  1. I think all the points about security here are valid, both securing your home as much as possible and the fact that no matter how secure; it will never be 100%; if someone wants to get in, they will. What I currently feel guilty about is being a member (loose use of the word) of my community but not actively participating or contributing at all. It's even worse that is has taken something bad to happen to me to think about caring, but what can I do; I have two choices, continue to do nothing, or change a wee bit and at least be a conduit/instigator for more awareness/closeness in my immediate area. I am talking specifically about what has happened of course, but it doesn't just have to be about that per se. I guess the theory (security beefing up taken for granted) goes that if we all know each other a little more, look out for each other a little more, manage to disturb a few of these events in our area as a result, then perpetrators may think twice (is that wishful?). And make some more friends! :)
  2. Hi Singalto, all, Sleuthing got me nowhere.. I would be interested in coming along, but the events of last week have exhausted but thank you for the invite. I am definitely interested in starting something for Landells area though and am going to find out how to do this and will probably 'leaflet' my road. My wife actually said a few months back that she had spotted people seemingly 'casing' our road..I apologise (publicly!) for dismissing you, you were, as always, right. So if that's a lesson for us, let's just be more aware, especially given the season. We should even perhaps organise a Christmas drink...get to know you kind of thing...I've been here nearly 10 years and the number of neighbours that I know is a sad reflection of that length of time. We had a call from the Police yesterday to confirm what you said earlier; don't quote me on this but apparently 3 men have been arrested and a number of crimes have been linked to them; I don't want to say too much as I don't actually know much, but it's a start! As well as that, there is apparently a reasonable quantity of property recovered, I don't want to raise hopes (ours especially) but it has to belong to someone...
  3. Hi all, I'm glad someone has been caught and I hope if it's not our property recovered, that someone else's misery has been diminished. I noticed that down my road, there's lots of Neighbourhood Watch stickers in the windows, but I am completely ignorant of the actual process. Is this something that we as residents actively have to engage in? I know I'm acting after the horse has bolted, but I would be happy to initiate something, whatever it is that needs to be done. Knee jerk reaction perhaps; but I've fallen just a little bit out of love with an area that I have lived in for nearly 10 years.
  4. Sorry to hear about other people being 'hit'....and thank you again for all the support etc. We had a Community PC round last night as part of the post event support and she mentioned that this area is now a hot spot and that there is money for CCTV; quite when and where I don't know, but that can only be good news for the future. Sleuthing was on hold last night, I was too exhausted, but it reprises today...
  5. Thanks Ruskin, and yes, your guess is correct; I've seen it written by others in this abbreviated format and being a sheep with no mind of my own, I had to copy. Thanks for your words though.
  6. Thank you all for your messages, both here and PMs, it's some comfort to know that people care. :) I'm still raging and have engaged super-sleuth mode, however futile that may be; I visited a few houses on CPR yesterday evening, including the houses directly behind ours, one of which also experienced an 'attempted' break in at the same time - sorry guys for scaring you (I think they thought it was the culprits coming back for seconds) - of course the ONLY alleway on CPR that doesn't have the high 10ft (ish) boarding above the gates would be the ones behind our house! (and please don't think that I'm apportioning blame here, I'm not, just indulging myself in sickening irony) Another irony, having done the above and walking home, who did I see on Landells Road - a Bobby walking the beat - ha! Sainsbury's have CCTV - sadly nothing, the Plough Cafe has CCTV which I'm going to check out later, there's a construction depot on Goodrich that has CCTV I think....so even though it's unlikely...still going to try. I'm hoping to find people/businesses on all the roads off CPR (Landcroft, Thompson etc...all the way down if I have to) that have CCTV; if you do or know of someone, please get in touch.....Thanks again all.....there is a similar post on here about CPR, within that DST mentions that they interrupted a break in...and I'm certain it's the same people (timings/method)...if you do have CCTV....we're looking for 3 men between (guessing here) 3.30 and 4.30am on Monday morning...
  7. Thank you James; 'alleyway' may have been slightly misleading - the two houses/buildings directly behind us are not joined up/terraced, but I think the alleyway between them is in fact part of their garden(s); this is all assumption as I have not gone to look for myself but taken from what I remember - I will go and check later this evening.
  8. I'm sorry to post again, but should anyone have any information about events on the morning of the 25th Nov at 4am (ie. there was three of them), please would you kindly PM me and I can then pass on to the Police. I'm trying to stay calm and collected for my wife (who will probably read this), but inside I'm raging. Thanks all.
  9. I'm Sharchat's husband; we live mid terrace at the top end of Landells (so between Goodrich and Lord Lane); with garden backing onto gardens of CPR houses - which is how I think they gained access, via one of the alleyways.
  10. Hi all, please see the post a couple of posts down from this one (double burglary Landells Road), I'm the owner of one of the houses that was burgled on the 25th at 4am (reference to DST post)....the time fit is uncanny. Does anyone on the top stretch of CPR have CCTV, please?
