  1. Spider69 I am very flattered you are taking a lot of your own personal time to read my posts, however I am slightly hurt, that you assume I want a CPZ??? I don?t want a cpz, you may be confused re my last thread. I was being sarcastic. Hope that?s clarified this issue. I have also posted a recommendation, would you like to integrate that into this thread. 😁
  2. Spider69 Why are you taking my post from another thread and quoting it here. It?s 2 different posts. Are you confused ?????
  3. MMM ok, lets get a CPZ because the residents in the roads by the station are fed up with commuters parking up on their roads. Thats fair isn't it!!!!!!!!! Seriously
  4. stoo31, We the local retailers chat with each other, we have a real community of retailers, who like to discuss local issues with each other. When Southwark council threatened to fine us for "blocking the main thoroughfare" about 4 years ago, we did our own research, looked at the boundaries on our deeds, which confirmed the private land in front of the shops belonged to the retail outlets. Hopefully that has satisfied your curiosity. :)
  5. Hi James Are the residents of Elsie Rd, Melbourne grove and the roads adjacent to the station, asking for the CPZ? 6. A boards are permitted on the private part of the land pertaining to the shop. You will find the A boards in East Dulwich are located appropriately without blocking peoples pathways.
  7. Great Idea, there are stores on Lordship Lane who have refilling stations for Washing up liquid, Fabric Conditioner and washing liquid, for clothes. The brands available for Refill are Bio D and Ecoleaf. Participating shops are Eco shop Caravan, SMBS and Healthmatters Healthstore. All bottles are welcome. In 2008 I was part of a Community group called SNUB, with Cleaner, Greener Safer funding from Southwark council, we made and distributed 14000 Hessian and cloth bags in the East Dulwich area. I still see those bags being used, which makes us very happy. We also received Lottery funding to build edible gardens in 5 local schools, with the help and sponsorship of local builders Mc Govern Design and Build, we are happy to see the schools are using the gardens, and have extended them. I look forward to ED becoming plastic free, It would be great if the local coffee shops gave their customers an incentive to bring their own keep cups. Good Luck
  8. I am a retailer and have just read some of the posts relating to the local retailers and the CPZ. I cannot speak for all of us, however because we have an amazing community of retailers who talk to each other, re local issues. I can assure you the CPZ will affect the retailers, Visitors and trades visiting the area. Re the thread re parking outside peoples drives on Ashbourne grove, I really cannot understand where you are coming from??? East Dulwich have parking enforcement officers from 7am til 6pm. If they are not controlling the northbound bus lane, they are enforcing penalties on cars parked on double yellow lines, dropped kerbs and parking bay. We are always trying to warn drivers not to park at certain times, its up to them, if they want to take chance and leave their car parked illegally. Their responsibilities, not ours. I have mentioned this before and I will say it again, we fought the last attempt of bringing in a CPZ and we will do it again. CPZs do mot guarantee parking outside your home.
  9. Really James!!!!! Are you seriously trying to resurrect this dead horse??? Or CPZ??? If the good people of East Dulwich, want to pay for a parking permit, and assume they will have any possibility of parking outside their house, then good luck with that. Why are you continuously pushing this James Barber, I am so disappointed with the councillors of East Dulwich, so happy to be living in croydon.:)
  10. The previous occasion when the CPZ threatened to rear its unwanted head, it was rejected. I recall there was an East Dulwich councillor who encouraged the CPZ, was that James Barber? There will always be the minority who feel they should be able to park outside their own home, then there are the realistic residents, who know an on street parking space does not come with their house. East Dulwich has been a destination area for a few years now, and parking will always been an issue, for the residents, traders, visitors and shoppers. I have seen many residents double park and unload, its the world we live in today. If you want the privilege of parking outside your home, may I suggest moving to a quiet little hamlet in the middle of wiltshire, or buy a house with off street parking. :)
  11. Hi Calsug All merchants charge differently, your research is clearly based on the average rate, most merchant services are no longer run by banks, they are mainly independently run. A majority of the merchant services charge from end of day banking to using the telephone line, for connection to the banks. A majority of businesses will use a broadband connection, however there are shops who still use the phone line to connect. There are a lot of hidden charges and if you want, when I have more time, I can give you a breakdown of all the charges. The point I was trying to make re the minimum charge and the 89p is, we do have a minimum charge for a reason, to deter purchases of very small amounts. I would never dream of using a card to buy milk, or bread or single items, I always have cash on me, I know more and more businesses are going cashless, however its just not an option for all of us.;} Calsug Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You can tell I?m not busy today... according to > merchantmachine.co.uk the transaction cost is > around 1.75% for a debit card. So that?s about > 0.015 p for an 89p transaction. I don?t know if > there are an other costs to factor in though?? > > > Edit - ignore rubbish maths and see below...
  12. As retailers we do absorb the costs of bank charges, with some shops they will have a ?5 minimum spend on cards, to stop people from buying a bar of chocolate for 89p with a card!!!!!! The most common charges we are faced with are the charge per transaction, its 30p per debit and 60p per credit. There is a misconception that contactless payments carry no charge for the retailers, that is not true. I always carry change and a ?5 note, for small transactions, I do this out of respect for the independent retailers, who are charged for everything from getting change for the shop float to paying in cheques.
  13. I knew my post would attract the nee sayers or the believers. The majority of the forumites only have the Tv programme most haunted to go by, which is ignored and not taken seriously by the Spiritualist and mediums. I see spirits, It happens randomly when the spirit wants to chat. I dont walk around with equipment to take pictures or record spiritual activity to build up evidence for my ability. You don't want to believe, then fine. I am not here to convert, just to share my experiences.
  14. Good explanation Louisa, I can see earth bound spirits, we have a couple of spirits at home, they appear, have a chat then disappear. The doubters and the open minded sceptics always have a "reasonable explanation" to why Spirits don't exist. However they do, and more often then not, spirit just wants to have a chat. Best place for spiritual activity is one tree hill, we often go there. If anyone is interested in an outing to one tree hill, pm me. :)
  15. I have never understood why bins are used to save parking spaces, I know parking is now premium in East Dulwich, and I am forever circulating round the roads looking for a space. However if I saw a bin being left on the road deliberately for parking, then you may see me move it and use the space myself. There are some lovely storage containers you can put in the front garden space, iv seen them on the East Dulwich Rd, where the pavements are very narrow.
  16. Hi Sue I understand what you mean, I had the same issue with my local collect plus (Shirley), and told them they needed to let collect+ know, they were not able to take large or heavy parcels. They started taking large parcels from me after that.
  17. Its being refitted. Not closing down
  18. My hubby was in the building trade for 20 years, before he was diagnosed with epilepsy. In his time when the congestion charges came in, his firm use to charge the clients the congestion charge fees, by ways of adding to the bill. It worked for both building firm and client. My hubby's firm use to do a lot of work in town and were based in Peckham. I think its swings and roundabouts, difficult to see tradesman cycle to work if they are in their vans every ten minutes, looking for tools and materials, or having 20 minute tea break. :)
  19. Great Job Suej, I am sure the Salvation army were very happy to see your donations. Happy New year.
  20. I live near Beckenham, the lights on the high street are lovely, and Penge High street lights are also really nice. We have been on at the council to change the Xmas lights for years, we have been told they have no money in the budget. The money for the proposed banners comes from Cleaner, Greener fund. Chambers of commerce should get involved, however as far as I know nothing has happened yet. We use to have a South Southwark traders association, which was more or less run by Lawrence white, we all had a part to play. My role alongside Ed from the Ed warehouse ( Now the brick house) on Zenoria street was to try and get the council to give us money for better lighting, road signage and Christmas lights. In our role we also had the task of trying to raise money for the banners, and the maintenance of the banners. At that time (7 years ago) we were told by council officials that the banners would not be sustainable, because of costs. Unfortunately we achieved very little because the council did not and could not help us. our local councillor at the time was Richard Thomas, who was very helpful.
  21. Great News Nxjen.
  22. Billy is Brilliant, highly recommended.:)
  23. Thanks Suzanne, very helpful.
  24. Hi Guys I just made a donation at https://www.pecan.org.uk/southwarkfoodbank. I spoke to the food bank and they are happy to receive donations through their just giving page. They have raised ?1545 so far, the target is ?6000. Lets help them achieve their target, :)
  25. Gaynor you are an angel for helping the gentlemen, now I know he has the facilities to cook I will drop some shopping off for him. Unfortunately in this day and age, homelessness is quite common. Its on the news on a daily basis, as a community I think its a good idea we help this gentleman.
