East Dulwich pubs ? intolerable music volume
JimmyMc1311 replied to Fitzgeraldo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Loads of pubs now go for the wooden floors and few soft furnishings look so music, clanking cutlery, crying children (and adults!) can seem much louder than before. Apart from a couple of chesterfield sofas in The Cherry Tree masking the sound, I find that to be the loudest pub around. The Bishop comes at a close second, but I like the noisy atmosphere in both those pubs. Nothing worse than drinking in a morgue. But totally appreciate the OP's comments. -
On the SE4 Facebook forum, a similar story happened last night just up the road in Brockley. A Chinese delivery guy had his bike stolen when he was doing a delivery. It was also 3 lads who done it. Coincidence?
-
Sandi Toksvig also frequents the Brockley Jack in Brockley. Ok, it's not East Dulwich, but only a mile away as the crow flies. I was starstruck...

Sandi Toksvig was also in the Brockley Jack pub last week. She didn't smile at me though...

East Dulwich Station Passenger Numbers 1998-2015
JimmyMc1311 replied to ed_pete's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I used to always use East Dulwich station but the trains were getting so packed going in to London Bridge that my stress levels were going through the roof. I now walk up to Peckham Rye and go to work via Victoria instead of London Bridge. It's not perfect, and rarely do I get a seat, but at least I'm not in a sardine can. -
Thanks for your advice folks. Our neighbours and us are both end of terraces and there is a gap of about 3 ft between our properties. None of their scaffolding touches ours, but our phone line crosses over their roof and that's where the problem has arisen. BT rang my mobile this morning, and God love them, they are going to send a 'cherry lift' so hopefully they can make the necessary repairs. If not....cant' imagine a Christmas without wifi...especially as the lil one is getting his first iPad.

Dear all, Can anyone help me with some advice? I've trawled through the net but struggling to find the correct information. Like many streets in our neighbourhood, there is lots of attic conversions, roof fixing and general building work going on on our road. The problem I have is that next door is having a roof conversion and it 'appears' that their scaffolding has slit our BT cable in two rendering us having no phone line and *scream* broadband. Their builders deny it was them even though BT say that it was them as their scaffolding is inches away from our sorry telephone line which is now hanging in two. It does appear a huge coincidence that the telephone line would just snap right in the middle of their scaffolding.... Anyway, I don't really care how it happened. I just want it fixed so I can get back to 'Orange is the new black' etc on Netflix. BT will only fix it when their scaffolding comes down. However next door says that their scaffolding is going to be up for at least the next three months. Does any lovely person have any advice? Cheers all

P13 bus during rush hour and school run
JimmyMc1311 replied to tomskip's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Cheers! -
A little bit off topic (OK a lot), but I remember one Sunday afternoon during Wimbledon fortnight, we were sitting having a pint outside the Bishop. And a car slowed down in front of us. And in the back of the car was....."drum roll"....Maria Sharapova!

P13 bus during rush hour and school run

This question got me thinking a bit. Why is called the P13? I assume there is a bus 13 somewhere, but what does the P stand for? Peckham? -
Sadness at changing atmosphere of East Dulwich
JimmyMc1311 replied to vanstone's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'll bet you a jug of tap water from the Victoria Inn and a portion of halloumi sticks that it might go longer... -
Why do people do such a thing? So infuriating.

A friend of mine had their card cloned about a year ago and 3 x ?300 was taking out on three consecutive days. They also suspected that it was that same cashpoint at Tesco Express on the East Dulwich Road. To be honest thought hat282, only your bank will be able to tell you where it happened for sure. If it helps, my card was cloned about 5 years and ?1400 on my credit card went to a ' bts trading company, Lagos, Nigeria'!Don't worry though, although it's a pain in the butt, you should be fully reimbursed in about ten days time. Hope that helps.

Cheers Maxxi! I'll sleep well in bed tonight knowing that you and your bro took care of Foxy. Not sure about the green jumpsuit though.....
-
No wings, saddles or glacier mints. Just the fox. And no bingo card either.
-
lol - maybe he was well hung or maybe he was hung like a newt, but he was a big bloody fox! And he was defintely not an alsation. The peroni was good, but it was only peroni and not class A drugs of any kind.....

Hi all, After a fab night out on Lordship Lane last night, our cab dropped us off on the Nunhead side of Peckham Rye where we live at just after midnight. I admit that we had consumed a few pints of peroni, but as we arrived at our front door, THE BIGGEST FOX THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN, jumped out of our front garden bush, eyeballed us, then walked cheefully down Somerton Road. I am not joking, it was massive, about the size of a fully grown alsation dog! I know that city foxes are pretty much the norm, but has anyone seen this particular fellow? HUGE!!!

Any one see a car accidents on lordship lane today ?

Hear Hear LadyDeliah! I couldn't have put it better myself. Tom_Tom, good luck with getting everything sorted. Sorry you had to read the usual hysterical comments that others type in this forum. -
East Dulwich is fab. The people are friendly , the bars and restaurants are cool and it is a great place to live. Just don't pay attention to the neurotic yummy mummy's who spout nothing but venom on this forum. They know who they are.

Oh dear...what have I started? Look guys, my comments were made because I have had so many nice afternoons and evenings spoiled by screaming children. If my partner and I are out in Lordship Lane, enjoying a couple of bottles of wine and a nice meal, is it too much to ask that we can enjoy this without toddlers running up to us, or kids screaming in our ears? If I wanted to be in a place where there were screaming children, I'd have gone to a fast food outlet, TGI's or Planet Hollywood. My post was nothing against Mums and Dad's being in pubs. It was simply to ask them to hire a baby sitter if they are going out on the lash. Do children and alcohol mix? Does anyone really think it's acceptable seeing a parent having a few glasses of wine then watch them steer their buggy out of the pub giggling and tripping because they've had a few? I know that this post has caused a bit of controversy, but I feel so much better now that I've said my bit! Cheers (Hic)

Some pubs do it well and actually hide the kids at the back. It's great. Almost like that wonderful city in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.I would however politely disagree with Chantelle when she says that children are'welcomed' in the majority of pubs. Maybe the bigwigs at the top of the brewery chain might welcome kids, but the rolling eyes of the barstaff, and those of the other adults who up until then were having a good time would disagree when the peace and calm is shattered by screams and cries.

I saw Julia "Miss World 2011 is...." Morley in Sainsbury's a couple of weeks ago. But then, she does live in Dulwich. I've never seen her in Morrison's Peckham though....

55 - 65 year olds - where do they go?

Are any other adults getting a bit sick of pubs being filled to capacity with yummy mummies and their darling little offspring? I always grew up thinking that pubs were places where adults socialised but last Saturday afternoon in LL, 3 separate pubs (and also the lovely Rye!) were like an advertisement for Mothercare. Prams and buggies everywhere and toddlers running about as if they were in the playpark. So my message to the yummy mummies...if you are going to spend an afternoon in LL with your girlfriends drinking the pub out of chardonnay, please please please hire a babysitter!
