He didn't really understand that a minorly crass attempt at anti-racism had clearly been edited in order to make it racist. That makes him a bit of an idiot, albeit in this case a vaguely well meaning idiot. None of which is really the point. To reiterate AM's point, given his background any attempt at a racism smear should be laughable, but never underestimate people's ability to be offended on the off chance that someone somewhere may theoretically be!!
  2. Read something the other day that there is now a modest trend of people in their 30s moving to other urban centres raht er then the burb or commuter belt. Small beginnings perhaps, but can only be good in the long run for londoners and the economy as a whole if sustained.

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/30289692 Basically a perfect microcosm of all that is wrong with the modern world a) twitter 'storm' as news (or 'miss miss, barry called you a slag') in fact b) twitter c) the democratisation of stupidity d) people sharing the stupidest stuff without thinking but most of all e) people getting so fecking offended by everything the whole time, usually hypothetically on other people's behalf. Pikeys the lot of them!!!!

  7. excellent, that's my mate and her daughter having a beer in the photo!!
  8. i got 3 correct scores and EVERYTHING ELSE wrong!!!!
  9. I can see that does happen on crossed posts regularly adonirum; but experience offers a few simple techniques. explicitly answer/comment on previous posts by referencing or quoting poster and/or content. Smilies, they have their detractors, but god knows a wink can just make obvious the intention. We don't have tone of voice, so it helps to provide it in other ways.
  10. have another very busy weekend coming up so will try to get them done today. oooh, see you saturday ots!!
  11. Liverpool analogy is probably spot on as sometimes i just fail to turn up ;)
  12. Yeah my mate got stung to a pretty hefty tune, I would be a bit wary about that. But even in the privately owned estate i lived in the fees quickly add up too.
  13. I dunno, he's hardly a hardened criminal, so that's all vaguely plausible, and it was his number he found, again, can't see why not. The guilt is like a cancer story retold was a bit contrived I'll grant you. I guess the aritst pick up was there to paint the french as a bunch with loose morals and gitanes permanently stuck to lower lip. I jest, probably something about how his life is unhinged, he walks away from a young beautiful woman or something.... We're still very much enjoying it though, am liking the pace and the drip feed, even the slightly daft twist at the end of the episode, but only because i'd worked it out after the 'regrets' comment and got to feel all smug ;)
  14. I said sorry, in real life and everyfink ;)

it may well be, it is on my wife's automatic, and it's still useful when actually leaving the car, but as you say, when driving automatics don't actually roll backwards so kind of pointless. I was just agreeing with you really.
  16. It's pretty quiet and pleasant enough as far as i can tell. I used to frequent the (dear departed) pub round the corner and I always used to take my kids to the albright centre for health visits and to the group activities. was always a delight. Have taken it as a short cut to Peckham many a time even at night and never felt any concern.
  17. I think you're a great example of how with engagement and good humour you can come from total newcomer to established stalwart in a matter of days maxxi!!
  18. I dunno, if you've seen a picture of Tim Robbins recently the it's vaguely amazing Shawshank wasn't about 100 years ago!!! Good News for People Who Love Bad News is 10 years old. That scared me a bit.
  19. a good troll can be good entertainment. I always enjoyed allfornun's variously unhinged incarnations, and it's always a bit duller without snorky. You louisa are forum royalty!!

it is kind of moot on an automatic. I had this on a previous non automatic and its marvellous. Only problem is remebering to disengage normal ones in hire cars and the like!!
  21. plus what's not to like about abacab, it's like the 80s condensed into one record. It's shoulder pads, maverick cop duos, flourescent socks and hand claps in vinyl!!!
  22. absolutely!!!
  23. yeah, they were good.
  24. but yeah, loneliness, isolation and grief seem to be threads in common with all the main characters, or judging by the way the elements and lighting were used, everyone in Yorkshire!!
