One hour free parking in the area...
monica replied to easytiger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As someone who works in ED and lives in woodvale, I try to be mindful of where I park, when coming to work. I do walk to work, however in the winter months, I will drive, and I do work until 9pm on a couple of evenings a week so I will drive to work. The world would be a perfect place, if we could park outside our own homes, however that is no longer an option, unless you have off street parking. We as ED need to realise while we believe we do live in this great place, and those who want too live in this great place, there are compromises, which is parking. Parking outside your own home is now a luxury. Restricted parking will not make any difference, in my opinion. I believe they are trying to introduce restricted parking, because very shortly ED picture house will be opening, which will impact parking, moreso at the weekends. -
.. Have edited post re latest news re Rev charles. Utterly unbelievable, I knew him for years, and always thought he was a very kind man. Speechless.

I suggest you speak to someone who has lived in both the south and North of Italy, oh that would be me. You are being stereo typical about the Italians. Italians are very open with their food, they share their passion for food with everyone who wants to learn about Italian cuisine. We have regional dishes, in Venice we have risotto, In Brindisi, game. We share and we love. Lets get back on topic now folkes, this thread as gone way off topic. Grazie -

Burro e Salvia is coming to East Dulwich
monica replied to burroesalvalnd's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Benvenuti Burro E Salvia, Its great we have another Italian opening up. Being Italian of course I am going to be biased, however I think the great collection of shops Italian, French, Asian and of course British restaurants is a great testament, to East Dulwich. Buona Fortuna -
Looking forward to trying La Scala, great we have another Italian place in the area, not that I am biased. Love the french cafes, but you cannot beat the italians, when it comes to food:)

Could we ban single use carrier bags in ED?

alice Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Did SNUB make any difference? > > How much did it cost? Hey Alice Im Monica from SNUB. In 2007 we received funding from Southwark council, Greener, Cleaner Safer, to produce reusable bags, for East Dulwich and Dulwich Wards. The iniative did have an impact, and today in 2014, I still see the SNUB bags being used. Great stuff. A lot of the local independents have produced their own bags, including my own store, and I do see a lot of shoppers on the lane, with their own bags. Back in 2010, we carried out a survey, to see how much of an impact, our campaign had locally, and with the collated figures, I am proud to say, we discovered at least 60% of the East Dulwich shoppers were using their own bags. SNUB is a local community group, however there is only me now, and because I work full time, I can only do so much. I am currently working with 2 schools, installing edible gardens and teaching the school children how to grow their own veg. Local gardener Jane Booth is project managing and teaching the Children at Francesca Cabrini. Nigel Hawkins is working at Dulwich wood, formerly Langbourne. SNUB also installed the gardens at goose green school, Goodrich, Summerhouse and St Anthonys in 2010. Mc Govern Design and Build made and installed all the raised beds, for free in all the schools, except St Anthonys. Edited for typo -
Hi welcome to Woodvale, I live just by the Melford Rd roundabout, and its great, I love Woodvale. The bus connections are great, 363 every 10 mins. P13 from Underhill rd. Butchers and convenience store are an absolute saviour. Forest Hill station and town centre are great. Re the cemetery we were walking through one day, and there was a funeral, and the pastor had decided to park on a grave????? Ever so slightly disgusted, I asked what he was playing at, and he just walked off, ignoring me. I do think a lot of the people using the cemetery, are respectful, however some users are very disrespectful.

Police Saturday afternoon lordship lane
monica replied to dimples's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We heard the shouting from work, and the next minute a lady walked in and said the police were beating the guy around the head. Then my colleague asked the police, who were hanging outside my work place, and they said a man had been arrested, for theft. It did sound pretty awful, where we were, and I do feel for the young lad, I hope your son is ok now. -
MPC owner's wife is french, French house seems nice inside. Decor is nice, I dont drink coffee, and I am not a big cheese lover, so Im afraid my visits, wont be as frequent, as my visits to Gails :)yum

London's skinniest home! (Denmark Hill)
monica replied to Supernanny*'s topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Does look nice, theres a very similar one on Woodvale, just as you pass Hornimans, after the council flats. If you blinked, you would miss it. Quite a contrast to all the large houses on the vale. -
Really sorry to hear about your cat. We live on Woodvale, and lately we have had kids on their scooters/motorbikes racing up and down the vale. Dont know, if this is relevant, however I know that whole area has a very high traffic of motorbikes and scooters, racing around. Wanted to report it to someone, not sure who too, though. Apologies if that does not help.

I echo other posts re good councillors losing out, real shame about Robin Crookshankhilton. Great councillor, who supported and helped a lot of the community projects. Happy to see we still have James Barber, congratulations James

Looking forward to seeing the outcome, and hopefully it will be a real French cafe, with traditional french food :)

The site reminds me of Lordshiplane.co.uk, dont know if anyone remembers it, but it did not really take off, then the EDF was founded. Personally I dont think its going to work, but hey thats my opinion.

Car parks in ED??? We dont need a car park in ED, we want the community to be a more pedestrian friendly community. Car parks attract all sorts of problems. Although I do remember a few years ago, before Foxtons joined our community, we were suggesting a car park on the land. Park up and walk, or take the bus, we have a great bus service, serving ED, the Village, Nunhead and Forest Hill.

Yes I agree with most of the above, leave Facebook out of the forum, it does not need it

Hey, im also on woodvale and agree with getting Woodvale resurfaced. We have a lot of lorries who use Woodvale,as a thoroughfare, and lots of different building sites going on at the moment on the road. Great road, which needs some TLC.

Does anyone else have poor signal near the Horniman?
monica replied to Supernanny*'s topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I live on Woodvale, and I have had continuos problems with my 02 connections. Decided to get a landline with my virgin contract, which works very well. Yes the lovely surroundings of the Hornimans do make up for the lack of mobile phone connection. -

Advice about ground rent (local average costs)
monica replied to rye_lass's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I pulled out of buying a leasehold, before I purchased my share of Freehold, because of the amount of clauses attached to the leashold, and the prospect of the decreasing leashold, over the years. With the leashold I went as far as Solicitor sending me the draft lease, then seeing the 2 pages of clauses. I would look into seeing if there is a prospect of buying the freehold. Good luck
