Does anyone know what the council plans wrt to the trees on Keston Road? There are a number of sings forewarning of works which makes me nervous given that the trees are not that developed...

We had one for our baby girl there - waiting time was about 45 minutes. There's a big waiting room with about 40 people when we went there at around 4pm but they seem to chug through it pretty quickly. The ECG itself took about 20 minutes

Spate of burglaries in East Dulwich
JT76 replied to EastDulwichRose's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
For the 1 mile radius around my property it was from 66 burglaries in Dec 12 to 96 in Jan 13. it is very location dependent however, if you look at the 1 mile radius around the generic se22 postcode the dec-jan movement is not that bad. it appears to be worse towards the north of east dulwich / se22 -

Within a 1 mile radius from my postcode burglaries were up 6% from Dec 11 to Jan 12 versus 46% for the same period Dec 12 to Jan 13. So - a considerable uplift one mile around my property. -

the latest Police stats are out - http://www.police.uk/crime/?q=London%2C+Greater+London+SE22%2C+UK#crimetypes/2013-01 it depends on where you live but within a mile radius of my address burglaries were up 50% in January on December -
this kind of stuff enrages me. why are these people so effing selfish?

i made no comment on relativity to past numbers or indeed relativity to other areas. there are a spate of burgalries ongoing in se22 - that is a fact. whether this a larger or smaller spate is irrelevant in the context of my statement which was anyway only a riposte to the previous assertion that se15 would deter insurers. lighten up!

It's 4.30am and the heathrow flight path appears to be in use
JT76 replied to maxtedc's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
it is a rubbish analogy. builders don't need to start at 4:30. planes coming from the other side of the planet however do need to land early, especially if you don't want to reduce airport capacity. are you planning on banning lorries from driving at 4:30? cars? motorbikes? how much trade and economic activity should be sacrificed because that is what you find reasonable? -

Or: moan about it. That'll stop those planes dead in their tracks. -

Probably don't need to worry about that just yet though do you? -

Move to the country and get lots of lovely sleep. Or stay and deal with the fact the city is a noisy place, the noise being a by-product of the jobs and trade which is the reason people are in London in the first place. The end. -

The counter argument: it's not a new phenomenon; it's a function of living in an international city with all the trade and jobs that opens up for everyone living in London; aircraft noise is voluble across the entire of South London along the path of the Thames given most flights land from that direction; it's much worse the closer you get to Heathrow (i know how much worse Clapham is for example). Perhaps a little perspective is in order - ED is hardly Hounslow is it? -
I got this response on the 19th Oct to my response to the consultation: "Thank you for taking the time to respond to the consultation on the new Thameslink, Southern, and Great Northern franchise. You may already be aware that the Secretary for State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin, announced on 3 October that the Thameslink, Southern, and Great Northern franchise competition has been paused, pending the independent reviews which are designed to ensure that future competitions are robust and deliver best value for passengers and taxpayers. Full details of his announcement may be found at http://www.dft.gov.uk/news/press-releases/dft-press-20121003a/ The level of the response to this consultation was exceptionally high. We are currently studying all responses carefully, and expect to publish a summary of the views expressed in due course. Once again, please be assured that your comments are appreciated and are being considered."

Thanks. Will see if I can get some photos. Their side return is one and a half height storey height. It joins the party wall with our house. The bit I need to get access to is the remaining one and a half storeys from the top of my house - although technically if this is a party wall do they have an obligation to maintain this as well???
-
Hi Wonder if anyone knows the answer to this. My neighbours have a side return to the side of my property, and I need to access the wall above the side return (my wall) to maintain guttering and pointing. Clearly it is not possible to put a ladder down or traditional scaffolding. Anyone know if scaffolding can be cantilevered from one side? Presume this is a relatively common problem here in side return mad ED? Thanks

Does anyone have experience of water accumulators to increase water pressure / flow rates? My plumber is keen on this as a solution to our very weak flow rate (the alternative I believe being to get Thames water to provide a bigger pipe to the mains) and he talks about the benefits of including a water softener as part of this - but does it actually work / is it worthwhile?

Thanks everyone. It was a complete box replacement in hard wood but I am going to see where I can get to some of the leads here

What would people expect for a ballpark figure for a full refit of a single wooden sash window - approximate dimensions of 70cm x 100cm. Have had three quotes in the region of 2k - I knew they were expensive but didn't realise they were that expensive

What a weird thing to say
