Agree with the post above - I have no idea how anyone could describe the area as dull. It's a wonderful place to live, with lots of excellent places to go out. There are also far more good pubs around there than there are in ED. What's more, I've been walking through the Lettsom Estate for years - both during the day and after dark - and have never once experienced any of the issues that ratty mentions.

OP - I feel your pain. Myself and my partner managed to scrape enough cash together to buy a small flat in SE15, but if we were buying now we wouldn't be able to afford anything in this postcode (except perhaps an ex-LA flat, but our bank wouldn't lend on those). While we would be gutted to leave the Peckham/ED area, if we ever want anything more than a one-bed, we'll be forced to move further out. Would anyone recommend Bromley as a place to live? I noticed it's only about 15 minutes on the train into Victoria, and seems to have a more regular train service than Peckham! Plus it's obviously far cheaper than this area...

Anyone know what the latest is on this? Is the council's planning application in the public domain yet?

Yuck :( I haven't had any sign of them in SE15. Had loads during the warmer weather in July/August though!

What?! Brixton gets Waitrose and we get Morrisons?! Not cool. Seriously though, I do think people are misguided about Waitrose prices. Last time I checked their beef mince was ?2.86, while Co-op's was ?4 for the same weight! If you shop carefully at Waitrose, it's very price competitive, plus it's excellent quality. I like knowing that all the meat and dairy that I'm buying is free range, for example.

Hi BecsBex, maybe she's reading this thread! But it's a good thing that she's cleared the garden, right? Have you decided to move out in February then? Shame she appears to own the place and isn't a council tenant - then you could at least tried to have her evicted. She sounds like a complete cow :(

I don't know any cafes that aren't kid-friendly in East Dulwich! Most of them seem to have the little blighters running amok.

Hi Eileen, thanks so much for your response. Yes, I think we are definitely talking about the same place - and great news that it's to be refurbished and turned into a retail unit! Here's hoping it will be let to something other than a pound shop, butcher or hairdresser. Fantastic news about the building that almost became a meat factory too. Doesn't that building actually have a sign on it saying Halal meat? It must have come very close to being turned into a factory before you guys stepped in! The art gallery and restaurant sounds fab, can't wait! Good news that the Blenheim Grove units are being refurbished too. It really seems like Peckham Rye station is on the up, and I'm sure that's almost all because of the amazing work that you guys at Peckham Vision are doing. As a regular user of Peckham Rye station, I am immensely grateful!

I was at Peckham Rye station earlier and noticed what looked like some quite major building work going on. As you walk in the main door of the station it's on the right. Anyone know what it is? Hopefully a new coffee bar or cafe or something!

Eileen, is there any update on the station plans do you know? Or are we still looking at Oct/Nov to see what the council comes up with?

Hi Jimit, I heard from Eileen of Peckham Vision that the council and Network Rail are due to unveil a plan for the redevelopment of the station around October/November time.

So yet ANOTHER hairdresser for Peckham Rye/Rye Lane!! Let's hope this one doesn't dump a load of hair balls on the street like the others.

Hi Jeremy, I don't know how you came to that conclusion, hee hee! Seriously though, it's mostly the litter and the dirt that depresses me to be honest. I'd also like to see more of a mix of shops, and businesses taking more pride in their surroundings (ie, not just dumping rubbish on the streets). I'm really looking forward to the redevelopment of the station, that's for sure! If it goes ahead that is...
