  1. In my house, all the brickwork is crumbling away.. in order to screw anything substantial to the wall, I have to use enormous 10cm screws and plugs!! An alternative idea, if the plaster is sound (and you never want to remove the hooks) is a "no more nails" type adhesive.
  2. Wine rack... shelving for cook books.. maybe just a large plant? I'm assuming you don't want the range cooker in the chimney breast (with extraction built into the chimney opening)? Even though it's a party wall, it still should be possible to remove the chimney breast. If your neighbours still use their fireplace, you might need some steelwork to support the chimney stack. (but understand you might not want the hassle, or want to keep it as a "feature").

I've had two houses with en-suite loft conversions, and a combi boiler has been fine. It does depend on your incoming water pressure of course, but I'd say it's normally only necessary if you want a particularly powerful shower.

Not surprising. But I mean under normal conditions. It is a very steep hill!! But it's not much use if you need to change onto another bus. I've also experienced buses mysteriously "falling off the radar" (perhaps a "this bus is now terminating at Camberwell Green" type scenario.. always a treat for all involved..)
  11. I wonder if the gradient of Underhill Rd might cause issues for a fully loaded double decker?

Given how expensive cars and maintenance are, nobody wants their car damaged or abused by bad drivers. Lift sharing is of course a different kettle of fish, used to do it all the time when I worked outside of London. It saves money, and nice to have a bit of company.
  13. Council tips (sorry, recycling centres) have been fussy about vans for as long as I can remember.
  14. TheCat Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'm happy to pay a few extra quid for someone that can improvise if > traffic/raodworks etc.... Not sure about that. The Waze app is much more useful for avoiding traffic jams and roadworks. Also, "the knowledge" seems to run out as soon as you get south of the river, and have to give the driver directions. Uber is an excellent service. Yes the drivers get paid peanuts, but I tip when not on "surge" fares. As for renting out my car... never going to happen. I'm not ultra-protective of my car, but at the same time I don't want a stranger thrashing around in it all day. But I was wondering if perhaps buying a second hand car specifically for this purpose could be a bit of a money spinner? (similar to the direction Air BnB has taken)
  15. Yeah, maybe not antisemetic per se, but almost certainly deliberately inflammatory (to quote robbin above). He must have known some would feel offended.. basically, a bloody stupid thing to say.
  16. I recently noticed these in our office vending machine: I've never had them before. Are they reasonably edible? It is the cheapest item in there (by quite some margin), but nevertheless, I do not want to waste fifty hard-earned pence on something revolting.
  17. If the roads are quiet, then they'll probably be building up quite a bit of speed.. so perhaps it's just as well they're warning people! I think we have to trust their judgement.

  19. It's a huge mistake IMO. I'm not sure who would want to watch him, anyway. Yes he was very good, but Froch 1 was his only win against top level opposition. He's been out of the ring for four years.. older, slower, less stamina. He wouldn't be competitive against James Degale or Badou Jack.
  20. The house behind us is being renovated (actually practically rebuilt). The builder's preferred method of waste disposal? Two huge fires in the garden. Horrible...

  23. Sorry Alan, I assumed my sarcasm would have been obvious. Perhaps not. It was meant as a gentle ribbing in the direction of "keano". But for the avoidance of doubt, I do not seriously consider a toasted sandwich to be "poncey". Food in pubs - definitely not new. I remember going for Sunday roasts in pubs when I was a kid in the 80s. Of course it's more common now though, but don't really see why it bothers people. If you don't like it, don't order it. (Unless of course the place has been pretty much taken over by formal seating, but in that case it's not a pub, it's a restaurant, e.g. The Palmerston).
  24. Alan Medic Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Now that sounds like a pub. Can they be toasted? No. Toasted sandwiches are for poncey metrosexual lightweights. Any such enquiries will result in a swift punch in the face.
