At the InfantLab (based in Goldsmiths College, New Cross) we investigate the development of perceptual and motor skills and abilities in early life from infancy to adulthood. We are particularly interested in how inputs from different senses (such as vision and touch) are brought together so that babies and children are able to make sense of the world around them. Studies are presented as fun, age appropriate games. At the moment we are particularly seeking young infants (6 months and under)to participate in studies exploring visual-tactile spatial processing. We are currently running a study which is open to children between 5 and 11 years of age. The study is presented as a game in which children are asked to indicate which of four rockets flashed to show that it was running out of fuel. Children place their fingertips onto vibrating pads, which vibrate when the rockets are ready to ?launch?. Participation in this study will help us to build on our understanding of how children use tactile stimuli to direct their attention. We are interested in what this can tell us about how children keep track of events in the world in relation to their own bodies. Children are rewarded for participation with stickers, a bookmark and a certificate. Participation in this study requires a single visit of around one hour to the InfantLab (at Goldsmiths College, University of London, New Cross). At Goldsmiths InfantLab we study these questions and more! We are located within Goldsmiths College (University of London), New Cross. We study children?s cognitive development, with a particular focus on how infants and children learn to perceive and act on the world around them by combining and interpreting their various sensory inputs to control their actions. Our studies take the form of age appropriate games. We use a variety of scientific techniques to investigate children?s cognitive development across a broad age range.
