  2. I agree! That is such a great cycling route. I used to cycle most of it to work and it was a higlight of my day. And there are some great places to stop, get off your bike and enjoy the view over a cold drink. Cycle up to the old cemetery in Nunhead on the way. It's beautiful and so peaceful. Have fun on your bike!
  3. Yes, East Dulwich has it's own doppleganger in this big ol' world. It's a lovely street in Beijing called Nanluogu Xiang. It's a trendy, busy little 'highstreet' (actually a hutong) and it is packed with twee, quirky gift shops, clothes boutiques, and cafes, plus lots of chinese (rather than Indian) restaurants. Today we have been sitting in Three Trees Cafe sipping an East Dulwich priced cappuccino (2pounds50) - and sharing a slice of cheesecake that looks and tastes suspiciously like the one in Luca's bakery. On a points scoring system what's on offer here in this little coner of Beijing ranks a wee bit above E.D. but scores aren't everything. We have been travelling now for almost three months (having lived in e.d. he 2 years and me 5 years) and we MISSSSSSS London. We miss wandering down Lordship Lane, and we miss the people. Here's to happy travelling, and to realising just how great home is. Tina
  4. Ooops, always read the whole thread!!! Wow, great to find a few lovely b&b's are cropping up in the area - just in time for me to move out! Left my parents there one night last year, but felt sooooo guilty cause despite very friendly, very nice owners and staff it was pretty grim. Needs a serious bit of TLC before I could recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere to stay.
  6. I'm moving home and have a broken printer and digibox that I don't want to just heave onto a tip. Is there anywhere locally where you can responsibly get rid of unwanted or broken electrical items? Or batteries come to think of it. Or paint? Advice would be appreciated, Cheers, Tina
  7. It was actually outside my bedroom window. My boyfriend heard the screams and leapt out of bed to run to the window. Saw a guy chasing him off down the road. Nasty....
  8. If you feel like a nice, grown up, sophisticated alternative to the 'grime' of e.d. nightlife it might well be worth giving Luca's Bakery up by Moxons a try. It's now open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening 'til 11pm. They serve wine and beer, and also do lovely Prosecco. In terms of food there are nice cold meat and cheese platters, nuts, olives etc... It's a nice place to share a bottle of wine with a friend if you don't feel like yelling at each other across a beer stained table, or you're not up for queueing at the bar for a good half an hour on a Friday night.
  9. I have had to go to Kings A&E three times (plus once to emergency dental) and have had a really great experience every time. I really appreciate having this facility practically on the doorstep and think the guys there do the most amazing job, often under really difficult circumstances. A huge thank you to all at Kings that work so hard xxx :))
