After reading the above post I contacted Zoltan re my printer which had stopped working. Zoltan advised that the printer was broken (it was 12 years old!) and suggested a new one, which I ordered and he installed for me. He is very knowledgeable about anything techy and was most helpful as I also want to upgrade my software and possibly get a new laptop. Zoltan was punctual, helpful and very pleasant. I will certainly be calling on his assistance again and would recommend him.

If there are any Councillors who check this Forum I would like to suggest they pursue a traffic camera for the stretch of road leading up from Wood Vale to the junction of Forest Hill Road and Colyton Road. A friend of mine telephoned me this morning to advise that a neighbour's cat had been run over and killed by a speeding motorist who didn't stop after he/she had hit the cat, If it hadn't been a cat it could have been a human being ..... it is a fast stretch of road that is a serious accident waiting to happen. There is a traffic camera outside the Harris Academy and that works very well with traffic slowing down accordingly, The stretch of road I am referring to above is quite long and straight and there are a lot of reckless drivers who speed up and attempt to reach the lights before they change to red. If not a traffic camera then perhaps a zebra crossing half way down, which might help to slow the traffic. Just as an aside, this morning on my way back from the co-op the lights had turned red and I was just about to step out when a cyclist whizzed across in front of me. A traffic camera wouldn't help in this instance, but I do wish cyclists would obey the rules.

Fox outside looking in a sorry state
Toby Tobias replied to tarafitness's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Please call The Fox Project on 01892 731565. they are usually much more responsive than the RSPCA as deal only with foxes. -
Have just had a young man knock on the door saying he was the gardener. I said no not at this address and he quickly looked at his mobile and said oh sorry wrong address. I should have asked him what address he was looking for but didn't think quickly enough. He and his partner (an elderly chap) then moved off in their unmarked white van. I should have taken the number plate but again didn't think quickly enough. It has disconcerted me somewhat and I wonder if anyone out there has had a similar experience. Before anyone out there starts accusing me of all sorts of bias (which unfortunately I find happens regularly on the Forum) I am just asking the question. Probably the chap had genuinely got the wrong address but I thought I would mention it.

Has anyone ever used this car hire company? It seems they have a licence with Southwark Council and can park in residential streets re pick up/drop off (which apparently must be in the same street) which means one of their cars could be sitting outside your house for ages before anyone picks it up on hire. I know someone who this happened to but apparently there was nothing could be done about it. Bad enough trying to park in front of one's own house these days without the same car being there for days on end. I know that none of us have the "right" to park our cars in front of our own houses, but it is jolly useful when coming back from Sainsburys with the weekly shop! Just thought I would see if any ED residents had experienced the same problem as my friend.

I have read all of the reviews here and not sure we are talking about the same "Gala Event"; the event in Peckham Rye Park took place on the Sunday and Monday and not the Saturday. I live very close to the park and love gardening but there was no joy in being in the garden on that weekend. I managed to cope with the constant music on the Sunday but by Monday afternoon could no longer stand the noise. I love music as much as the next person but not for 12 hours at a stretch on two days running. I voted against the Gala event and really really hope it never takes place again in PRP. It's bad enough that the park is not being maintained as well as it used to be and this event has certainly not helped. No doubt I shall receive a tirade from several people out there - the Forum is becoming much like twitter where you can't just voice an opinion without someone having a go at you. And no I don't do Twitter nor Facebook, I am a pensioner and I still have a right to my opinion. Thank you and goodnight.

Lack of maintenance in Peckham Rye Park
Toby Tobias replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I totally agree with you Sue; as a keen gardener myself I have really noticed the lack of maintenance over the past few months. It had occurred to me to pop into the park office and enquire as to the reason but I suspect it is because they no longer have their head gardener - the lady was always out in the park doing something and whilst she was around all was well. Very sad that is no longer the case. -
I would like to add my recommendation for Jon Smith. Very nice and friendly chap who did a very good job in cleaning our very dirty windows! Jon was very thorough and we shall definitely use him again.

Dovedale/Forest Hill Rd Talking Cat
Toby Tobias replied to yeknomyeknom's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Dear Lucy, we also live at the Peckham Park end of Dovedale Road; you may be referring to one of our cats who is a tabby/tortie - effectively very dark with splashes of ginger. She is very thin but I assure you she is fine - she is 13 years old and eats on demand but never puts on weight. We have three cats - two ginger/white and as mentioned above - one of the ginger boys is the brother of the tortoiseshell and also very thin - just their age I think. All very well looked after and loved. -
So terribly sorry to read of Bill's passing. We bought our tv and tv accessories from him some years ago. He was so pleasant to deal with and whenever we had a problem with the tv he would happily come around and sort it out for us. He will be much missed. Sharon and Miguel

One can see from the amount of views that this thread has generated how concerned we all are for this little dog. You have been an absolute stalwart First Mate and you are to be commended for seeing this through to a, hopefully, satisfactory ending. I do hope that the RSPCA keep you updated and I am sure we are all hoping that they do re-home the dog to somebody who would really love and care for it.
-
Have you phoned the police? I think they are the only ones who, together with the RSPCA, would legally be able to rescue the dog. They may also be able to give you some guidance on what to do next. Also what about Battersea Dogs Home - they too must be able to give you some guidance on this? By the way, I think you are brilliant in trying to help this little dog. Will be following this thread until hopefully there is a satisfactory outcome.
-
I saw a similar situation to this once on the television, and the RSPCA did attend and take the dog away. I would keep phoning the RSPCA until they come and rescue the poor creature and if they don't respond try the police - I believe that the police and the RSPCA do work together in these cases.
-
Good for you for trying, but I doubt that the creature will survive. I have tried on many occasions to save nestlings that have fallen from the nest (or been rescued from my cats !) but they don't make it; I guess it's a combination of shock and not receiving the correct food. Always worth trying though - good luck.

Charity to rescue very sick fox cub?
Toby Tobias replied to tomskip's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Having spoken to the park warden's office today it would seem they have still not located the fox which was the subject of the first thread here by tomskip. They advised me that once they have some firm news they will leave a message on the notice board outside their office so that all of us who are interested will know the outcome. -
Charity to rescue very sick fox cub?
Toby Tobias replied to tomskip's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As an update I spoke today with the Park Warden and he advised that Eddie Williams did attend site this morning. He left medication, food and a container in which to try and trap the fox. The park warden is hoping that this evening (once the park is quieter) they will be able to locate and trap the fox, at which point Mr Williams will return to the park and take the fox to the sanctuary. If I have any further news I will post it here. -
Charity to rescue very sick fox cub?
Toby Tobias replied to tomskip's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The park warden and I have contacted the Wildlife centre in Chislehurst. I believe Eddie Williams from that centre is probably at the park now. He is very experienced in catching and treating sick animals, whether they be wildlife or domestic pets. He said he would come back to me and let me know what happened so I hope to post a message later. Apparently the Park Warden has been in touch with him in the past regarding sick animals so obviously we have a very caring park warden which is good to hear. -
Charity to rescue very sick fox cub?
Toby Tobias replied to tomskip's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have emailed the Fox Project with the details and hopefully they will be able to assist. Have given them the park manager's number and the vet's number. I did try to phone their mobile ambulance service but that seems to no longer be in assistance. Let's hope somebody will do something to help the poor creature. -

For anybody interested or just to keep on your mobiles the park manager's number is 020 8299 0861. Might be useful for other incidences or whatever. -

Yes I agree re calling the vet. The Neighbourhood Vet surgery across the road from the Rye seem to be very helpful in these situations. I believe they have taken in stray animals with a view to finding them homes. Obviously this wouldn't happen re a fox but they could at least put it out of its misery, which I doubt that the park manager would do. Hopefully the park manager will take it to the surgery, but as tomskip advises the park manager is aware of the fox why hasn't something been done about it already. I know foxes get a bad press, but I really hate to see any creature suffering. -
Dear Mark I think the Forum is brilliant and very helpful in finding out things about East Dulwich that I didn't know about (even though I have lived here for 20 years !). I recently noticed on one of the threads that someone had tried to download a photograph and was unable to do so. I recently had a similar problem and therefore was unable to re-home an armchair which ended up being taken away by the Council - sad. Many moons ago I was able to download a photo but the rules on this seem to have changed. I wondered whether it would help if you deleted some of the really really old stuff on the forum - is it getting clogged up? If that were to happen perhaps we might be able to download pics of any size? Just a thought. Thank you.

Just to add my bit to this very long thread - many months ago having explained the problem to TfL I suggested that they change the sequence of lights so that cars turning right from EDR to Peckham Rye would have more time to do so. TfL said the traffic lights were a matter for Southwark Council. I then contacted Southwark Council and they said the traffic lights were a matter for TfL! At this point I gave up and now go a different route....

There was a young couple going door to door yesterday trying to find a home for a lovely female puppy - I think it was a staffy. I live very close to Peckham Rye. The couple were most pleasant and I really do hope they managed to find a home for the puppy. I wonder if anyone has any news on that?
