Yep a lot of festivals also put people in touch with others for car sharing options. There are generally people happy to take an extra passenger or two for help with the petrol money.

I've never owned a car in the 25 years I've lived in London. I would regard it as a hopeless waste of money I walk, get public transport and taxis for the rare occasions when public transport won't cut it. Anything large that needs to be transporting to or away from my property - well pretty much all shops deliver and for anything else there is always someone who willing do it for a small fee. If I need a car to go somewhere outside of London (you would be surprised at how little this issue occurs) then hire cars exist.

What do you need a solicitor for? What advice do you/they need? Only the courts or the tenants can end a tenancy, the landlord can only require possession. If it is a section 21 that is a "no fault" eviction, meaning the landlord simply wants their property back vacant. If it is a section 8 it means the landlord requires possession because of rent arrears or some other kind of breach of the tenancy agreement. If there is no notice then it is potentially an illegal eviction. TBH the council are probably likely to advise they stay put until the courts evict them, but that could result in them being allocated emergency accomodation - which could be outside of Southwark and possibly a hotel room or hostel. As you will be very much aware council housing is rarer than hens teeth in inner London so I would advise this family not to pin thejr hopes on that, they would better off trying to find somewhere more stable to rent privately.

Lordship Lane Post Office Closure
Cyclemonkey replied to Lyra123's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It would help if they opened times when most people needed them. I had to send a parcel yesterday and Forest Hill post office was unexpectedly closed. I ended up going to Sydenham, even though Lordship lane was on my way for other shopping as the Lordship Lane PO it closes at 1pm on a Saturday. -
Rules re under 18s being in pubs?
Cyclemonkey replied to 3masons's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That will often be a licence condition set by the council. -
Lordship Lane Post Office Closure
Cyclemonkey replied to Lyra123's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The main problem Post Offices have, IMO, is they are generally a sub optimal experience and don't really deliver services in the way people want or need these days. I always dread having to use one as you know it will be time consuming and annoying. -

May be it is a Council plot to stop you leaving East Dulwich. -

Bus, walk, cycle? We live in a very walkable city with amazing public transport. Yes not everyone can do that, but many currently driving can. -
You googled tromboning? Dude. RIP your linked ads and google recommendations.

Ha! Have you met the people on this forum? The Council could announce a free kitten and £100 in cash for every resident and one of the resident Mr Toads here on here would complain it was a plot to make life difficult for motorists. -
I am not even sure I know what Dulwich Square is to be honest. Is an opinion mandatory?
-
Not really my area of expertise TBH but I assume there would be some sort of vetting at the door. I assume these sorts things have to be licensed by the council?

This is hilarious! "They're sex people Lynne!" I am not sure the issue with these "adult" parties is as long as they are safe and discreet.

South Circular roadworks - excessive disruption
Cyclemonkey replied to Penguin68's topic in Roads & Transport
Apolgy accepted. I think you are overcooking the delays somewhat. I have travelled past the site by bus in both directions for three days in a row now, at different times. While there has been a little longer wait than normal, it really isn't that bad. -

I'm not a cycling activist - why would you think that? I've not posted anything about cycling. The name is just a name - after those little cycling monkey toys you used to get. I'm just a person who wants to be able to walk to local facilities without crossing a dangerous junction. -

I really don't want to get in to absolutely tedious banging on about cars and driving that dominate this board (to its detriment IMO). I think this improvement will benefit everyone and very much welcome it. I was just a little stunned at the bad tempered carping about delays and frankly insane conspiracy theories. -

Also you know the biggest single thing that makes life difficult for drivers? Other drivers. You are all traffic. Maybe if there were fewer cars on the road there wouldn't be so much congestion. Of course there will been an analysis of the costs and benefits of the job plan - you could have a 7 day a week crew, 24 hour working, night works that close the road completely. All available tools to shorten the duration of works, but also all expensive and disruptive in their own way. Money and disruption would have been a factor in the decision - not persecuting the poor put upon car drivers of SE22. -

You need to adjust that tin foil hat, it's slipped a bit. -

There are legitimate questions about the long lead in time - I assume the pandemic and subsequent financial issues for TfL has been a big factor, but the idea the duration of works for a much needed pedestrian crossing has been made deliberately longer than necessary because the authorities involved hate drivers is frankly batshit. -
South Circular roadworks - excessive disruption
Cyclemonkey replied to Penguin68's topic in Roads & Transport
The South Circular is a red route so comes under TfLs management not Southwark's. And one of the objectives of red routes is to keep traffic moving, which is why TfL take the lead on these key cross London routes rather than fragmented boroughs. I don't think it stands up that TfL would be deliberately making these works longer than neccessary because they "hate drivers". More the works are happening to protect pedestrians and this is the time it takes to complete safely Some people on this site are a bit odd. -

Mate, you're not that special. We've been having the water pipes replaced on our road for the last 12 months - road closures, water shut offs, night works, parking restrictions, footpaths closed .... the lot. -

I am not wasting my time indulging sealioning. I took part in a public consultation, TfL wrote to me with the results which were overwhelmingly positive. If you are so keen to find out I suggest you do a little extra work and send in an info request to TfL.
