Certainly when I've needed something like Nurofen or allergy tablets desperately in the middle of the night I have been able to get hold of them.
  2. Y'all should try living in Bethnal Green....

  4. Being a veggie I actually thought the roast at The Crown and Greyhound was good! At least in comparison to most ED ones but then it was probably a nut roast out of a packet. Best reasonably priced pub roast I've had in London, perhaps ever, is at a pub in Hackney called the Kenton. Delish and used to be under a tenner. Bigges food disappointment has been Franklins, rated very highly but I find them quite meaty (husband loves it) and their veggie options a bit uninspired.

Delicious cakes in Le Chandelier and SiMangia is tasty but ambiance is a bit too old school for my liking. Prefer to go to Camberwell or Brixton really.
  6. Atheism for all :) (and cycling!)
  7. Just because he/she didn't have a huge set up doesn't mean anything - natural light is a very powerful thing and most modern food photography is entirely naturally lit. That said I wasn't there so didn't see what the food looked like etc and I do agree about their general crapness. Went to the Clockhouse once and just felt so 'meh' about the whole place we left after two drinks. 8. For me a decent independent stationers/art shop, there was a great one on Bethnal Green Eoad when I lived there, the kind with lots of paper, weird but useful stuff. I'd also like to see more restaurants that I felt more than 'meh' about.

Sorry but who would pay more tax? Surely businesses wishing to make a difference would be better off maki g direct charitable donations?
  10. There's (or was judging by this article) a sex shop in Kings Cross called Pirate Shop, I guess they mixed the R and the I. Still, I liked to imagine it sold pieces of eight and dark rum. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=pirate+shop+kings+cross&hl=en&client=safari&tbo=d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=qfvCUIHrGoXV0QWrsYHQBQ&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1024&bih=672#biv=i|0;d|0wJPXMPh3GaC2M:
  11. My OH has Vodaphone as his work phone and apparently it's due to a crane in this area? No idea where though - the ,sat sounds more likely

Hey, only their patron not their accountant. it was regularly packed for key films though and a nice idea in principle.
  13. I love the idea in principle - a great example is Rich Mix in Bethnal Green, which also has a bar, live music, comedy and hosts debates and talks AND can be hired for events but to my mind the fact that ED is hardly a 'hub' would suggest a problem. Brixton as an example, although the cinema has helped massively with the gentrification of the area, has always had a busy high street with high street name shops and a big department store, a tube station etc and ED doesn't have this. the top end of Brick Lane where Rich Mix sits is a hugely popular destination, it's also close to offices in Shoreditch and the Northern part of the City, so footfall is naturally higher.
  14. I'd love to see a proper Mexican restaurant ala Lupita/Wahaca etc, or even a burrito place. Buts that's because I am greedy. There's Casa Morita in Brixton Village Market, that's pretty cool. I have to say - shock horror, poke me with sticks etc - that having lived in Bethnal Green/Hackney for the past 5 years, and been here only 6 months, I find the restaurant scene a bit meh. I haven't had a meal I've loved, even at Franklins, which i know is the darling of the LL scene.
  15. I have to agree with all the others here. You only walk past for a matter of seconds, and he can't be heard from the platforms so quit worrying about it.
  16. I used to work in OC but fortunately lived in Bethnal Green, cycling between the two was a breeze and I haven't really cycled since living here as I now work in Acton (hate it). Whilst living in Bethnal Green I used to cycle to Kennington Park too and I always found the the E&C a challenge. Everytime "shit, shit, shit" was my internal monologue and Vuaxhall is much easier due t the cycle paths that help guide you round the junction and onto the bridge. Anyway, I digress, if I was to cycle that way I'd go along LL and up Dog Kennel Hill (or round via Peckham for flatness), through Camberwell, Vauxhall, turn right by the River and past the Tate Britain and New Scotland Yard. Through Trafalgar square, up Charing Cross and through Soho. You've got me all nostalgic for my days of working near civilisation now...
  17. We are also registered with John Hankinson who is great, and I've only used Neighbourhood to order in some specialist food for one of our cats but they sound very good and well worth a try.
  18. I for one would love this - I sometimes use HOP to get to East London/Islington etc or back from London Bridge and not only is the hill a killer (the lazy reason) but after dark the area near One Tree Hill is actually quite deserted and frightening for a woman walking back by herself. It would be better all round if the 63 went up the hill or to the Station - there's no direct route at all at the moment from Honor Oak Park to near the Herne Tavern.
  19. All it says on TFL is that it's late 2012, I'm desperate for it as it will cut my lengthy journey to Shepherd's Bush/Acton in two.
  20. You'd need a bigger trap! It was a beast :) On a more serious note, waiting for the arrival of the new Microchip cat flap...
  21. First of all apologies for the somewhat ridiculous post title. :) We've been in ED for just over a month now and have two cats who access the garden through our cat flap, but on at least four occasions one of my cats has been chased into the house and through the flap by an unseen creature of some kind. Much snarling and puffed up fur has ensued, and it's woken us up in the middle of the night each time. This evening, about 20 mins ago the same thing happened but we caught the cat in our kitchen having chased our oldest and quite fat cat into the kitchen. It was an absolutely huge ginger Tom cat, who proceeded to freak out and thrash around the kitchen, destroying a few plates in the process. We shut him in the bathroom for a minute or two until he calmed down enough to be let out. Don't worry he was completely unscathed and received a calming stroke from my husband. I suppose I wanted to warn any other cat owners in the St Aidan's, Upland and Marcus Garvey Mews area to ensure their cat flaps are either locked at night or that they are the kind operated by a collar or microchip, or potentially warn the owner that this is occurring regularly.
  22. Thanks Thomas. I'm a veggie (not a vegan) and it would be nice to know about anywhere particularly veggie friendly.
  23. So far I follow the actress, the bishop, franklins and eatsdulwich. Going to look at some of these other suggestions. I probably tweet too much day to day rubbish but I am a wedding photographer who moved to the area about a month ago. Tweeting about shoots and sharing my work I'm @elliegphotophy
