Believe me, I'm so on the side of the workers I've had unscrupulous employers, push me to work 12 hour days... I also know when someone is dragging their heels Neither is the case with the people working on our garden I just wanted some advice to see if 7 hrs was reasonable Having never charged for a 7 hour day myself - I'm a freelancer Our charge is a ten hour day, but I don't expect that of someone working in the cold outside However the gardeners working for me are starting around 10-10.30 and finishing around 4 It just seemed to me to be a short day

Thanks for all the advice - good to get a perspective I thought I'd agreed a fixed rate for the job But it wasn't made crystal clear and now the day rate has snuck in Lesson is to set it in stone and be absolutely firm about not accepting a day rate Oh well H Ps to the ' get a grip grump '...I never said I expected an 8 hr day without a break

Hi I?ve recently hired a gardener they are charging me a daily rate I?ve paid for ten days - however they are claiming that 7 hours worked is equivalent of 1 day ? Is this fair or am I being ripped off ? I would have expected 8 hours being a days work minimum Any advice welcome H

Hello I've also witnessed an incident a few months ago Similarly a little girl of the description you gave with a nanny ( young black woman ) in dulwich park and I wonder if it's the same child and nanny I also confronted the nanny, she was shouting down her mobile having a row with a boyfriend I presume and The little girl trailing behind her crying - she leaned down and said something to the child which frightened the girl and she startled and she look terrified. I ran across and immediately told the nanny - you are frightening that child what are you doing? She grabbed the girl and ran off, I was tempted to follow and find out where she lived - but I didn't, given I had my own young son with me Please if anyone else sees this or knows these two Let the parents know. This child could be in danger

Absolutely Dulwich Londoner :-) The migration of people to an area I think is mainly driven by the desire to Be near people who look, sound and dress like them There's a mob/pack, mediocre mentality that's crept into London... I don't think it's just about house prices But rather greedy mundane people are attracted to each other. The fear of difference seems to be making its way back into our society

Aw Jeremy, sorry you don't understand satire

Moved to Honor Oak, much, much better rail links with both Crofton Park and Honor Oak and the East London Line. Spoilt for choice. Also with the homogenisation of East Dulwich, now populated by aspirational Lookalikes, we sold up ( for a huge profit ) and got out :-) Honor Oak is more diverse and a much friendlier neighbourhood. Also much better and bigger properties. It's probably no secret anymore and I'm sure Honor Oak will attract all the robots now, and we'll be beset with pale green picketfences and shutters :-/ and spiralling house prices ( rubs hands with glee)

Yes I saw a young woman in the vets just after - appears to be the same incident She didn't speak good English so doubly traumatic She was inconsolable

Yes fair enough ...aren't people suppose to stop at crossings and wait for traffic to slow down ...but there seems there's some grey area here around how to use these crossings ... I've seen men ( less often women ) with children walk straight out despite moving traffic having to screech to a halt
