Felling of oak trees in Sydenham Hill Wood

How does this fit with Southwark's alleged commitment to greener, healthier streets, lowering pollution etc...etc...? You really cannot trust them. -
CPZ...the results are in.....brace yourselves....

I stand to be corrected but I suspect part of the issue is with Melbourne Grove. It is a long road and I think only around a third of it, closest to the station, was in favour of CPZ. The rest against. However, if it was viewed as one long road it would be a majority against. I think this might account for the North South approach that was introduced by the Council. -

Thanks Charles for that clarification. -

Perhaps I can quite an earlier poster who responded to Cllr McAsh as follows: "In response to question 1, I think the map in Figure 2 would be much more informative if Melbourne Grove was split into two. The responses showed that the section north of EDG is clearly in favour of a CPZ (hence it should be coloured green) and the section south of EDG is clearly against a CPZ (hence it should be coloured red). This would make it easier to see that the proposed zone is too big. Your suggestion of removing Melbourne Grove (south), Blackwater Street, Bassano Street, Chesterfield Grove and Ashbourne Grove from the proposed CPZ is a good one. None of these roads showed a clear majority in favour of a CPZ, with some clearly against a CPZ, so it seems unfair to impose one on them". A number of streets were undecided and Ashbourne against, that means that for that area the majority is agianst CPZ. We were told that around the station 54% are in favour, therefore CPZ will be implemented. The same logic must be applied throughout. -

I had thought it was a fairly clear no from streets on the south side of Melbourne Grove. James Mc Cash said he had been pushing hard for these roads not to be included as that was what residents wanted, just as the majority of residents close to the station said they did want CPZ. How curious then if just one man, Cllr Livingstone, can go with a majority 'vote' in one area but ignore it in another? The proposal was that Chesterfield, Ashbourne, Bassano were not in the CPZ. I hope that has been upheld. -

Are Ashbourne, Chesterfield and Bassano street inside the CPZ? -

The Council want mass CPZ so either Cllr Livinstone will ignore current recommendations and extend it anyhow or inevitable parking displacement will result in further CPZ sooner or later. The Council want to give the impression of being reasonable etc.. but in reality the utterly cynical extension of double yellow lines indicates the real agenda. -

If it exists could someone post a map for the proposed ED CPZ? I am unable to get onto the link. -
Dangerous Irish Terrier in Goose Green / High Street
first mate replied to Renatus's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Any dog has the capacity to become aggressive under certain conditions and the most common reason for any dog to suddenly turn on another dog is fear- the root cause being that the 'attacker' may have themselves have had a bad experience with another dog. -
Goose Green Councillors newsletter
first mate replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Such a shame you have to sign up to it, can't you just cut and paste the contents on here or make it available for residents to read on your website? I don't quite understand why the newsletter needs a separate space you have to sign in to? -
Yes it was but some, myself included, thought it looked pretty ugly. I hope we can have a really proper go at rallying support and effort among dog owners to make a big change. There has not been any sort of campaign or real intervention before and perhaps Some funding could go towards this. Before fencing off areas and taking out wholesale bans we should have a go at galvanising owners to be much more vigilant around their own behaviour as well as other people
-
Rch, Yes, I think it does need a conscious, community- minded push where those who forget to pick up are reminded by others. No bad thing to apply this to litter in general. I am genuinely appalled by the amount of broken glass everywhere. Just about every park visit I have found a piece..where is it all coming from? Should there be a ban on taking glass items into the park?
-
Good idea
-
Possibly the time has come for responsible dog owners to sort this and start to be proactive, not only in picking up after their own dog but those of others. If you see an owner not paying attention then flag it up. Carry spare bags. I would hate to see a dog ban on the Green because it might start the ball rolling for outright bans in other areas too and that would impact massively on dog owners and their dogs. I have always loved how dog friendly ED is, let's not lose that privilege! On a separate note, I never cease to be amazed at how laissez faire everyone is about broken bottles and glass, both on pavements and in the park. Okay not as revolting and does not present the same potential health risks, but there are risks nonetheless. Before anyone jumps on me, I am not in any way excusing dog poo, it is disgusting and needs sorting. However, I personally find the broken glass issue to be a real problem and it has also got worse- in my experience at least.

None of us want to, but perhaps the easiest solution would be if the majority of responsible owners pick up a few other deposits when out with their own dog? It does let the anti social brigade off the hook but these personality types are not likely to change and perhaps others doing the 'dirty' work is the simplest option. I only say because otherwise all dog owners risk being banned, we also risk playing into a scenario where PSPO monitoring is parceled out to private policing companies.
-
Well, I suppose that is my point really. There are impatient, speeders on just about any vehicle and they take risks. It is perhaps the mindset that needs adjusting and not the type of vehicle. I have felt intimidated by 'fellow' car drivers and by 'fellow' cyclists, by scooter/ motorbike drivers too, you name it. At source is the same issue, The person is in a hurry and demands you go faster or they overtake you in whatever manner they choose.
-
Agree it is an issue but then speeding cyclists will also cut up those who are slower.

In the consultation replies there is a letter from the local residents assn, presumably representing them, that states that the land is MOL and therefore cannot be built on. If it is built on it sets precendent for more MOL to be lost in future.

Dulwich Hospital Demolition

Any insights as to options currently on table? In my view, it would be a shame to lose SELDOC. I don't have much faith in Concordia, the outfit that I gather has won the contract to run the new health centre. -

Mumofone, where do you think SELDOC will go, please share if you can? -
Yes, it would be great if similar could be introduced in UK. Many animals and some people suffer badly with the noise.

Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
first mate replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Absolutely no political motivation on my part. Just irritation at time spent trying to sort it out. Glad you at least got a reply to your query. It does help to have a response, together with a written reassurance your bags will continue to be collected in the interim. Despite asking for the same, a written response was not forthcoming when I asked for it. -
Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
first mate replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi James, Do we know when large, brown garden bins will be delivered? I now have a sticker but no bin to put it on. I have tried on multiple occasions to speak to a decision maker at Southwark Council and they are either in meetings or about to go into one and never return calls or make any attempt to communicate, despite Southwark holding my address, my email and my phone number. Customer services personnel are incredibly vague about it all and repeat a mantra along the lines " you should get a bin soon". However, I get the impression they have no idea themselves and can offer no explanation as to the delay. Whoever is overseeing this mess really should be publicly accountable instead of hiding behind Council phone operatives. Can you advise us who is in charge of this James?
