  1. I was visiting a friend in Burbage Road two days ago and we were just about to leave the house when a guy knocked and asked for a bucket of water - apparently he was cleaning someones car across the road, which I don't doubt because he was running a hosepipe from their house to the jag. Anyway, said friend, being kind and neighbourly and maybe too naive, asked me to go to kitchen to get a bucket of water for the poor man. He then asked her if she would like her car cleaned, she said she wouldn't mind, but as she was on her way to a meeting she was waiting for a radio taxi. "Don't worry" said scum bag scammer, "leave your car keys with me and I'll clean the inside and outside for a tenner". "No" says I "Don't leave your car keys.. Anyway, friend leaves in taxi, childrens nanny goes to collect her kids from school, I depart in my car and all is locked up. Well apparently, scumbag scammer hovvered around and told the nanny pon her return that he hadn't been paid the car cleaning, she goes back into house, phones boss on mobile to check story, no reply from bposs so hands over seven quid. In the meantime pregnant (or not) girlfriend turns up, who sounds not unlike girl from previous ED scam friends), swears blind the guy hasn't been paid, asks to use toilet as she is pregnant, thank god nanny refuses. I think I left out that friend on her way to taxi actually DID give scumbag robber seven qyuid on her way out. WATCH OUT FOR CAR CLEANERS

  4. Good for you lizzy - a lass who isn't afraid to speak her mind, and very discreet too - mentions no names.
  5. Had 2 amazing curries from there. Hope you are ordering freom the new menu, not the old one.
  6. Also I don't suppose anyone would remember the old joke shop which would be where the the fancy furniture place is now, by sainsburys. It was great. You could buy all the usual - plastic dog sh--t, fake blood, etc. All the kids used to go there. A friend of my brother's was so into it all, he went on to become a very good magician working the cruise ships. Another thing of interest was the sainsbury's "freezer centre" which would be about on the corner of Northcross. I kid you not, you could actually buy a whole lamb or pig chopped into pieces in there. It was about the time when fridge/freezers first became available. Also there were good public conveniences in Lordship Lane, I think somewhere near the police station. Hope this is of interest. I have loads more info if anyone is interested.
  7. Having just slated dulwichmum and mentioned that I have lived in ED all my life I thought you might like to hear this story. When my brother and I were children my parents both had to work as there was no such thing then as social security or help with rent, etc. Anyway, my grandparents lived on the the new dogkennel hill estate. During the summer holidays my brother and I were packed off to them for the duration of the 6 weks (only during the day). Where sainsburys is now used to be what was called a "slag heap" which was the remnants of coal and coke for disposal. My grandfather (a sheister by nature) would get my brother and I ready for a day out, take an old pram and take us to the slag heap to nick coal (which we were unaware of). He would load the old pram up with bits of slag and then watch out for the people in charge. When we heard the command "right, run you little toe-rags" we would run and rum thinking it was a game he was playing. My parents didn't know of this exciting little venture for years. Another thing he did was inherit a newsagents at herene hill from his father. This was given to him after the last was (I might add that my grandfather was a awarded a very high medal for taking out a german troop single-handedly # albeit he was shot to pices with shrapnel). Anyway, this new-found wealth went to m y grandfather's head. He drank the profits away most weeks. On one occasion he decided to host a party in his house (a prefab in Ruby Street, Old Kent Road), however, one of the "ladies" had a lot to drink, fell over the rickety bannister and successfully sued him for all he had. End of business.
  8. Actually having just read the latest I can tell you exactly what dulwichmum is. It goes like this "I am very important all of a sudden...I think I have money therefore I can say what I want and be brash and take the p***" Actually I have lived in ED all my life. Lordship Lane used to be the pits. Then it started to become not too bad, everyone was friendly. But lately it has become yuppy beyond a joke. We don't all have the same disposable income ya know. Not meaning to sound bitter or anything like that but come on....you spends your money you takes your choice. If you want to be brash, yuppy and snobby PLEASE go buy a place in West Dulwich and leave us original East Dulwich ites who have lived here all our lives alone.
  9. Just read your latest posting dulwichmum - very bad taste. Also just read your blog - equally bad taste. Are you God - only you seem to think you are # to me you come across as being very shallow and the epitome of bad taste.

I sincerely hope my thread re single and over 50 didn't cause concern. I am new to this forum and merely hoped to start maybe a friendship coffee meeting or pub meeting. Many thanks.
  11. Well, I'm waiting for any reasonable replies
  12. Glad to see you are all finding this thread so funny. The idea wasn't to find sex. drugs and debauchery - merely friendship. Don't get too much up your own a***ses, one day you may be in the same position.
  13. was in the sorting office looking for my lost 3 parcels when I heard a v. interesting conversation between 2 members of staff which went something like this - male voice "what do you mean he hasn't delivered in this area before" female voice "well, I feel sorry for this surrounding area, they won't be very happy". When I questioned said conversation male voice said they were talking about someone who had left long ago. LIARS, LIARS, LIARS
  14. Just had a PM from a guy called Davide who is running events at Dulwich Hamlet football ground. He said he would be keen to set up a singles night there, maybe on a Friday or Saturday nights. No entry charge and everything would be left in his capable hands. Apparently the drinks are very cheap and |I gather they have a late license. He is going to keep an eye on the forum to see what response there is to this posting.
  15. Michael, I like your idea. How about we try to get something organised after christmas?
  16. OK, any age singles could come up with an idea of starting a group (but including over 50s)
  17. Does anyone have any ideas where singles in east dulwich can meet up socially, especially those of us over 40? There seems to be nowhere at all. All the bars are full of youngsters and, anyway, as a woman I wouldn't want to walk into a bar alone. Anyone in a similar situation have any ideas on starting a social group? Maybe meet up for coffee etc.
  18. Hi everyone. I am new to the forum. Has anyone experienced any difficulties with parcels not arriving via said sorting office. Mysteripusly 3 parcels of mine seem to have gone astray. Apparently they have vanished into thin air. Maybe santa claus has mistaken them for his own parcels?
