Yes. Estate Agents sell East Dulwich as some kind of Eutopia. The hard fact is East Dulwich is a South East London suburb. Crime is rampant, if those who are prepared £1.5 million plus for a house without doing their homework on the crime stats, then woe betide them. Im okay, I was born and bred here so know the territory, so to speak. Anyone arriving and believing this is crime free, think again.

Understand one thing....you may have bought an expensive property here and expected south London to change for you and adapt for your needs, but it hasn't. It does not sell what people want. I visited today, hoping to find something “what people want”. I am a pensioner and I have limited money. I was hoping to find some cheaper vegetables and fruit. Their fruit and veg consists of two tiers at the end of an aisle. I also like to buy colouring books and pencils for my grandchildren, once again I have to go to Peckham for these. I’m not saying this is the be all and end all of a pound shop, but don’t waste your time. Go to Peckham. I will give it one year max before they are gone. I just don’t get it.

Is it just me? I thought everyone was so strapped for cash at the moment, all up in arms about how they can’t afford their gas and electricity bills. Absolutely worried about the cost of living. The amount of fireworks being let off in East Dulwich over the past week tells me otherwise, and this will continue until we’ll after 5th November. What is the priority here....putting money aside for bills and food, or burning money on fireworks?

Years ago a market was exactly that. A place to buy fruit and veg, housewares and reasonably priced clothing. Nowadays the definition of a "market" is nothing but food stalls, overpriced junk selling as "antiques". The old East Street market was amazing in its day. As a child my parents would go there every Saturday with myself and brother in tow. Literally everything we needed was bought there. The shops lining East Street market were competitively priced because of the market prices. As a teenager I would go there the day after weekly pay day and buy the latest 45rmp single from the A1 store. Then off to the clothing stalls to buy my Saturday night outfit. That was a true market. It's still there today but nothing like it was.
