  1. It was exciting to hear about the plans to redevelop Peckham Rye Station a while ago. However, now it seems like everything has gone quiet, and I can't find any information on what the latest news is. Does anyone have an update? Last I heard the council were talking to the 60 (can't believe there's that many!) businesses in front of the station to discuss renegotiating their leases and moving them elsewhere. I just hope this project goes ahead, it would be a great shame if not.
  2. Is this really true?! I have just moved to SE15 (just off Bellenden Road) and your post has really worried me! It would be good to hear from some local residents with a positive experience of the area... sidmeister Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I know this thread is long dormant, but I thought > I'd add my two penn'orth here. 3. I think the streets to the east of Denmark Hill Station - Camberwell Grove, Shenley, Crofton, Denman, Bushey Hill Road etc - are all lovely. As someone else said, I'd be more cautious about Loughborough Junction. I used to live round there and found it quite intimidating after dark!
  4. Interesting! People certainly had lovely handwriting in those days.

  8. By the way, this is the latest news from Peckham Vision regarding the station square... Peckham Vision May 10 At the Scrutiny meeting, the Council said they were not intending to acquire ALL interests, just as they were not intending to seek all vacant possession. They now have to come back to Cabinet to report on what they will be aiming to do so there will be a public chance to look at that, if they tell us they are doing it. So continued vigilance is needed. Meanwhile, the fright has strengthened the links that had already formed between enterprises on the site, including with Peckham Vision. Come to the Goose Green Fair on Sunday 12th May 11am-4pm to see our information displays, and discuss the issues.
  9. Thanks! :D araucaria Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Here's a snap from the private launch party last > night... > > http://t.co/cWRcxLnxyT
  10. Ooh, great news - didn't expect it to be that quick! I can't wait to check it out :) araucaria Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So, twitter has just told me that the Peckham > Refreshment Rooms are opening this Friday. Personally I find it very sad that Rye Lane has lost all the wonderful shops that it used to have (which posters have listed on this forum in other threads). I'd like to see it going up in the world again.

  13. Anything that helps to regenerate and clean up run-down Rye Lane gets the thumbs up from me. It sounds like things are really on the up around there, with the new station square and now this story.

  17. So the people behind The Palmerston (who I believe previously owned The Herne) own the Begging Bowl? I didn't know that! 19. Hi all, on my way to the station this morning, I spotted that the bus stops at Heaton Road and Rye Lane had the dreaded 'bus stop not in use' signs over them, and there was a notice saying that buses would be on diversion from 9.30am onwards. From what I could glimpse, I think the diversion will be in place until Friday. The bus stops at Nigel Road and East Dulwich Road may also be out of action, I didn't see unfortunately. I guess it must apply to all buses going down Rye Lane, so 63, 363, 12, 197 etc - although I'm not sure of the reason for it. Anyway, just to warn everyone that you'll probably have to walk up Rye Lane up to Peckham Rye Common if you want to catch a bus home tonight!
  20. Very sad to read the list of Peckham's retailers of old :( Hopefully with all the regeneration that's (hopefully) going to take place at the station, things might start to improve?
  21. +2 customers - as if the pub does become more 'adult-oriented', I would certainly go there a lot more often! As someone without kids, I much prefer to have a quiet drink without children running around screaming, and as a result tend to avoid The Herne at all costs. However, I can see from parents' point of view it must have been good to have the play area to keep the children occupied, and to have such a family friendly local pub. I guess you just can't please everybody! *Bob* Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > UncleBen Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > I will definately be going to the Herne once the > changes are made. 23. Hi, where is Kelston Road exactly? I can't seem to find it on googlemaps! The reason I ask is, I often hear someone cutting wood with an electrical device in the Dunstans Road area. It's not close enough to my house to bother me too much, but I imagine if you lived next door it could be very irritating! It happens regularly at weekends, and today from about 10am until 1pm.
  24. Oh dear...I hope it's not replaced by yet another betting shop or fast food joint - but I don't hold out much hope sadly.
  25. More info.... The Council's own Overview Scrutiny Committee decided that there were issues which needed to be probed before the Cabinet decision was implemented. The Scrutiny meeting will take place this coming TUESDAY 7th MAY 6-7pm at Council HQ 160 Tooley Street. The Scrutiny Committee paper summarising the issue is here: http://goo.gl/NQowI It is item 5 on the agenda (see http://goo.gl/od49J), and will start near 6pm. Councillor Fiona Colley in charge of the station regeneration project will be speaking, and Peckham Vision and other enterprises on the site will also have a voice. This is open to the public, and we will welcome support. It will be of interest to all who support the creative enterprises and independence of Peckham's local economy, and the need for a supportive nurturing approach to organic economic change. ___________________
