  1. I thought about replying with a recommendation for my daughter's nursery (Gumboots) but I doubt that there's no way you would be able to bypass their waiting list and get a place in August or shortly after. I imagine a lot of nurseries in the area are operating with similarly lengthy waiting lists which is perhaps why you have not received a response yet from Forum users. As a point of interest - don't expect nurseries to answer your emails. You need to go there in person and then call, call and keep calling to get a place. Most don't respond to emails as they don't always have a staff member infront of a computer all day.
  2. We have very reasonably priced healthcare through Benenden and it's been absolutely amazing for two operations my daughter has needed for her tonsils and adenoids. Would thoroughly recommend them and much cheaper than BUPA or AXA http://www.benenden.org.uk/ The hospital is about an hour's drive away in Tenterden in Kent.
  3. Here's the link to the Arches Art Club that is mentioned above: http://www.archesartclub.com/
  4. Sounds like fun, thanks for the info. There's also an equally child-friendly artists' event at the arches underneath Peckham Rye BR station on Blenheim Grove. Details are on this forum post: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?6,903664,911186#msg-911186
  5. Giles Davies is excellent and comes highly recommended by lots of mums to be on this forum. http://www.gilesdavies.com/contact.htm 020 8516 0769 07739 414 210 He is on Barry Road.
  6. The ironing board-related injury was simply ridiculous! How sweet were the two older couples that had been together for years and years. I love the description of the how one chap met Rose (I think that is her name) on the last day of school at a dance!
  7. Most definitely Simon from Amigos Magic, he is brilliant! http://www.amigosmagic.co.uk/
  8. This place is probably more on the crazy side than quirky... How about the Bussey Building? Absolutely massive, has lots of rooftop space. You'd have to get some caterers in, though. http://www.thebusseybuilding.com/
  9. We had about 100 for a first bday party at the Darrell Road community centre. Google it and the details will come up, about ?160 for 5 hours but this was some years ago. Really great venue, two rooms and a kitchen plus outside area. Fine for music. I dont agree with tiddles, my daughter had a fab time and there were kids of all ages, so it was a really good day. All the parties since her first have been tiny but it was fun to have one really big party.
  10. Gymboree in Herne Hill are open over Summer
  11. Le Querce in Brockley is incredibly child-friendly in the evenings. http://lequerce.co.uk/
  12. Artastic run classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at JAPS school on Townley Road, ?27 per day from 9am - 4pm, age 4+. We just did the June half-term one and it was a lot of fun. Email for info: info@artasticartclub.co.uk Gumboots run a summer camp, from 8am to 5pm I think and it is a bit cheaper than the class listed above. I saw this posted on the forum. Do a search for summer camps and a few options should come up as it has been discussed lately. There's plenty of stuff going on over Summer including sports camps but I can't remember the specific details.
  13. Pheromonal traps from SMBS, about ?7 each. They are very effective, we caught about 100 moths on each trap last year (yeuch!) Our moth problem is substantially lower this year after blitzing the house with these traps last year. They are made by Mottlock, link to product below. http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?hl=en&safe=off&q=mottlock&ix=h9&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1377&bih=1265&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=17201021789322407905&sa=X&ei=jLDRT8OeA6Sn0QXUmsnyAw&ved=0CF4Q8wIwAA
  14. I second the recommendation for Giles Davies, he is excellent and very friendly. http://www.gilesdavies.com/
  15. We tried GF the first time. My daughter was not ready and refused to get involved with any sort of potty training. We waited till she was about 2 years 10 months and managed day and night nappies in one go but not using GF, we just took her out of them and never mentioned them again!
  16. I have always had to take my daughter out of the Ergo to go through airport security. We must have done about 10 flights and they all insisted she comes out :(
  17. Wavelengths in Deptford, perhaps? http://www.fusion-lifestyle.com/centres/Wavelengths_Leisure_Centre/facility/Flume
  18. Oliver Bonas usually has some nice bits and pieces. Or a gift voucher for Forever 21 ?
  19. Sillywoman, i like the phrase "husband isn't being logical" :))
  20. I didn't notice any effect from the pethidine. However the oral morphine that they gave me after my C-Section was good stuff!
  21. Another vote for Loz. He doesn't just do family portraits, he photographed our wedding brilliantly.
  22. The average rate of pay for qualified music teachers in London is ?28ph. If you're looking to pay about half the going rate, then you should probably look for a group lesson, not an individual lesson. I am guessing the primary school does not offer music lessons as is is usually the first port of call for learning the recorder.
  23. What about the French Baroque composers? I think Couperin and Rameau are the shining stars of the Baroque era. This harpsichord tune is one of my faves, La Marche des Scythes by Royer: Soler, Scarlatti and Byrd are also other favourites of mine (tu)
  24. SBot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I do morning otherwise they nag you all day....is > it time for my party yet?.. I completely agree with this! Morning ones are best - then the kids have a long nap afterwards!
  25. There is the excellent German Kindergarten at St Faith's Church Centre, Dulwich, SE24. They take children from age 2+. They close at 3.30 or 3.45 so they don't offer extended hours.
