  1. DM "a litre of gine?"I thought you were from somewhere far away from Birmingham - where did that accent come from? ** starts singing "The Gine Giney" in Brummy accent ** ** wonders why bagpuss is single.. she rocks ** ** I blame her downstairs neighbour playing r'n'b till 5am **
  2. There was I thinking this was going to get lounged when I realised we are already there I'm off for a (very) cold bath... In another life DM... in another life..
  3. DM.. lovely DM The (very) attractive lady on my arm and I have been together for 10+ years - hence my "not that I would ever stray" line But she did point out that I was naming rather a lot of females in the area so I thought it politic to put a disclaimer at the end of my post -
  4. Ironically Mockney I had a friend DOWN from Hitchin yesterday - 3 of us ended up in 72 for far too many cold drinks and then a DVD/chat session until 4:30am Watched Pans Labyrinth this morning (aces) and as friend had to get back to hitchin, decided 63 bust to Kings X was best bet so had one in the garden of the Herne by the 63 bus stop. That turned out to be 4... 87% certain I'll be at quiz tomorrow - I too have a big work day on Monday but feel it is my civic duty to "be" "there" for my forum compadres.
  5. And no-one has mentioned the waitress in Tandoori Nights yet? Not that I would ever stray obviously. Plus Ms Tandoori Nights is about to get married But if I had to comment on anyone... I thought I was the only one who noticed the Budgens girl?? darn it...competition Inside 72 barmaids are great - but one in particular is especially lovely I thought the ladies at the last forum drinks in CPT were all very lovely Alice in the Bishop is too young for anyone here.. Capucine at Franklins (nee Liqourish) is adorable Lot's of ex ED barmaids have ended up at the Rye - but the tall dark-haired girl is my umm... fave I would like to point out at this stage that I'm an observant person GENERALLY and not a lech in any way
  6. I feel an etymology thread coming on
  7. heh heh snorky Tis a fantastic story and we do get the point... but it's only human to be interested in which pub and think "why didn't I go there more" I can't think of any pub I don't frequent but would want to keep open for its F&F
  8. Locall-ish Off main drag Lots of money spent on it Restaurants IN it middle class women with a petition? Not The Vale is it? No that's not up for sale...
  9. I can't agree with the notion that everywhere is becoming the same Even along Lordship Lane where a lot of the pubs have been refurbed - I wouldn't say any 2 are "the same" or even that similar. Of the pubs that Scott already runs I have been in 2 - The Castle in Camberwell and The Bishop in ED - and they are not the same as each other at all It is true that old school pubs are being replaced - and many people would say that they were "all the same". Not true of course but it depends on perspective. Old School or New School what I want in a pub is alcohol, prefereably something to eat, somewhere to read my paper and hopefully meet some good people. I can do that in The Bishop, or, giving up the food option, I can do that in the CPT or even the (Dulwich) Castle - a proper old school pub. Can't do it in the Plough or theold Foresters tho... I know from trying But once a pub becomes part of your life then any change is never easily accepted - but we have no choice but to move forward and give it a go
  10. Actually that DID happen to me on the bus on the way home this week - lip balm and moisturiser.... oh the looks I got
  11. maybe that's what's being formed at the top of Lordship Lane with all of the building work! Thn again.. maybe not eh? Would it get enough custom. Would it be ALLOWED by the landlords in the area?
  12. to be fair the ecological reason is pretty much up there as a reason - that and the issue of how many more cars can be squeezed into a finite amount of space Jeremy, are you saying you have NO choice but to use a car or that using any other transport is too much of a hassle. You might have no choice in which case fair play but for many people it often does boil down to "well I just don't LIKE buses/trains/length of time" in which case I would argue that ecology should be a bigger factor than they are currently allowing.
  13. I like the original idea Mark and some of the subsequent suggestions - it's not a community if it's one way traffic is it? Who knows, one of us might decide to open up a business around here and then we'd see how difficult it is so I'm all for supporting them. To be fair I always said if a decent butcher opened up I would only use local shops and I have pretty much managed that in the last 2 years (with maybe like 2 or 3 days excepted) but that still leaves loads of room for me to try places I haven't for ages
  14. oops.. I never get the sofa but did notice a gay couple on the sofa last time I was in - and they weren't leching at the indie boys so I sholdn't have jumped to conclusions
  15. James I think I know who you are now - You are partial to the sofa in 72 right?
  16. Where do you normally set up shop? I'm a Hitchin Hill person myself (and very grateful for it in 2005 when I saw everyone else that morning)
  17. Wasn't the Balham one already a departure from the Chess theme? Bishop takes Clarence? I always liked the Knights best (or are they Knaves? Or is that a Pawn magazine?)
  18. testing - tried to post some other comments on here and the screen never updates... (ignore this if it gets through)
  19. Hmm - a flag. What SAYS East Dulwich? ... maybe each tent in the group could have the logo of a local shop on it Or we could have a suggestion box at the fair on Goose Green. We are travelling down on the Wednesday by the way so not sure how many others are doing same or relying on space "being considerately left by others"
  20. * decided that it was in fact too early for a beer * * but not too early for a vodka with OJ * * wonders what kind of party Keef was at to get in this state *
  21. Thanks guys - already panciking about the details entered I put my name on the for first so everything addressed to me but the card details in girlfriends name and will that cause a problem at authorisation stage etc - almost certainly not... but you know... Louisana/Tillie - shame you guys aren't going now we could have had an EDF field So who else on here IS going?
  22. I'm not scared of Friday or Saturdays Scott - just getting too old! ;-) But I shall be heading over to check it out ..
  23. * throws open the door and runs excitedly into the room * * starts to gabble something about how he FINALLY managed to get tickets for the Pilton Pop Festival * * stops mid sentence as he realises the room is all but empty and those present neither care nor have the energy to do anything other than raise the icepacks from their brow and stare back * * unperturbed he hugs everyone anyway and tells them he loves them * * opens the fridge and wonders if 9:16am is too early for a beer *
  24. but wait what's this Im in and I'm done! woo hoo! (and yes Mike I'm definitely too old to woo hoo)
