Thanks to the kind parents/kids in Peckham Rye playground
Jeremy replied to Jeremy's topic in The Lounge
Hey. Thanks for the kind words. Yeah I am indeed in touch with a couple of old regulars (one of which is indeed slightly fishy), they know about the closure... Mark has been an absolute legend over the years... but nothing lasts forever. A bientot... -
I am just jumping back onto the EDF - after god knows how long - to say thanks to the kind parents and also the thoughtful children in Peckham Rye playground on Saturday. My daughter fell off a rope and unceremoniously face-planted. Thanks to the woman who called the ambulance, the dad who kept her talking, the various people who helped to give us space, and the kids who fetched ice and water. (The ambulance took her into A&E.. her nose is broken but only minor and she'll be fine)

Prime Minister moved to Intensive Care - non political

Who are these people? "????"? "StraferJack"? -
The forum has become a farce... I understand that whenever a new business opens, the first thing their neighbours usually say to them is "don't even bother looking at the forum". It's a shame because it used to be a valuable forum. Now it's just a joke, with the same old faces spouting illogical nonsense, that you can't even argue with because THEY JUST MAKE NO BLOODY SENSE AT ALL...

I don't know why you have to be so defensive, Fox. I don't think anyone is slagging off Memsaab or anywhere else, just questioning the validity of your comparison. Most of us love a curry, but we also understand why the food is pretty cheap.

I honestly, genuinely do not understand your point Louisa. Yes there are plenty people who can't afford a ?10 lunch, I'm well aware of that. There are also people who can't afford to shop in your precious Ayres. There are people who can't afford kebabs, curries, and pints in the pub. There are people who can't afford (in more ways than one) to sit out in the garden drinking wine. Is there an actual crux to your argument, because to me it just sounds like resentment towards any sort of change. It's not as if it's replacing a cheaper place. Oh and I do not "have it in" for any local Indian restaurant, I like them but it's unhealthy food which is an occasional treat.

Yeah, a few people here getting confused between Canada Water and Canary Wharf.. There was never a direct link to Canary Wharf. Overground has always been PR, QRP, Surrey Quays, Canada Water, Rotherhite, etc. So you need to change at Canada Water, and it can get very busy. But still a better bet than London Bridge (the trains are screwed yet again) Have you considered cycling? (ducks, covers head...)

Anyone else hear loud 'bomb-dropping' sound at night?
Jeremy replied to Ronnijade's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've often heard that falling pitch, "dive-bombing" sound very early in the morning. I'm not often disturbed by planes, but in the warmer weather with the windows open, it's pretty noticeable. As Ruskin said, a little unnerving at first! If the noise is a plane lowering the flaps... is it the sound of the motor? Some aeroacoustic phenomenon? Is the falling pitch due to the Doppler effect? -
I love curry too - especially a tandoori mixed grill - but let's be honest about what it is. Unhealthy food made with very poor quality meat. It's not what I want to eat every day (well it sort of is, but I don't). Surely it's good to have a bit of choice. A quiche and salad makes for a good light(ish) lunch option, and ?8.75 is not a ridiculous price if it's freshly made.

Norrebro is alright. Beers at Mikkeller & Friends, dinner at Manfreds, cocktails at Gilt. The main city centre can feel touristy, but the area round st peders straede and studiestraede have a nice feel, and are good for eating and drinking. I think Vesterbro is supposed to be the place to head to these days, but we didn't get to see much of it. Christiania is worth a quick look if you don't mind hippies.

It's not a boutique hotel, it's an Innkeeper's Lodge... i.e. cheap and cheerful chain, one step up from Travelodge.

Especially if you have to drop off or pick up kids. (luckily for me it only makes around 10 mins difference to get the overground, but not everyone is as fortunate!)

People say that Harry is the "normal" one, and "grounded", etc. But the things he's said show how out of touch he really is with regular people. None of them want to be king? They're doing it for the greater good of the people? What heroes for bearing such a burden! How about showing some gratitude for leading such a privileged existence?

This one never gets old! Always fascinating. But serious question (I may regret this), why are you indicating that the Church geographical structure is more relevant than the Royal Mail? And presenting this as fact rather than opinion? Both organisations will eventually die out of course, but at least the Royal Mail is still vaguely relevant to most of us.

Is The Great Exhibition getting louder or what?

If a pub charged over ?5 for bloody Heineken I'd walk out! -
Ever since I've lived round here (15 years), every time a new housing development has been built, I've been shocked at the prices. I guess developers always try it on, and try to max out the "luxury" angle in the advertising, etc. But they all sell. Sometimes they might take a couple of months, but they sell. The only one I can remember being a complete disaster was those 4 duplex flats on Underhill Road.

Chicken breast certainly has, shall we say a "delicate" flavour compared with other meats...

Fox... most restaurants shut between lunch and dinner (apart from pubs and chain type places). Try finding somewhere decent for an early dinner at 5pm, it's not easy. Anyway, I think it looks very nice and will hopefully be able to give it a go at some point.

Could you recommend a good album (or song) as a starting point? I like The Replacements a lot (also mentioned in that article), but I discovered them via my interest in Bob Mould and Husker Du rather than via REM...

There was a tapas restaurant along that stretch of LL, years ago. Can't be 100% sure if it was the Swadesh site... but it might be. Closed down around 2004-2005, I would guess.

dbboy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Fish and chips on a Monday, never a good idea, > think how long they've had the fish, unless it was frozen? If you're eating cod, it's probably from Scandinavia/Iceland and frozen at sea. I imagine most chippies don't use any fresh fish at all unless they're fairly upmarket ones, or in fishing towns.

I like pubs to be family friendly during the day. But that doesn't mean they have to cater specifically for kids. We don't need toys, colouring pads, or play areas. Just a clean environment, welcoming staff and preferably a kitchen that will do a small portion of something if asked. And other customers should not be expected to put up with children having tantrums or running around!

To the man that asked my 6 year old to cycle on the road

intexasatthe moment Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Many people have some infirmity ( mobility ,sight > ,hearing ) that makes sharing a pavement with a > cyclist at the least a major source of anxiety and > at worst a danger . It's unfortunate, but to be blunt I'm not sure it's an adequate reason to effectively stop young children cycling. As jimbo - and others - have said, the key is to teach children on bikes and scooters to stop for pedestrians.
