faces they will be seeing in school and the parents can have a chat. We hope you can make it.

  6. Heber Primary School's Summer Fair Sunday 6th July 2014 11.00 - 14.00 The theme of the fair this year is 'Love London' so expect lots of fabulous stalls and games all centred around the theme of our fantastic city! As well as games and stalls for the kids there will be a Pimms & strawberries tent (it is the Wimbledon final later that day after all;-)) and the recreation of 'The Heber Arms' a local pub serving craft beers all the way from local producer Clarkshaws on Barry Road. A cafe selling hotdogs, cakes, tea/coffee and cold drinks. Our lovely, game, teaching staff will take their turns in the London stocks and the unveiling of the London mural, artworked by children of Heber and generously sponsored by Winkwork Estate Agents. Fabulous raffle prizes, many sponsored by the lovely local businesses in and around East Dulwich. Everyone is welcome, especially families of the new reception intake - as well as the fun of the fair, come and find out how the Parents and Friends of Heber support our lovely school and how you can get involved! See you there x
  7. We had a new front wall built in London Stock bricks and to keep the cost down a bit we used half reclaimed and half new. Our brickie did a lovely job laying them in such a way as the new ones blended in with the old.....
  8. Heber Primary School would like to welcome those children offered a Reception place for September, and hope that those on the waiting list are successful. Later this term parents will be invited to school to meet the teachers and go through the starting school process and the school routines. There will also be an opportunity for children to spend an afternoon at school so they can see the classrooms, and meet both the teachers and their new classmates. The P&F (the Parent and Friends charity that supports the school) will organise a social gathering for the new intake, probably in a local park, and weather permitting! In September children new to the school will have a home visit from members of the Reception team so the children can see the teachers in a familiar setting and any particular concerns can be discussed. And early in the new term parents will be invited to workshops on phonics, writing and maths so they can understand what is being taught and how, in order to support the children better. We look forward to meeting the new intake and getting you involved with the Heber community.
  9. That's right MG, raffle drawn towards end of fair, you can buy tickets right up to the draw. Come earlier though, it's going to be a lovely start to the season!

  12. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! We know of at least 5 other local schools having their fair today. Thank goodness for the sunshine...
  13. One day to go! Lying awake at night wondering how we're going to fit two bouncy castles, one giant slide and some inflatable Sumo wrestlers into just one playground area...
  14. Hello to all you fellow hardworking East Dulwich PTA committee members and fair organisers out there! (waves tiredly) It's Summer Fair season for our local schools - this coming Saturday alone there are fairs at Goodrich, Goose Green and here at Heber. If you've got a young family, do come along and check them out - they're a cheap, fun way to spend a few hours, and you get to support your local community schools. You don't need to have a child at the school to attend. Feel free to use this thread to plug your own school's fair - they tend to get a bit lost in the What's On section. For our part, Heber's fair is this Saturday 6 July from 12-3pm at Heber School, Heber Road SE22. We've got a 'Carnival of Nations' theme this year, so in addition to our usual giant inflatables, crazy games and popular cafe, we've got lots of international food, activities and live entertainment, from Jamaican jerk chicken to Japanese calligraphy to Irish dancing. Make a Brazilian-style carnival headdress in our craft area, get your face painted with a flag, have a go at the Las Vegas-themed human fruit machine or hang out in La Guinguette, with its authentic French food, drink and games. There'll be a grand carnival parade just before 3pm led by a Samba-style parent/teacher band, and we'll be giving out spot prizes to children in international dress or carnival outfits. Hope to see you there!
  15. On Saturday 6 July, Heber Primary School is holding its annual summer fair from 12-3pm. This year the theme is ?Carnival of Nations? and the fair will be taking on an international flavour as we celebrate summer with food, music and games from around the world. Expect to see Japanese-style inflatable Sumo wrestling, French boules, Jamaican jerk chicken, Brazilian football games, Irish dancing and a carnival-style grand parade with prizes for the best international-themed costume ? plus a giant slide, two bouncy castles and much, much more! To support this year?s theme, we are looking for local groups with international connections who might be interested in providing a short performance at the fair. Are there any Indian dancers / African drummers / American-style cheerleaders out there who might like to showcase their talents in return for some free publicity? Are there any children or grown-ups who can play the didgeridoo, the sitar or the bagpipes? If so, we?d love to hear from you! Hope to see you at the Fair ? and if you are interested in taking part, please contact news@heberparents.org or PM us on this address.
  16. Just a reminder the open morning is being held this Wednesday. No need to book - just come along and have a look round the school.
  17. OPEN MORNING AT HEBER PRIMARY SCHOOL, Wednesday 22 May, 9.30am to 11am Heber School is one of the most oversubscribed schools in Southwark, but we do have a few spaces in Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6). We are therefore holding an open morning for prospective parents to look around the school and meet the headmaster and members of the Parents & Friends committee. We are on Heber Road, SE22 9LA; we hope you can join us. More info about the school: At our last inspection we were described as a school with a 'successful, relentless and expert focus on improving the quality of teaching and raising pupils' level of achievement'. We maintain this focus by tracking the progress of each and every child in the school with the aim of achieving outstanding progress for all. Our highly experienced staff includes specialist Art and Music teachers; concerts and exhibitions are regular features of school life. To get a flavour of the school please take a look at our website: www.heberprimaryschool.com. Come and visit on the 22nd. You will be struck by the calm, purposeful atmosphere and by children pleased to be in school, eager to learn and whose behaviour reflects our three values: thoughtfulness, resilience and responsibility.
  18. It's a really lovely nursery; both my kids were extremely happy there. Melbourne Groover - when my youngest Blossoms left to start school, I had to be physically extracted from Julie because I couldn't stop crying all over her at the thought of not going back there any more!
  19. Sorry, posted under wrong username!
  20. Just to add our support for shopping locally this Christmas. The Heber School Parents & Friends Association has been asking local businesses to donate raffle prizes for our Christmas fair next Saturday (see the events listings for details) and we have been blown away by the generosity of the local traders on and around the lane. We know times are tough but they have all dug deep and supported their local primary school. We will do a separate post thanking everyone shortly but in the meantime we at the P&F intend to do all our shopping in East Dulwich this year as a more practical way of expressing gratitude!
  21. Reminder that this is this morning. Look forward to seeing you. Heber P&F
  22. Heber Primary School will be holding an Open Morning on 21 November between 9.30 and 11 am. Visitors will be shown around the school in small groups, visiting classrooms, and seeing our art and music rooms. The head teacher and other senior staff will talk about Heber and answer questions, and the P&F will be serving tea and biscuits and offering a parental perspective on our school. You do not need to book. Heber Primary School is on Heber Road, off Lordship Lane. Children are welcome, but we do have lots of stairs so the tour part can be tiring for very little legs! We look forward to welcoming prospective parents and children to the Open Morning. If you have any queries in advance do let us know. Heber P&F
