  1. At my work we had a secondee once who admitted to having a pet chinchilla - Andean rodent which has the densest fur of any animal in the world. They live about 15 years - could be as long as 20. Fascinating creatures by all accounts though I don't know how you would get hold of one!
  2. My workplace is signed up with this agency and they can send someone on very short notice: http://www.tinies.com/childcare-agencies/nanny-agency-south-east-london/?pc=se22&t=1 Can be pricey but not as much as missing a day's work.... good luck, however it works out. x
  3. Agreed CLE - the interchange aspect is important! OKR doesn't even connect with S. Bermondsey.
  4. I contacted this organisation http://www.optimalliving.co.uk/public_html/ and they were very helpful. Perhaps give them a call and if they can't help they may be able to refer you on.
  5. Mine are a little younger, but have started to fight now and then. I recently read 'Siblings Without Rivalry' by Adele Faber & Elaine Mazlish - it was pretty good (if you don't mind the US style of writing) and gave plenty of useful suggestions for how to defuse things....
  6. Tricky times! We're all in the same boat, pretty much, on here. I find it a struggle too - and though I've recommended it before - sometimes some new ideas can really help, so I will do so again: http://www.ahaparenting.com/ What I like about it is how often it helps me to see it from the 3-year-old's point of view. It may not make sense to us, but it does to them...
  7. We always use Rye Cars - excellent service.
  8. My little ones are a bit younger than this but I've found this website: http://www.ahaparenting.com/ an amazing and very useful resource. Usually these things pass... though at the time it is not much comfort to think that...
  9. No personal experience with dummies (though definitely sleep issues!) but just wanted to link you to http://www.nhs.uk/news/2012/09September/Pages/Controlled-crying-safe-for-babies.aspx because 4 months may be a little early for cry it out - research mentioned in the link has only looked at this from 7 months. Don't recall exactly but I understand in the first 6 months the baby's cortisol levels are still being set - I read about this research in Sue Gerhardt's book (Why love matters). Good luck with all of it! ISIS online is also useful. Link: https://www.isisonline.org.uk/about/
  10. We also used Fleet Street clinic. Very good.
  11. Apart from people who have businesses I can't understand why anyone in ED would own a car anyway OP. Really there should be plenty of parking spaces for this guy's vans. It's zone two for crying out loud not some rural backwater like DV where you have to drive everywhere.
  12. Though to be fair to the PP who was generally ignored by the parents who previously posted on here, the school's website does now mention an 'interim headteacher' which suggests that the one that was there in the beginning has indeed moved on. So someone must have known. Bit unusual for no one to respond I thought as there could have been any number of reasons for the change.
  13. The annoying thing about this junction is that the green man doesn't appear until the traffic lights have been red for ages - so when on my own I tend to start crossing as soon as the traffic stops. Not with my children though obviously - so it's always a bit stressful trying to get them across before it goes red again.
  14. Am not aware of one but I know Lambeth is slightly different in that ALL issues with breastfeeding are dealt with in the Milk Spots rather than by community midwives, so perhaps they have funding for social media presence? La Leche League South East London is more Southwark/Lewisham based and they have a Facebook and web page. Is it info about the caf?s or online help that you need? Or anything else? Perhaps someone on this forum knows?
  15. Lordship Lane is very useful though if you need an estate agent. Plenty of choice ;-)
  16. Heard one this morning at 4.30 but I only seem to notice them when I'm awake anyway. Seems to have been going on for a couple of years now...
  17. I'm just amazed how you all got a place there - my 'baby' (now two years old) has been on their waiting list since birth and they still phone me every few months to say they are still not able to offer a place...
  18. Excellent - thanks to all for passing on your knowledge!
  19. Does anyone know of a shop in the neighbourhood that sells honey produced locally (not necessarily ED but London/South-East)? Someone suggested to me that eating it may help my little one who may have hay fever (lots of maybes there, clearly) and as it can't hurt I thought I might give it a try!
  20. For what it's worth, I used the Babyjogger City Mini from birth, and have been so happy with it I just upgraded to a new model (the GT) for number 2. When I get round to it, I really must put the old one up for sale... It's a very useful pram, and good value for money!
  21. Hello all, and especially Jess! Congrats and can't wait to meet your little one - all three of us will be there on Saturday. Looking forward to meeting more of you; Cx
  22. Thanks again - sounds promising! And actually having done a bit more thorough research of the locations, looks like the Clapham group is quite a bit further out (Tooting / Balham area) whereas Catford group is close to Honour Oak so probably a bit more convenient... Sorry - will do my homework next time before hassling all you good people on here!
  23. Thanks! That's very helpful. Don't suppose it much matters which one I join, especially if (as 150+ views and 1 reply suggest) no one local is going to either. Given the demographic here, I suppose the fact that there isn't actually an ED branch is probably quite telling. But at any rate neither Clapham nor Catford is exactly miles and miles away either... I can always just toss a coin ;-)
  24. Am thinking of joining LLL - I gather there isn't an ED branch, but there seems to be one in Clapham and one in Catford, not sure about other nearby locations. Is anyone here a member, or happens to know people from ED / Camberwell / Peckham / Nunhead who are, and which one is more usual / recommended?
