  1. Not sure wether to start new thread for this or not Made it to the forum wine-tasting tonight and enjoyed myself for many reasons a) great to put faces to names b) Kate did a great job and gave us some great wines, while still making it clear we were in "tip of the iceberg" territory I think the initial negative comments have long passed into history anyway so some of Kate's defensive words at the beginning seemed to belong in the past, but in actual fact made me glad to have someone SO passionate about what they do around the place. And I didn't realise she lived so far away - I moan about my commute for 8 hours a day and she spends every waking hour here And she swears well too.. not much, but WELL. There is a difference people
  2. Now now, you know you can play pool if you visit the Castle or the Plough - you just don't WANT to ;-)
  3. Wending our way down towards EDT last night to meet some of the forum regulars we passed G&B on the way and decided to stop for one in the new bar... I had been to the old bar a number of times but always a gamble that you might be the only people there, however last night we could see plenty of people already there and it looked like a great atmosphere Long story short, we never got to EDT. Stayed in G&B all night and had a terrific time. Great atmosphere, plenty of staff to cope with a fairly busy night and all in good form. And the Pieminster pies went down a treat as well. But I still wish I got to meet forumites - ah well, always Wednesday next week
  4. Thanks for the Bowie nod Incitatus, although really you would NOT want to get stuck next to me on a 10 hour plane journey on the subject I forgot to mention also one of my favourite Dulwich rock references (and also a favourite singer) Cathal Coughlan, a Cork man formerly of 80s ironistas Microdisney and 90s awesome Fatima Mansions, now solo singer based in East London & Paris I believe Anyway, back in the early 90s when the Fatima Mansions were front cover stars on the NME and the seemingly never ending Tory rule was still merrily strangling the country, Cathal lived in East Dulwich. The Fatima Mansions had a good line in T Shirts ("Raggle Taggle Nein Danke" and "Keep Music Evil" being 2 popular examples ) but one particularly memorable one was a picture of Peter Lilley & Michael Portillo involved in some salacious behaviour, with an equally profane slogan underneath, which Cathal gleefully wore whilst running around Maggie's then-back yard - the "Aryan Slimezone" of Dulwich Village park - an excerpt of tour diaries from the Guardian from that period can be found here: http://www.cathalcoughlan.com/cc.mv?view+109822204323255 Some may find the jaundiced take on the world a bit much - but he was VERY tired......
  5. 2 of the tracks on Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album (Hang on to Yourself & Moondage Daydream) were recorded by a group called Arnold Corns after Bowie agreed to write and produce for them.. this was before the Ziggy album btw Oh and the connection is Arnold Corns formed at Dulwich College
  6. Hi Steve I've been for several Sunday lunches there and have enjoyed everyone - it could be a bit busier sometimes and the last roast I had, although very nice, was a little underheated The whole place has a slightly more upmarket feel than the Gowlett (which I also love) and it does make for a very good walk across the Rye So all in all, recommended
