  1. Sightings of turtles actually tend to be terrapins, usually the red-eared slider variety which are sold by pet shops around the size of a two-penny piece (cute!) and then grow to size of large tea plate ( not so cute). Used to be a large population in docklands as they outgrew their cuteness following the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fad. "Heroes in a half-shell!"

  3. I. too, have experienced poor service at the Herne, soon after it reopened in its present incarnation. After waiting an unreasonable length of time, I got out a notebook and started making notes looking frequently at my watch , tutting loudly; meal arrived within 5 minutes, obviously the stimulation of a possible bad review was needed! We have not returned to experience the service again; sad to hear that it hasnt improved.
  4. My Mum always told me ... 'Long and thin goes right in, short n thick does the trick .....'
  5. On blunt knives, my mum used to explain " you could ride bare-arsed to London on this" other family faves inc "its the mutts nuts" "were you born a wanker or did u train?" " couldn't organise a gang-bang in a brothel" "dingbat"
  6. As a mature trainee teacher doing my second placement I was told on my arrival that I was being totally unrealistic expecting " pleases and Thank you's" as kids just dont do 'em these days. My reply was that these were my standards and I wasnt lowering them, I get please's and Thank you's even if I have to remind kids for them , often accompanyied by " sorry Miss". Just a small step in the war I know, still have to deal with all the other incidents of rudeness and lack of respect. Its all very well parents complaining that teachers arent teaching their kids, if they taught them to respect adults and not to answer back or talk when they're talking in the first place! This has been my experience in both an independent ( local ) girls school and a middle-class boys comprehensive! On a personal level if visiting children misbehave at my house they get asked to stop and told that their behaviour is unacceptable. Rant over!
  7. Must admit this thread has conjured up images of razor rashes in all sorts of areas .. pustulating pimples instead of baby smooth skin! Also what happens about regrowth, surely materials of a rougher texture need to be avoided due to the "velcro effect" .... and then that leads to the subject of intimate tattoo's.........
  8. " Always remember to take time to be kind to yourself"
  9. Dulwichflower Only you can make the decision. I can only say that it takes guts and determination to change track, so make sure its something you want to do. Thats from someone halfway through their teacher training , and having been a theatre sister in a previous existence, two careers divided by a spell as housewife and mother .......... sometimes I think I'm a stress junkie!
  10. In a previous lifetime as a theatre sister, "the Lion Sleeps tonite" was known as the gynaecology song .... altogether now " ........... a womb away , a womb away"
  11. RosieH Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'm contemplating a merkin shop. I could do pink > / floral if that's what the kids want Can I place an order please ........... turquoise in small thanks
  12. my first post was a gripe against bad manners and I never introduced myself, profuse apologies to one and all! Was a silent observer for a while until the urge overtook my self control, and I'd wake in the wee ( well doesnt everyone of a certain age?) small hours with the register icon flashing in my mind , I fought hard, but eventually gave in to the compulsion which is now the EDF ...
  13. Agree with potatoes and onions: think my other three would be peas, asparagus and either courgettes or marrows in case Man Friday doesnt turn up!
  14. Lol, am fully aware that there is a Dad's and Toddlers sess friday afternoons and therefore choose to go elsewhere if I'm lucky enough to get the chance to drink on a Friday afternoon! Was a weekend when I visited! Had stopped using the clockhouse cos it became too creche -like at the weekends, perhaps it's time to become a regular again, ta muchly for the info!
  15. Have to agree with Azul, went for a quiet drink in the Plough recently, only to walk into a creche! As a mother myself , its not the presence of children I object to; rather the fact they are allowed to run unsupervised , making as much noise as they like! It is inconsiderate towards others and rather bad mannered, I always took stuff to amuse and distract mine so they did not disturb others. All common courtesy really!
