Applying for Secondary 2020 deadline today!
Scrummymummy replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Monkey, you will be sent a letter from the school inviting your child in. Last year the Harris text was on Friday 14th December. We had Kingsdale on the 1st December, but it was also running the weekend before. -
catchment distance to local secondary schools
Scrummymummy replied to edbloke's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Monkey, We are near to you and we got offered Sydenham School for this year's intake. Daughter absolutely loves it and has made lots of new friends. Most of them live this side of the school and so walking distance. They get the bus from Upland Rd & Underhill Rd bus stops. We are still over 100 on the waiting lists for both Charters, but do not think we would change now even if we were offered a place anyway. Not sure what it was like this year, but the previous year, I understand Harris girls still has 2 vacancies at the start of September after the waiting lists moved things around, so don't give up hope! -
Crossing Lordship Lane just below Friern road
Scrummymummy replied to roxie99's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This also happened to me, a speeding motorbike came round the corner towards the Library(south to north)and I actually had to turn back or it would have hit me. That stretch could do with some kind of crossing or obvious speed cameras to deter this. There are two bus stops between the library and Underhill Road crossings, but no safe route to get to them without walking down to either of those crossings. -
Just resurrecting this post. Does anyone know anywhere fairly local, not already mentioned, where the wildfowl will remain undisturbed? Thanks

Secondary School Allocations 2019
Scrummymummy replied to echo's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Katiesa, This is a good site to use to plot -https://www.daftlogic.com/ I just calculated it's just under 1.2km from Sainsbury's Local to Jarvis Road. However your place on the waiting list should also give you an indication. We are passed Sainsbury's further south and 153 on the waiting list, so basically no chance. It could be the catchment has shrunk this year. -
Secondary School Allocations 2019
Scrummymummy replied to echo's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We live in Dulwich Hill area and got Sydenham school first round (we are 1.5KM from the school). We knew that we were out of catchment for both Charters and Kingsdale chances are low unless you get a scholarship. Sydenham is 10 minutes on the bus and a good school. Whilst ideally Charter North is our first choice, we knew that realistically the chances were very low. We are 120 on the waiting list and it's our nearest school! I believe also from friends that Forest Hill boys also stretches out this far. Oscar have you checked Sydenham/Forest Hill boys? You can be added to the list if you didn't put them down originally. -
Spate of break ins in and around Crystal Palace Road
Scrummymummy replied to Beej's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
So sorry this has happened Beej. Our neighbours also had their garage broken in to a few weeks ago, all bikes stolen. We are the south end of Dunstans Road. They then saw them on gumtree a week later, but police said they couldn't do anything about it! -

Sorry, really boring I know but if anyone can help. I had some curtains made and would like to hang them on a track with a cord at both ends. Does anyone know if I need one track or two and then join them in the middle? What would you recommend? Thanks

Help! Garden office company wanted
Scrummymummy replied to janejones77's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi there, We had an office built in the garden back in 2012 and used a company called Gembuild - www.gembuild.co.uk They were really good, professional and we were really pleased with the result. The office/shed was built over a weekend and assembled in the garden with the materials being brought through the house. They have a range of designs and materials. Ours is in Cedar. I have attached a photo. We have a double sofa bed in there and use it also as an extra room when guest stay as well as an office. -

What was the furthest distance for DVIS and Dulwich Hamlet?
Scrummymummy replied to Sol's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hiya, anyone know furthest distance this year for DVIS and Hamlets including waiting list places? Thanks! -
To the driver in the dark blue saloon car who just angrily hooted me for slowing down turning left into Heber Road off Lordship Lane. The reason I slowed right down and stopped was because a child was standing in the middle of the road, had I been driving at the speed you were going behind me, I would have hit the boy. Slow down and think before you hoot...

Hi all, Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, but does anyone know what is going to become of the community centre on Lordship lane between The old police station and Sainsburys local (Red window frames)? I have heard it's closing. Is it being knocked down? I can think of many other uses which would benefit the community in the existing building. A new nursery for starters. Thanks

sorry... yawn.. does anyone know dvis catchment?
Scrummymummy replied to R&A's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We're 730m away and were number 3 on the waiting list and got in for 2012 intake. The letter we received said furthest distance first round was 630m. We are other side of LL so you should be fine! -
School advice : location vs results?
Scrummymummy replied to VjB's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We has the same dilemma last year. We spent a week debating it. We were 3rd on waiting list for DVIS and got a call in July last year saying we had a place. We were all set to go to Heber, but switched. Really happy with the school and walk along Townley Road isn't too bad. Daughter scooters just about everywhere anyway. We'll take our chance with The Hamlets. We are very close to Heber (150m) so we might get back in if she doesn't get in The Hamlets. It was a tough choice though. Good Luck.
